The happily married duo, known as Handsome Furs set out on their little holiday tour of Ontario last night in Ottawa. They were slated to play at Club Saw, but then moved to Mavericks for capacity issues… and after seeing Mavericks, I can’t imagine how small Club Saw must be. We arrived at about 8:15, and met Dan and Alexei outside who were also on their way in after SEVEN HOURS of driving from Montreal, which is normally a two hour drive. Dan jokes about that and Quebec’s inability to cope with large amounts of snow in his always entertaining stage banter.
They have been touring for quite a while now, so there were no new songs played. We were treated to incredible versions of the album songs, as well as the non-album track “Heaven” and their cover of Tom Petty’s “You Got Lucky”. The municipality and the citizens of Bansko ski resort will polish the city for the opening of the new winter season in the middle of December.
The people from Bansko will clean streets, pavements, green areas from rubbish. This is municipality initiative, which aims to transform Bansko in a cozy place for tourists.
The resort won’t be in dust and dirt. Local people already used to the idea they should work harder for one more friendly image of the resort, shared Aleksander Kravarov, mayor of the city for second mandate.

I began taking classes this year in order to make our lives easier. So far this semester has proved that that goal is going to take a while, because it the meantime . . . it's a helluva lot harder. While I'm only taking 14 hours, those 14 hours have had a huge impact on my family. Laundry is left undone, dishes are left in the sink, and I'm so very TIRED. Much more so than I had anticipated. Childcare has us running in circles, and my MIA status has been reflected in the boy's behavior.However . . . the biggest surprise to me has been how fantastic my Mr. Honeybell has been. This is not to say I expected him to be an asshole about it or anything, but I've been so pleasantly surprised how supportive and helpful he has been! Kubrick’s only horror film is a creepy and effective adapatation of the novel by Stephen King. King was apparently very unhappy with the deviations that Kubrick chose to make from the original novel, but it is difficult to argue that any changes actually detract from the film.
Famous for it’s innovative steady cam and tracking shots, The Shining demonstrates Kubrick’s ability to ramp up an intense sense of dread. Music and sound effects are also used to great effect to create an atmosphere of suspense and horror.
The performances in the film range from understated to over the top. Jack Nicholson is excellent as Jack Torrance, a simmering, volatile man who is hired to stay - with his wife and daugther - at the isolated Overlook hotel over the winter as the hotel caretaker. Shelley Duvall’s character unfortunately comes off as annoying, which detracts from the film somewhat, but overall The Shi

To me, the finale was somewhat of a letdown but not a total crash. I think the powers-that-be decided on art versus entertainment. Al primo posto c’è la famosa scena della pugnalata sotto la doccia di Psycho (1960) di Alfred Hitchcock, al secondo Carrie - Lo sguardo di Satana (1976), di Brian De Palma, ma è su Shining (1980) di Stanley Kubrick che mi trovo completamente d’accordo con la classifica. What a fantastic day it’s been today the sun is out and the weather has been great, too nice really to be stuck in recording new tracks, so we’ve been out in the sun jotting down some possible lyrics that we may use on the new album.

The Shapes We Make is Mary Timony's fourth solo album since she spent time in indie rockers Helium. It is (overall) a dark and moody record that oftentimes sounds like a back alley drug deal between Sebadoh and Sleater-Kinney. A proggy post-rock wet dream. Timony's husky and Kim Gordon-esqe alto pipes are well-suited for the baroque and downright medieval tone that permeates through much of the album. I love the frolicking guitar melodies and the lilting bass, but it is the rock solid polyrhythmic drumming of Devin Ocampo that really anchors Timony's unusual and off kilter tunes.I was actually all set to write this, but as I kept listening to The Shapes We Make I kept liking it more and more. I kept picturing the European countryside littered with drum kits and Marshall stacks with dragons flying overhead. That just proves I'm a little crazy, but (seriously) this is really a great and (surprisingly) warm album that really rocks (but only slightly). The Shapes We Make is out

Both IWR Blog and Out-Law report that the Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas, is demanding new powers from Parliament. He wants to "balance out an encroaching amount of surveillance technology," he told the Home Affairs Select Committee, with some checks to ensure that identity mistakes, security breaches and unnecessary intrusion into people’s lives do not take place. According to IWR, Thomas told the BBC that it was “wrong” the ICO was not allowed to check up on organisations unless they consented to it. “People now understand that data protection is an essential barrier to excessive surveillance” he said “But it is wrong that my office cannot find out what is happening in practice without the consent of each organisation”I wonder if he also feels that it is 'wrong' that information held in Government database
