Preity Zinta is dreaming of building a house in Shimla
Even while her home in Mumbai is being re-constructed, Preity Zinta is dreaming of building a house in Shimla. “I always wanted a family home in my home town. I’m now going to build a house there. The older one is in a locality that’s so crowded I don’t recognise it any more. Earlier it was just our house and lots of trees,” she shares. Preity has an ancestral land which she has been planning to use to build a dream house. “Now’s the time to do it. Build a farm house where my kids and my brother’s kids will grow up. It’s a little away from Shimla near the golf course. I want to make it completely eco-friendly. I’m also trying to buy an eco-friendly car. Delhi - Shimla Road Review
Last weekend, I drove to Kalka, rather Parwanoo, on my way to Timber Trail Heights, its one of those hotels perched on a hill top and the only good way to reach their is through a cable car, good nice clean place and more on that in a later post. This road further takes you to Simla and probably that would have made a better headline, thats why I named this as Delhi-Shimla review. I have been to Shimla once and few times to Chail, Kasauli, Subathu so would fill from past experience. Delhi - Shimla drive can be divided into 4 sections. 1. NH1 (Delhi to Ambala) - 200 Odd KMs. 3.5 hours. 2. NH21 (Ambala to Zirakpur) - 30 odd Kms. 1 hour 3. Zirakpur to Kalka - 60 odd Kms. 1.5 hour 4. Kalka to Shimla - 80 odd Kms.3 hours Get out of Delhi from Azadpur Bypass, more popularly known as just Bypass, this is on ring road which circles Delhi so hop on to Ring Road and go North from Bypass. Now you are on NH1, its one of those dead-long-monotonous stretch of tar on which you can driv

GUEST COLUMN - The homely Spring fields of Shimla
By Swarup Kar Purkayastha February 2002. As the cab drives through the narrow, winding roads of Shimla, to Springfields Hotel, it removes us from the hustle-bustle of the city and drifts one into a relatively peaceful realm. It is so easy to get lost as the place opens up and takes one in the warmth of its embrace. Imposing hills climbing high to kiss the sky, even as blankets of dense, white clouds swim in its vast emptiness. The sun is trying to break through the grey, morning mist from behind the hills. And yet it's not easy to get lost. The world, its smell, touches seep into the atmosphere as the city gets ready to wake up to the call of the day. The cold breeze brushes one's heart, birds chirp and kids queue in for schools. The cab screeches to a halt at the threshold of the hotel, situated at the outskirt of the city. I looked out of the window of my car confused as the hotel looks more like a residence. There is no sign of a hotel. No one at the gate. On the other side, there

      History of Shimla
Hill Stations in IndiaScottish civil servant Charles Kennedy built Simla's first British summer home in 1822, and by the latter half of the 19th century the town had become the summer capital of the British Raj. Many British soldiers, merchants, and civil servants moved there for roughly half of each year due to heat and disease at India's lower altitudes.Shimla is dotted with monuments; imposing buildings with a Victorian aura and often referred to as the hallmark of British rule in India. The Kalka-Shimla rail link, one of the few narrow gauge tracks still operational in India, bears testimony to the engineering excellence of the British.Shimla is named after Shyamla Devi, an incarnation of the fierce goddess Kali. No Yak rides in Shimla
The beast animal of higher altitudes is no longer visible in Shimla.when i was doing a search on these animals i got2 know that they were sent back to higher altitudes whcih were brought to shimla for tourist attraction. Thanks to objections by animal lovers and veterinarians, yaks will no longer huff and puff in the heat and on the asphalted roads of this Himalayan resort. In October last year, three of these high altitude animals were introduced by civic officials in downtown Shimla for tourist rides. There were even plans to bring in more of the hairy and shaggy beasts to ferry more visitors. But animal activists raised objections, saying the high mountain animals were not meant to be at such low altitudes.'Yaks don't feel at home below 2,800 metres altitude, and Shimla is only at 2,150 metres which could be disastrous for them,' click here for more details.http://www.hillstationsinindia.blogspot.com
