Everyday Shooter is THE BEST downloadable game I have played on a console. It takes the popular geometry wars formula and adds a chain system and puts it all to music. Playing the game really is like playing through a music album. Each level has a unique music track, mood, feel, and a new chain system to learn. Learning how to chain is crucial to beating the levels and progressing through the game. One of my favorite past times on the weekend is browsing through YouTube looking for video game reviews of classic arcade games. MrQuan83 has posted two new ones this weekend of two of my favorite classic arcade shmups - Raiden and Lightning Fighters. I've posted them below since I'm sure some of you will get a kick out of seeing the two games in action.The Raiden review is particularly interesting because the PCB that MrQuan83 is using to review the game happens to be the checkpoint version of Raiden. In most versions of Raiden, when you get shot, the game continues immediately at that point and allows you to pick up your floating power ups. In the checkpoint version of the game, the game has a "reset" of action that starts you over after a brief intermission screen. This prevents you from picking up any power ups that your exploding ship would've expelled.

In my opinion the graphics are not quite as good but that doesn't hinder the story or the game play, what does bother me tho it's more me than the game is the control system with the arrow keys, oh well by the time I'm done with the game I should have it down... hahahaha One thing I see that doesn't hinder the gameplay at all is all the "Clipping" of objects and the weapons and your characters arms when they sometimes go right through walls and other obstacles, I'm sure the developers can fix their collision detection without any problems... Playing games for money is nothing new, but a game called Kwari is hoping to shake up the tournament formula and make the competition more personal. Kwari is a free-to-download FPS in which players put their money where their skills are by agreeing on a "per hit" rate of one penny to one dollar. Every time you score a hit, that amount of cash is taken from your opponent's account and put in yours, with the reverse happening when you're hit yourself. Money earned from self-inflicted damage, like from a fall, gets put into communal jackpots, which are awarded on a regular basis. Players are matched based on skill, so that (theoretically) no-one ends up feeling completely robbed. I know this movie has been out for a while, but I just saw it last night on digital cable, so I thought I would give my review. This movie follows an elite US Marines sniper (Mark Wahlburg) that is set up by the FBI to make it look like he assasinated the president of Ethiopia. He then has to run and hide, and overall kills a bunch of people. This is a pretty good action flick. Lots of killing, good effects, OK story. Overall a very entertaining movie. You won't be seeing it win an Oscar, but a quality film nonetheless. Great for action/suspense junkies or anyone that's bored and needs something to get them pumped up. I give it an 8/10. I was impressed when the 17 megapixels cameras were announced. I was under the assumption that these numbers would gradually increase with every new model. But to my surprise I stumbled upon a camera that just blew all my thoughts. I loved the trailer that Jonathan Mak posted about Every Day Shooter after the Independent Game's Festival. The fusing of the Rez stylings on music with a more traditional arena shooter atmosphere has shown a lot of promise in my opinion. It seems that other people have agreed, as Sony put out the announcement earlier this week at E3 that the infectious shooter will be appearing on the Playstation Network in the future.A lot of people have been comparing the game to Geometry Wars. I'm not sure if that's really a fair assessment, but since the game's do share the same basic control, I guess its only natural. The new E3 trailer is below.I can't wait to get my hands on it, but until then I recommend heading over to Newsweek's video game blog, Level Up for a great interview with the creator.

Sucker Punch, the creators of the Sly Cooper series, are working on a new PS3 game titled Infamous. At Sony’s E3 2007 press conference they showed the first trailer for the mysterious third-person action game. Planned as an online game, Sony says that Infamous is its own entry into the open-world, sandbox genre of gaming. It looks like it combines elements of the MMO City of Heroes and the open-world Crackdown, where you make the choice between becoming a hero or an anti-hero! It’ll be released in 2008. The trailer shows you making your way through a bustling city that’s falling apart around you. “Nearly all men can stand adversity. If you want to test a man’s character give him power,” is an amazing quote from Abraham Lincoln, if only all people would live by it instead of just play/experiment with it in games.

Originally I wanted to concentrate purely on Linux programs, however, I had to change this decision. Why? I know, there are plenty of software available under linux. Still, some people might be missing the extra functionality which is included in other windows programs. There’s no need to install windows and dual-boot it with linux, you can easily run windows programs in linux by using excellent wine or CodeWeavers CrossOver Linux. Lately I was looking around what other free programs are available out there and came across Raw Shooter Essentials. Initially, this program was created by Pixmantec, however Adobe has taken it over. Raw Shooter Essentials, which was excellent free product is not available anymore, but you can still find it on the net. One of the great reason why I have mentioned it in my blog is that it runs just perfectly under Linux - wine or CrossOver Linux. (more…)

A brand new alternate reality World War II first-person shooter has been announced by Codemasters called Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. Set in the early 1950s, Turning Point gives us an alternate-reality history where the Nazis were triumphant in Europe in World War II and have launched an assault on the United States homeland! You play New York City construction worker Dan Carson, who turns into a reluctant freedom fighter in order to survive the invasion and fight back against the Nazi war machine. “Always outmanned and outgunned, players must use guerrilla tactics and hand to hand grappling combat as they attempt to stop the world’s most notorious war machine”, Codemasters explains. Even though he pitched only two seasons in Chicago, Rod Beck will always be a Chicago Cuyb in my mind. In 1998, he was a large part of their National League Wild Card run. Beck saved 51 games for the Cubs that year and his Fu Manchu mustache, wild hair and beer belly fit his personality well. He was always said to be a great teammate and a sort of blue collar Major Leaguer, which was evident by his minor league stint with the Cubs in which he invited fans to hang out in his Winnebego.
