Ileana planning to have silicon implants?
Ileana is the hottest heroine in Tollywood. There is virtually no one to come anywhere close to her in terms of glamour and charisma among the audience. Ileana is a long legged beauty with a perfect hour glass figure. She has everything, good looks, great screen presence and also a figure to die for. But there is one 'small' issue. Many of her fans have only one complaint against her. Her bosom is not as well rounded and full as people would love to.Many actors like Sushmitha Sen, Rakhi Sawant etc. suffered from the same problem. But they rectified it with silicon implants and got their breasts enlarged. It is an altogether different matter than Rakhi Sawant later got the transplants removed as they were causing a lot of pain.It is understood that Ileana is now seriously toying with the ide

The Most Famous Sneakers in Silicon Valley Meets Freecycle!
You may have seen them on t-shirts...or in the lobby of Yahoo! HQ in Sunnyvale. These, my friends, are the shoes off of David Filo's feet. While I will be conducting an interview with Filo sometime in the next few days, if luck is on my side these might be in my possession before the post is up. How, you ask? Today is a great event at Yahoo! called the "Free is Good Fair", where Yahoo! is working with Freecycle to have employees bring in stuff they don't want or need, and in turn they can take stuff they want from what has been brought in by others. Think of it as Craigslist without money...or "one man's junk is another man's treasure". I brought in several things, including sneakers and some snazzy soccer cleats--all in great shape. My guess is that you too have some sneakers y

Across the street, Costco is rationing its 50-pound bags of discounted rice - if you can get them at all. And some Asian restaurants are even reconsidering their longstanding policy of refilling rice bowls for free. The worldwide rice shortage has come to Silicon Valley."There is no rice," said Rita Patel of San Jose, a native of India who couldn't find any at Costco on Hostetter Road in northeast San Jose on Tuesday night. In a valley where nearly 30 percent of residents are of Asian descent, people are increasingly frustrated by the soaring cost of the staple of Asian cuisine. Economists blame the price increases on everything

The creativity here was born in Punk Fire, but steeled in years of wizened editing, production and touring. The band has a particularly ironic lyric tradition and an edgy sound. Different and displaced from both artist's early musical backgrounds - CS has carved out new and often intelligent audiences. The Mick Jones we hear on these records is far more Big Audio Dynamite and BAD II than the man we knew with the Clash. Silicon Knights Scoffs at Epic's Legal Motion
In the legal game of ping pong that is the suit between Silicon Knights and Epic Games, the last volley was a counterclaim and a motion to dismiss from Epic. Epic's paperwork alleged that Silicon Knights'accusations were "lacking in factual or legal merit." SK's original claim against Epic basically said that Epic willfully "sabotaged" games using Unreal Engine 3, using money it got from selling the license to fund development of Gears of War. Epic argued that sabotaging its own licensees would end up costing the company money in the long run, and therefore made no sense. Silicon Knights scoffed at that argument, saying: Epic's assertion that it has 'a vested interest' in Silicon Knights' success and continued use of the Engine is far-fetched, at best. The profits Epic assured for itself by having Gears of War as the marquee title for the Xbox 360 dwarf any gain Epic would receive from Silicon Knights purchasing a subsequent licenses for the Engine. It's only going to get ug

      Silicon Chips vs. Silicon Tits
Inspired by a true story of sexual harassment way yonder in California but also my current musings on the web 2.0 phenomenon, which are both favorable and unfavorable. Most people barely have the emotional skill sets to have real relationships in meatspace; life online only complicates matters. It's a catch-22: the internet brings people together, but also has the potential to kill intimacy.I still feel it's a tool, a means to an end, as easily manipulated by the end user as a good white lie and a poker face in conversation. Intuition is difficult to muster without flesh and bone and a voice to gauge. I do spend much time online because of my writing and art, but I also set boundaries in order to harvest what's best for me from that enormous net I've thrown into the sea. This phenomenon is particularly interesting for my generation because I didn't grow up on web 2.0, but I'm still young enough to be growing up on whatever new webs we are currently weaving (3.0? 4.0? 5.0? It’s time to get real about the potential of municipal broadband and the ways in which cities, counties and other entities can go about implementing successful deployments. This means setting clear goals, creating achievable business plans and learning from the many municipalities that have built networks that are delivering measurable results for their employees and residents. Silicon Knights To Epic: Our Claim Is Bigger Than Your Claim
A few weeks back, Silicon Knights sued Epic over its Unreal Engine 3 licensing agreement. In the suit SK alleged that Epic did not deliver workable game code when it was promised, effectively sabotaging the development of Too Human. SK is seeking a clean break from its agreement with Epic as well as damages to compensate for the time and expense of building its own game engine. According to GameDaily BIZ, Epic has filed a counterclaim stating that it has done nothing wrong and that SK is in fact trying to steal Epic’s engine technology to build its own: This lawsuit is a cynical effort by SK to unlawfully enrich itself at the expense of Epic Games… After having exploited Epic’s intellectual property to its advantage, SK now seeks to renege on its payment obligations… Epic is seeking injunctive relief, compensatory damages “in excess of $650,000” and the destruction of infringing goods. GameDaily BIZ spoke to SK’s attorney Chris Holland who commented: We don’t think E

The Aussies answer to Silicon Valley
The good part is that while Europe is working hard in the web 2.0 space, the Aussies have taken the concept and have developed an incubator service much like the Americans have with Angel and VC funding of companies. The LLC in place, Internet Property development Group, has been funding groups and sites, with their first release this month. On that news we were really excited about it because the USA, Asia and Europe are working very hard on web 2.0, and coming up with some great stuff. In reading the PR flash below, we thought it would be way too cool. New Web 2.0 Internet Incubator, Internet Property Development Group LLC (IPDG), launches in Silicon Valley with backing from Australian listed company Photon LTD (ASX:PGA), with goal of launching new web 2.0 consumer innovations from around the world in to the US market. IPDG’s first product http://www.Wookah.com will launch in the USA on 1st of August at the Always On conference at Stanford University showcasing the new navig

Prius No. 1 in Silicon Valley
Toyota's Prius hybrid has become the bestselling car in Silicon Valley. That must be because of the high concentration of smart people living and working there. They are probably more aware of the dire consequences of global warming. At 94,503 sales, the Prius represents just 1 percent of U.S. car and truck sales so far this year. In Santa Clara County, Prius registrations represent 5.3 percent of the market. The best selling car in Sweden (where I come from) is Volvo V70. It emits more than twice as much CO2 than a hybrid.

The Curious Life of the Silicon
The silicon is a strange thing. No i am not talking about the silicon being pumped in someones tities, i am talking about the silicon in our machines. It’s correct name is silica, but everyone is refering to it with silicon. It is a strange animal, it has rules to abide to. It grows works. But not allways. Man how happy was i when i got my hands on my firs celleron. It worked at 400Mhz and it was a pure beast. Man how much the landscape changed since then … The CPUs had grownup, became faster, easier on the power usage, can be updated, and caught bugs. I never thought about cpu’s in this way … bugs, that should stay in the software land not hardware. And now what provoked all this. Intel Core 2 A short writeup from Teo De Raat from *BSD teams. Lots of darkness creeps in this thread. I start to wonder with so many shits in the silicon, what CPU to purchase for my next machine. Intel or AMD. Maybe not … Maybe MIPS or RISK, maybe even CELL based. Let alone

First silicon plant in Spain for solar panels
Siliken, a dynamic Spanish manufacturer of solar panels, has taken a step that will guarantee the supply of the essential raw material for their ambitious expansion plans. They are currently building what will be Spain´s first silicon plant, thus getting ahead of another Spanish manufacturer with similar plans, Isofoton. The latter partnered with the utility Endesa for the construction of a polysilicon plant in the Southern province of Cadiz (Andalusia) that is scheduled to be operational by 2009. Siliken is a young company that has been tripling its turnover each year since its inception seven years ago. Their dizzying growth has led to the need for this plant that will have a price tag of more than $135 million dollars and an initial output of 1,500 tonnes per year. One of the advantages favoring their expansion is the fact that they design and build their own machinery as well. Carlos Navarro, their CEO, boasts that they can have a new line in operation in two months after a de

Being a bit of a cinephile (please look at the Wiktionary definition before calling the cops on me) I eventually came across this article in the New York Times: Comedy Business Turns to the Web. It turns out that Will Ferrell, he of Mugatu and Ron Burgundy fame, has recently been thinking along the same lines as Damian. Two months ago he invited a small production crew and a camcorder to the guest-cottage in his Los Angeles home. Included in this crew were Ferrell's production partner, Adam McKay, and McKay's 2-year-old daughter, Pearl. 45 minutes later they had sufficient footage to complete a sketch of Ferrell's down and out tenant being harassed by his foul-mouthed, beer guzzling landlord. The actor playing the landlord - Pearl. The next step? Post it on Ferrell and McKay's relatively new video site, Funny Or Die.com. The

Silicon Valley Could Use A Downturn Right About Now
Interesting. via TechCrunch - Silicon Valley Could Use A Downturn Right About Now"When I look back at the pictures from those early events, I remember good times, and no one was talking about twenty million dollar venture rounds or selling out for a cool $1.65 billion. Companies like Meebo and Sphere literally launched in my living room in front of a couple of hundred genuinely interested people.Somewhere in there the money started rolling in. Our first dime of revenue was December 2005. A few months later a lot of companies were raising $3 million A rounds, then $7 million A rounds after the YouTube acquisition. Companies started to hire marketing managers and PR firms, and spending tens of thousands of dollars on launch parties. Now, a year after the madness started, it’s even worse. Companies have to actively dodge venture capitalists to avoid raising a big round of financing.Times are good, money is flowing, and Silicon Valley sucks.I don’t know what it is, but the same thing h

      Spintronics Breaks the Silicon Barrier
A breakthrough in this promising field of nanoelectronics could revolutionize the design of digital devicesA new generation of electronics that are vastly smaller, faster, and more power-efficient came closer to fruition this month thanks to the work of a team of U.S. scientists. As described in this month's academic journal Nature (subscription required), professors Ian Appelbaum and Biqin Huang of the University of Delaware and Douwe Monsma of Massachusetts-based Cambridge NanoTech have succeeded in creating a working spintronic device based on conventional silicon.Spintronics is a promising approach to creating electronic devices that store information based on the spin of electrons, rather than the more cumbersome conventional method of relying on the electron's charge. An electron's spin refers to its directional rotation. Unlike a spinning tire or a toy top, an electron's spin is a quantum property, and thus a constant value that does not change. Scientists are working to harn

Silicon.com: IT glitches and the user DIY approach
Expanding (or is that expounding) on a recent Silicon.com article. IT is constantly evolving and the userbase evolves with it. Most people are mini IT managers in their own homes now, managing infrastructure and services for the kids or spouses (or friends) - don't we all know a 'computer expert' in the family? Our industry (the IT one) has to recognise this evolution which is why I'm all for the DIY approach to the majority of user problems. The caveat is where to draw the line as there is always a grey area - because a little knowledge can be dangerous too.Often I'll get phoned up with a problem and the result is a simple reboot, either of a broadband router, a laptop, PC, Printer or some other device. Problems that need reboots occur and will likely always occur as it's very difficult to diagnose or fix some problems until they arise. I frequently tell users that the first things they must check is a) That everything is plugged in that is supposed to be plugged in b) That eve
