      Bugotak: Siberian Tales
Bugotak plays Siberian music in a traditional folk basis, but their musical references are so diverse to be classified by genre (let's call it Siberian Contemporary music). They even dare to cover rock classics, in their traditional Siberian instruments. The main idea of Bugotak's art is that only those traditions come alive, which develop itselves; stark traditions are subject to nobody. Therefore, the project declares itself to play in any style, keeping native Siberian spirit. Lovers of 'pure folk' should stay away, to avoid stagnation of native folk’s culture.Bugotak is an ethnic project found in 2004 in Novosibirsk, Russia, by Sayan Andriyanov, a multi-instrument player and throat singing performer.01. All About The Siberian Husky Dog
Dated back to earlier times, the Chukchi tribes from northeastern Asia were the first to breed Siberian Husky dogs. It was during 1909 when these sleigh dogs were brought to Alaska for the first time in history to compete in the All-Alaska Sweepstakes race, where they drew the attention of the Alaskan dog breeders for their great running abilities. The American Kennel Club (AKC) offered recognition to these dogs in 1930. Eight years after this recognition, the Siberian Club of America was instituted. Siberian Husky dogs are a gentle breed with pleasing temperament. The Chukchis raised their dogs with high admiration, considered them as an integral part of the family and inspired their children to play with the dogs. This probably facilitated the development of a warm, gentle, social and hu

      Good news on Siberian tigers
This is good news from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It's little steps like this that end up making a big difference in the end. Check it out.... In a world where many animals are under siege, the Amur tiger, popularly known in the West as the Siberian tiger offers an encouraging message: the population of the huge cat is showing signs of recovery. During the past 100 years, the Amur tiger population of the Russian Far East was decimated by forest destruction and poaching for tiger body parts for use in traditional Chinese medicine. By the 1940s the number surviving had dwindled to an estimated 50. Thanks in part to $611,131 in U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service grants that, combined with partner donations and in-kind contributions, push the total to more than $1 million, the big, disti

Seven Days on a Train: How to Keep Busy on the Trans-Siberian Railway
Many a traveler has the ambition of crossing Russia on the Trans-Siberian railway. After devouring Paul Theroux’s railway travelogues and then falling in love with a glossy hardcover version of a TV series called Red Express, I knew that the week-long trip from Vladivostok to Moscow was the ultimate journey for me. Photo © Yelavich.com Shortly before my trip it dawned on me: the equivalent of seven full days on a train, even if it is broken up into two or three segments as a result of stopovers, is a really, really long time. In fact, I ended up spending around 200 hours on the train. The good news is that I loved every one of those 12,000 minutes, and here’s how you can too. (more…)

      Siberian Iris, Hardy Elegance
Siberian irises are one of my favorite garden plants, and they hold a sentimental value as well. Growing up, we had an impressive stand of a deep purple variety that I believe was "Caesar's Brother" that old centurion of perennial gardens. For me, they were something out of the Japanese prints my father was partial to, and my mother mistakenly called them "Japanese iris", but I now know them by their proper name, Iris siberica. No self-respecting Japanese iris, Iris ensata, would have survived in the somewhat dry and partly shady garden near a garage and competing with tree roots. But the Siberian soldiered on and thrived through cold snow and frozen winters, droughty summers, and all the Midwest climate could throw at them.As is true of these sturdy and dependable plants, they grew in part shade, and never needed special care, although they were watered and fed along with the rest of that part of the garden. All the more amazing since they grew in the vicinity of the Black Walnut tre

      Siberian - With Me
On my desk, which is filled with stacks of music, some listened to, others neglected, this disc from Siberian keeps staring at me. I gave it a listen a while back and decided I would be writing about it, and soon. But for whatever reason, it got neglected. And this week I picked it back up and remembered why it caught my attention the first time around. These guys out of Seattle make some very big sounding pop/rock music on this album, and while most indie rock bands of their ilk tend to know thier place, Siberian seem to be ready for an arena tour. I say that because songs like “Belgian Beer and Catholic Girls” could be the type of song that made it’s way onto a setlist for a 90’s brit-pop act. It also brings to mind a bit of shoegaze and a touch of Interpol from time to time. Yes, it sounds big. At any rate, check the aformentioned tune from their upcoming release, With Me, and let me know what you think. The album will be out on October 23 from Son

Siberian Woman Give’s Birth To A 17.1lbs. Baby Girl
When you read this news the word ow! comes to mind but luckily for 43-year-old Tatyana Barabanova the baby was delivered by caesarean. All of Tatyanna’s children have all weighed over 11lbs. Nadia’s mum said that “We were all simply in shock, what did the father say? He couldn’t say a thing - he just stood there blinking. I ate everything; we don’t have the money for foods so I just ate potatoes, noodles and tomatoes,” New-born Nadia is even bigger than Mexican baby Super Tonio who caused a sensation in February when he came into the world weighing a massive 14.5lbs. According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest baby born to a healthy mother was a boy weighing 22lbs 8ozs, in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955. The a

      Siberian Huskies are Great Pets
My friend is, or rather was, a proud owner of 5 cute Siberian Huskies, all of which courtesy of his long time pet dog Siberian Husky “Russian.” I say “was”, because everyone loves them so much that all were either bought from him or given as gifts to friends. Despite its mean wolfish appearance, the Huskies are very lovable and love to please their master. And it is this vicious look of the dog that makes it all the more in demand as a pet among dog lovers. Because it belongs to the working breed of dog, the Huskies are very energetic and physical. They would enjoy a great deal of time running and exploring the grounds. Did you know that Huskies were originally designated as sled dogs in Alaska? However, they immediately got popular as pet dogs, as well as dogs for show competitions. It is not uncommon for many families to own a Siberian as a pet dog. My friend said most of his Huskies have blue eyes, which is actually the common eye color for this type of dogs. Another charac
