Vista has gadgets similar to what is found on the Mac and in Yahoo Widgets (formerly Konfabulator). For some reason, they have not been well received which (again) is a bit puzzling to me since they work quite well and are easy to author. The quality of a gadgets themselves is not always up to par with their Mac and Yahoo counterparts but that's not a limitation of the platform.
