Sherry Knows Art when she Sees It
Another sunny one. We were out doing some wood earlier, and it wasn't bad at all, temperature wise. It's at least 32 now! I don't see much melting, but a bit is leaving I am sure. We are now 90% sure of getting more snow tomorrow, still there is no claim as to how much. I defy it to land on my house or my meadow!I had some fun watching the dogs up in the multiflora in search of a bunny. I saw one run out, but the dogs missed it, and were floundering pretty bad in the deep snow anyhow. The bunny, though certainly terrified probably was in no danger of getting caught even if they did see him. The cats are even venturing out a bit today. Hobbes, never one to get his feet cold, even stepped out, and when I went to look for him, discovered he had slipped off somewhere. Under something no doubt.

Someone’s had too much cooking sherry.
I know it’s not me? Is it you? Are you wondering where the grafitti banner is? Wondering where all the green and orange is? I had to change the theme. The one I was using (Blix) doesn’t allow for the proper display of the fuelroll and while I didn’t test out all the themes to be sure, I tested enough that it appears to be the only one that doesn’t. And I love fuelmyblog more than I love Blix, so Blix had to go. I’ll be switching up the banner and replacing a few things to create a bit of a new look around here. For now, the pages that were linked to in the old banner, are available at the bottom of the sidebar. They shall be buttons again, or my sister can tell you some embarassing story about me. But go ahead… help yourelf to some sherry anyway.

Charges dropped in sherry enema death
ANGLETON, Texas - Negligent homicide charges have been dropped against a former Lake Jackson woman who had been accused of killing her husband with a sherry enema that led to alcohol poisoning. Court records show the charge against Tammy Jean Warner, 45, of Texas City, was dismissed Aug. 31 because of insufficient evidence, the Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition Wednesday.Michael Warner, 58, died May 21, 2004. An autopsy showed he had been given an enema with enough sherry to have a blood alcohol level of 0.47 percent, almost six times the legal limit of .08 percent in Texas.Tammy Warner has told the newspaper that her husband was addicted to enemas and often used alcohol in them to get drunk.Source : news.yahoo.com

      HEDGING WAR by Sherry Chandler
I have been very slowly reading my way through Chris Hedges' War Is A Force That Gives Us Meaning (Public Affairs, 2002). I find it very slow going because every page seems to rip my heart out. Hedges is a great writer; the book is riveting, but it a portrait of humankind at its most brutal.I am slow in getting to this book because its publicity and its release date made me misconstrue what kind of book it is. Hedges was a war correspondent for The New York Times for 15 years, seeing action in South America, the Balkans, and the Middle East. But he studied English literature and Christian theology at Colgate University and Harvard Divinity School. He is a man who counted on memorized poems from Shakespeare and Yeats to keep him sane while held hostage during Iraq-the-first, who quoted to himself W. H. Auden's "Epitaph on a Tyrant" while watching a woman and two small children drinking water from muddy puddles outside Kuwait City (pp 90-91). (See Michael Parker's Journal for a commen

      Perpetual Hatred by Sherry Chandler
I have been a mother for nearly three decades. Those three decades have been a time of constant war: civil wars in South America, civil wars in Africa, ethnic wars in Eastern Europe, religious and ethnic wars in the Middle East, disappearances, genocides, rape camps. And always, as I have experienced the joys and sorrows of watching my sons grow, and learn, and struggle the struggles of American children, there has been the constant larger sorrow of knowing that in other places children were taken for warriors, children were raised to hate.Of all the atrocities humankind has committed in my lifetime, that seems to me the greatest — to taint the hearts of children with hatred. In his book War Is A Force That Gives Us Meaning (Public Affairs, 2002), Chris Hedges tells of visiting the Palestinean refugee camp Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip and how, from the Israeli side of the perimeter fence, an electric fence that separated the Palestineans from an Israeli settlement, soldiers in a Jeep

Introducing a friend of Peace, Sherry of Sherry Chandler.com.~Here is an observation by Gary J. Bass in his review Everybody Everywhere:"When one's loyalties extend to all of humanity, one has reached the climax, and perhaps the limits, of moral sympathy. Humanity, after all, is as much an abstraction as a reality. How concrete must ethical obligations be? Is a species too vast to be a meaningful moral object? Or is it the other way around: are our commitments in the particular premised on the possibility of universalism? These are also political questions, of course. The greatest dividing lines in today's world are certainly the ones on the map: I mean state borders. Orwell, trying to understand why Germans were bombing him in World War II, argued, "One cannot see the modern world as it is unless one recognizes the overwhelming strength of patriotism, national loyalty." Patriotism -- loyalty to the state -- is the doctrine that on this side of the line, you should care intensely, an

Sherry and Spanish Tapas - a Match Made In Heaven
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wine, or beer, or anything else that takes your fancy to have with your tapas. But until you try it with sherry, you're missing out on a taste tradition going back thousands of years. The first documented mention of sherry comes from around 1 BC - and that author mentioned original vines brought by the Pheonicians in 1100 BC! First things first though: the Spanish do not call their wine "sherry'. This is an anglicised version of the word "Jerez' (which is pronounced "hereth' with the accent on the second 'e'). To be considered a genuine "sherry' a wine must come from the "sherry triangle'. This is a region on the Atlantic coast of Anadalucia bordered by the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. So, no matter what it says on the bottle, anything else is just fortified wine in the style of Jerez. There are three main types of widely-available sherry: dry, medium and sweet, plus a
