As Economy Weakens, Mexicans Seek Solace At Shrine
By Robert Campbell

After Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, we proceeded to Martyr's Shrine, a place built in 1969 dedicated to the fallen heroes who fought courageously in the War for the Republic of China. As soon as we alighted from the car, we saw these two military officers armed with bayoneted rifles standing...

Today I biked to a patriotic pilgrimage site that tops them all – Mount Rushmore. Called the “Shrine of Democracy,” the four faces carved into the side of a mountain in the Black Hills is almost religious, depending on how you look at it.
First, let me show a picture I took of the sky by the highway. South Dakota has the most amazing skies:
And now the monument. Here it is
In brief: Absolutely, utterly fantastic. In detail: This is, quite probably, my favourite episode Atlantis to date. It is, for me, Enterprise's 'Cogenitor', or SG-1's 'Abyss': the episode that rises above the average or mediocre content surrounding it, and elevates itself into not only a good episode, but simply one of the strongest.

I am taking part in a Matchbox Shrine Swap with UK Stampers Forum and thought it might be useful to do a step-by-step class on how I made it. This is just my interpretation but it may give anyone viewing the class some ideas and inspiration. The idea of Matchbox Shrines is certainly not new and they can symbolise anything at all, some are used as lucky charms and are carried in handbags and purses.

Amitabha Budda, in the central part of the shrine, is assisted by two bodhisattvas, Munsu (or Manjusri Bodhisattva) who represents Great Wisdom, and Bohyeon (or Samantabhadra Bodhisattva) who represents Universal Virtue. This shrine is made of torreya wood and is finished by applying fragrant jeondanhyang oil, which protects the shrine from harmful insects and decay. Also known to have been the material used for the carving of the first Buddha image in ancient India, jeondanhyang wood is more expensive than gold.Widely regarded as one of the masterpieces by Park Chan-soo, this exquisite piece i

Nang Nak is perhaps the most famous Thai ghost EVER. Her immortal, blood-soaked story has kept countless Thai children awake at night (and behaving well – if not, their mothers threatened Nang Nak’s ghost would come and eat their brains aliiiive~!!). While historical proof is hard to come by, the Thais still believe in Nang Nak, even until today. In fact, she has her own shrine in Sukhumvit (pics of the shrine are below this long-winded explanation) and is worshipped as a protector of military conscripts and bringer of good luck (especially winning lottery numbers). The legendary tragic story of Nang Nak has been retold many times in the Thai media (TV dramas, DVDs, comic books, you name it~!!), most famously in the 1999 movie titled “Nang Nak” directed by Nonzee Nimibutr (pictured

Welcome to Fantasia's Shrine! That's the place where I retreat every now and then to reflect upon my mental and spiritual journey. I will let you take a peek into what goes inside my mind as I attempt to unravel the world around me one thread at a time. It's taken me a long way to reach where I stand now. But God knows how long it will take me to reach where I want to land, or whether I shall ever make it to that destination during my lifetime. All I can do is try and keep trying, think and keep thinking, believe and keep believing. My inner peace stems from the thought that I am in continuous motion. My mind is never allowed to rest, it's true. Yet, it is in the midst of this mental toiling that I feel most alive. How could I put my mind to sleep when there are so many questions buzzing inside? My enigmatic existence in this universe makes me wonder about endless things. From finding answers to generating more questions, ideas keep playing their favorite game with my head. I then

桃太郎神社、犬山Japan has all sorts of quirky shrines: phallic shrines, fox shrines, even a shrine partially submerged in the sea.Another bizarre shrine to add to the list is the Momotaro Shrine in Inuyama. The Momotaro legend is popular with children and it's kids and their parents and grandparents who make up the majority of visitors to this rather shabby shrine. For those of you unfamiliar with the Momotaro fairy tale, there are a couple of versions.Momotaro is the "Peach Boy" ("momo" means peach) found inside a giant peach floating down the river by an old woman and is then adopted by her and her husband becoming their son sent from heaven. An earlier, racier version of the story has the old woman becoming rejuvenated back to being the sexy babe of her youth after eating part of a giant peach she finds floating in the river. Her husband is gobsmacked to discover this stunner when he returns home but he too, after eating part of the peach, is reinvigorated and the couple make
宮島/厳島神社Miyajima is a sacred island just off the coast of Hiroshima City and makes a great day trip from the city. The island is best known for Itsukushima Shrine and its massive torii gates that, depending upon the time of day, are partially under water. The shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the island is one of Japan's “three most scenic spots” (the other two being Matsushima, near Sendai; and Aminohashidate, which is on the Japan Sea in Kyoto Prefecture). The shrine was founded in the seventh century and then rebuilt in 1168—taking on the form that it still has—thanks to the generosity of warlord Taira no Kiyamori.Itsukushima Shrine is built on top of a dock, jutting into a bay. Though much closer to shore than the torii gate, the shrine itself is exposed to the elements; when the tide comes in waters lap at the giant poles supporting the shrine. The torii gate was also built in 1168 and is roughly 16 meters (50 feet) high. Gentlemen,
I just visited the Baseball Hall of Fame with my dad and brother. I snapped this shot of the Wade Boggs plaque when I was there!
All I could think of was an ice cold, delicious and nutritious Miller Lite (or 90 of them)!
This picture is so good that I am giving it a spot in the sidebar.

I can't find good words to describe my anger and sadness for the bombing of Al-Zobair's Shrine and Mosque in Iraq today. I feel more sad because I spoke about this before and now it happens again and it is not two clerics but it is Al-Zobair Believe it or not I don't care to know if it is considered a Sunni or Shiite Mosque because in the end it is a Mosque for God and as far as I still know we worship the same God , even the man was buried in that shrine was from the early Muslims , sorry for the Prophet Mohamed "PBUH" companions who can not be classified as Sunni or Shiite but as a Muslim Not like any Muslim by Talhah Ibn Al-Zobair whose shrine was bombed today in Basra was from the 10 companions who Prophet Mohamed "PBUH" said that they will go to heaven ,of course I don't need anyone to tell me that the radical Shiites don't like others in the list and thus this can be a Shiite act especially knowing what some of them may think regarding him but they are
The attack stoked fears of an upsurge in intra-Muslim violence. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government rushed to contain Shiite wrath against Sunnis, clamping a curfew on Baghdad and asking for U.S. troop reinforcements in Samarra, 95 kilometers (60 miles) north of here, and for a heightened U.S. military alert in the capital. But sketchy reports of sectarian strife began to come in: Police told of at least four Sunni mosques in Baghdad and south of here attacked by arsonists and bombers, and of a smaller Shiite shrine bombed north of here. 多度神社Tado Shrine, in Tado, a small town about 8km from Kuwana in Mie Prefecture dates from the 8th century. Tado Shrine is connected with the 1500 year-old legend of a white horse that acted as a messenger for the local people's prayers to the kami (god), who lives on Mount Tado.To this day a white horse is kept near the shrine and horses are a major part of Tado Shrine's big festival on 4th and 5th of May each year. Animal rightists should not despair, this is no Spanish donkey, the horse is only kept inside the small shrine for a few hours on special days and has a large open space all to himself for the rest of the time. There are exhibitions of horseback archery (yabusame), a procession involving retainers in Edo Period costume escorting a young boy made up with white face paint and red lipstick, and the festival's highlight, known as ageuma of horses ridden by latter-day "samurai" trying to scale a 3m high muddy cliff.
