A First Person Shooter (FPS) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_person_shooter) game can be a little bit addicting, but it's a nice timekiller. Many will know FPS's from Unreal Tournament (http://www.unrealtournament3.com/), Quake (http://www.quake4game.com/), Counter Strike (http://www.counter-strike.com/), Half Life 2 (http://half-life2.com/) etc. I created a list of the best free FPS-games that you can find on the net. Some of these games are out-dated, others are still in development, but all are fun to play. If there's any game missing from the list, please feel free to post them in the comments. Olympus' FE-Series of shooters detect smiles, not snarkOlympus is in a tizzy this morning with four new shooters from their FE-series of compact digital cameras. The 12 megapixel (1/1.72-inch CCD) FE-300 is the big pixel-huntin' dog of the bunch packing a TruePic III image processor, 17 scene modes, xD expansion, and 2.5-inch LCD in a 22.1-mm thick package. Next up is the 7.1 megapixel (1/2.5-inch CCD) FE-290 which lacks the face detection of the FE-300 but squeezes in a 3-inch LCD and 4x wide angle optical zoom lens. The FE-280 then, crams 8 megapixels into a 1/2.35-inch CCD and super slim 19.1-mm body. Ammusingly, it features a 'Smile Shot' mode which automatically tracks faces and then throws the shutter when your subject smiles, or grimaces presumably, when snuggled up with aunt vinegar. Are there really too many shooters on the Xbox 360? The games console is often stereotyped as a hardcore PC FPS gamer’s home without much else from other genres on offer.
Based on 139 Xbox 360 games, FPSsource found that not even a fourth of them are considered as First Person Shooters or Third Person Shooters, even added together. The study includes the majority of the Xbox 360 games that have been released or to be released until August, as for all other titles; Halo 3 included, were not added as they haven’t been released. Also, XBLA games were not factored in. The result was there are only 15 FPS titles and 8 TPS titles.
We love Lumix, and today Panasonic unveils three new Lumix shooters so we can burn more holes in our pockets. The Lumix DMC-FX33 and DMC-FX55 are 8MP cameras with 28mm wide-angle and 3.6x Leica zoom lenses, while the Lumix DMC-FZ18 offers the same stuff but with a whopping 18x optical zoom. The Lumix DMC-FX33 has a 2.5″ LCD display and sells for $299. The Lumix DMC-FX55 has a 3″ LCD and sells for $349. And the Lumix DMC-FZ18 will have a 2.5″ LCD when it’s released in September for $399.
