Legendary investor Jim Rogers is shorting the US treasury market. As he explains in this interview a hyper inflationary global economic environment is being created by government fixes. This will turn the current US dollar rally into a rout.
More immediately the big rally in US stocks yesterday happened when the bond market was closed for [...]
TBR NewsApril 15, 2003Between August 26 and September 11, 2001, a group of speculators, identified by the American Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Israeli citizens, sold “short” a list of 38 stocks that could reasonably be expected to fall in value as a result of the pending attacks. These speculators operated out of the Toro...
FRE made the list of 799 financial companies that cannot be shorted. It's currently at .65 in pre-market, almost double where it closed at (.33). That's a gain of over $8,000 for me if it holds. The SEC ban that I mentioned last night in the post below, only includes 799 financial companies. Check out the link below to see if your company made it:SEC Short Ban List
Surprisingly enough, I do not see
The last time they did this, just a few months ago, it simply brought on a weak rally that fooled more dumb money into the market. I don't think there exists any other motive this time. Prices can still fall without short selling, in fact it could potentially fall even harder, like that of the Shanghai Index the past year (see chart for past 2 years). If short positions existed, at least there'd be
Shorting is a common technique on Wall Street as investors try to profit from both the rise and falls of a particular stock, but one thing I never really understood is why short in the first place.

Today's bounce likely has more upside but will ultimately present yet another good shorting opportunity. Here are a couple of those commodity charts from yesterday. Their longer term trends from these pullbacks are about to come into play, one way or another. For the most part, trading under these choppy market conditions can be frustrating. I will continue to wait, like Chuck Norris, for the pr

That title is just about the worst combo there is and yet I went full steam ahead, shorting 1,000 FPP five minutes after the market open into a spike I thought to be ill-fated. Nearly right away when I was down 20 cents on my position, I knew I’d screwed up. Despite my warning everyone [...]
I had borrowed 1000 shares of PDO this morning from TOS. Almost sold it at 6.50. Crapped myself when it plunged to 6.00 in seconds. Never had the guts to jump back on long or short.
I’m seeing a lot of comments/emails from people re-shorting these pump and dumps waaaay late in the game, just because they missed profiting from the initial dump. Here’s a tip—STOP!
Yes, these companies are all crap (okay, okay 99.9%, but this is the last time I’ll ever qualify that), but you gotta understand crap companies can [...]
January 24th, 2008 Review TIM $15,175, Up $120 on the Day, Short 1,000 COINW @ $3.75 Overnight Lots of crazy COIN-related trading in the afternoon, shorted 1,000 COINZ at $3.85 mid-day, right near the day low, thinking COIN would crater—eventually proven right, but not before a big spike—COIN
When the stock you sold yesterday surge today, you can’t help but ask “What if I just held”. Hindsight is easy—but there was no way of me knowing if POT would report solid earnings and that MOS and MON would continue to surge. MOS is now $15 above where I sold it and it hurts. Even though I had nearly double the shares in MELI, which is $5 above where I sold it, that doesn’t hurt as bad. But that’s trading, you either take calculated r
A few enquiries on 'shorting' have hit our desk because of the whole Northern Rock issue, so here is a little explanation as to how it works:
Basically if you are 'short' of a companies shares you are looking to profit from the share price going down. What you need to do is borrow shares from someone who holds them and them sell them in the market.
Lets say you think the price of Ferrari 360's
There are a few variations of terms associated with this concept so first let me throw out the common phrases and then explain what it actually is..."Short a stock" (Short is used as a verb)"Short position" (Short used an an adjective)"Short Selling" (Short used as an adjective)...are the three most common uses of the term "short" as it relates to investing. Okay great, but what the heck does it mean?!Shorting a stock means selling shares of a stock THAT YOU DO NOT OWN. You would only do this if you expected that stock TO DECREASE IN VALUE. Eventually you have to "cover your short position" by buying the stock later (hopefully at a lower price than what you sold it for). This is a backwards way of buying low and selling high in that you actually start out by selling high and then buying low. Confused yet? :) Keep reading...Let's use an example: Let's say that company ABC's shares are trading at $50.00 per share to
Here’s an interesting Bloomberg report I came across on “naked shorting,” a trading strategy that has been surrounding by controversy. It’s a bit long, but its pretty informational. Take a look:

I try to avoid shorting the market, but if you feel compelled to do so, I recommend QID and SDS. QID is an ETF that shorts the Nasdaq. It is the anti-QQQQ's with a kick in that it magnifies the movement in QQQQ by a factor of 2. So for example, a 1% down move in QQQQ implies a 2% gain in QID. Similarly SDS is QID's counterpart for the S&P 500. If you think the stock market is heading lower, and I don't argue that, I recommend you play these for the short term.-- Faisal LaljeeFull Disclosure: I do not own any shares of QQQQ, QID or SDS but my position might change anytime without notice.
In previous articles have looked at the potential for the British Pound from the sort side and it looks just about set to fall – lets take a look at the bearish argument and why it is a low risk high reward trading opportunity.
To look at this trade you will need a chart service with [...]
