      Sick Day
I’m taking a sick day. For real, this is misery, people. (in interest of full disclosure, I am the biggest baby when I’m sick) Thankfully, I don’t get sick often, which I think makes the ratio of wimpy-ness to time infirmed correlate perfectly, but maybe I’m just justifying. If you’d like Dr. Google’s official diagnosis it’s [...]

      Sick day
When I was 9, I relished sick days. I always liked going to school (except for those middle school years -- yikes!), but there was something almost taboo about staying home on a day when you were supposed to be doing something else. When you were sick, you got to watch school day television -- soap operas, good crap on PBS, and Card Sharks. AND, the coolest part (at least before Tivo and VCRs) was you got some inside knowledge on the day's episode of "The Young and the Restless." Yeah, baby.Well, my friends, my plague has continued another day. I want to frolick in the autumn breeze, but I am coughing up a lung and the sun told me to lay down. I hate being sick, and I hate having to stay home and bathe in my sickness. But, work tomorrow I must, so I decided to stay home today and have a proper sick day. This is my mug. Shitty picture. Good mug. I've had more tea today than I've had in years. If you are sick on the weekends, it totally sucks. It's a given fact. Not only are you dyi

      Sick Day Post
It's been a downright poop-tastic few days here. We're trying the diapers many of you recommended, and I can tell you that none of them can hold up to a massive stomach bug. At first I thought it was the result of too much fun (read about our weekend at Cirque du Mommy), but with the addition of a high fever this afternoon, I'm thinking it's more likely the result of being around other kids and her new found love of licking her hands. So instead of one coherent post, you get a post of me rambling about a few little things. Like my sick child, and my hope that she doesn't pass it on to Mira. I will say, though, that even when she's sick, she's still polite. As I handed her a sippy cup of Pedialyte while she was laying (lying?) on the couch, she looked up at me with half opened eyes and said, "Thank you, mommy." Awwww...***********For those of you with little ones, FlipFlop Mamma turned me on to this contest. You can win a Moby wrap from SuperMomz. I'm a big fan of baby carriers r

My Thoughts on a Sick Day...
As I stayed home from work today due to being sick, as I seem to be drinking everything in sight and battling a sudden fever and found myself sleeping all day.Anyhow, I caught most of the Orioles' game today and it's needless to say I was none too please with the result. Right now, I am wondering what is going on with this team and if it has any heart.Aside from the victories that we had over Cleveland on Friday and Saturday, the team has been nothing short of putrid.Steve Trachsel (who I had mixed reviews on when he was signed) has been our most consistent pitcher, and might be 2007's Kris Benson (the role of the hard luck loser).Well, the Orioles spent $42 million on their bullpen, but today was one of those days where it failed. I'm not going to slam the bullpen, as stuff happens and it got hit hard -- however, it's the rest of the team I am concerned about, from Sam Perlozzo, the starting and the offense. To be quite honest, someone needs to stand up, yell from the mountains an

      Sick Day
Please excuse Mommy from work today. She is sick. Well, Julia was sick first. It struck last night, out of the blue. One moment she was dancing happily with her little ballerina cow and the next she was throwing up. Isn’t it amazing how sickness strikes children without warning? I got sick one day at school in the 5th grade. It hit me suddenly in class, so I walked up to the teacher, Mr. Chapman, and asked if I could go to the nurse. He looked at me and said, “You’re not sick. You were just talking and laughing with your friends. Go back and sit down. School is almost over.” Then, I puked. On Mr. Chapman’s shoes. I told him I was sick. Anyway, Julia suddenly got sick. It was her first time vomiting and, therefore, my first experience in being the adult responsible for cleaning up vomit. Not just once, but for the next 8 hours. The 8 hours during which we normally sleep, but did not sleep. She puked. I cleaned. In between those events,

      Sick Day
The inevitable. After a few weeks of vacation with a mess of snotty neices and nephews, Adum, Penelope and I all have gotten sick as well. It's life's little payback for us taking vacation. After a long night with Penelope, we were both pretty bushed this morning so I gave her a questionable dose of Children's cough medicine and we both got a nice nap until noon this morning. But I always feel obligated to get her out of the house at least once a day so out we went, PJ oozing all over and me trudging light headed towards the park. There were a few other moms there who immediatly instructed their children not to "bother" Penelope. I'm usually on their side of the table but it was nice to have our run of the playground equipment while the other healthy children looked on with jealousy. It's amazing how much goo one baby can produce when sick. The other kids eventually left sadly so we did too. It's no fun having the run of the playground if there is nobody to get jealous of you.I tr

      Maya's Sick Day
Friday was Maya's "sick" day. She had a bad cough and just wanted to have the day off from pre-school so I stayed with her. She loved wearing her new pink robe and I just had to sketch her while she watched Dora.I used Sepia ink and a wash of Perm. Alz Crimson in my sketch book. When she noticed me doing it, I sketched this rose-water dripper and box. I find myself always sketching the kids from the back. I need to find a way to sketch them form the front without them getting self conscious and wanting to see what I have done so far. Have you ever tried photographing a kid with a digital camera? They know that as soon as you click the picture they can see it, so what do they do? come to see it even before you click the picture! :-D
