NBC have finally announced that the cult 80's show Knight Rider will return to our screens for a new series. The show will return in February 17th 2008, there are to be a number of changes to the show but the two major ones is that David Hasselhoff will play an old Michael Knight but the big news is that KITT will be played by a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR instead of the old Firebird, the voice to KITT will be played by Will Arnett.
According to Auto Blog the new series of KITT will have three different cars that they will use for different scenes in the show, the first is a 540-hp standard version which is used for all the normal scenes, then there will be a high-speed version which has body amour for the KITT Attack mode, and finally we have the Remote version of KITT. The cool thing with the new KITT is that nanotechnology allows the car to change both its shape and color.

An 800-horsepower Shelby Cobra, once the personal car of the racing veteran who developed the iconic vehicle, has sold for $5.5 million at auction, a record for an American car.
The sale of the 1966 Shelby Cobra “Super Snake” brought a packed house to its feet Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction after a pair of bidders drove the price up.
Carroll Shelby, 84, who created the Cobra in the ’60s using Ford engines and a British sport car chassis, said he built the Super Snake — with twin superchargers on a 427 cubic inch V-8 — and drove it for years.
“It’s a special car. It would do just over three seconds to 60 (mph), 40 years ago,” Shelby told the crowd before the sale.
“I killed a buzzard with it,” he said. “Nasty, nasty.”
The car had a twin, built for comedian Bill Cosby, but that car was destroyed in an accident while being driven by another owner, according to the Barrett-Jackson Web site.

The title has now been taken (subject to official approval by the Guinness Book Of Records) by the SSC (Shelby Supercars) Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo. The car made two runs down a stretch of Nevada highway, with one run in each direction in accordance with Guinness Book of Records rules. The first run clocked 257.11mph, the second 254.55mph. The average: 255.83mph.The Aero is an altogether more brutal and functional creation than the Veyron - it lacks the luxury, panache and history of the Franco-German masterpiece. No word on whether any of the ultra-exclusive (and lighter) 'Pur Sang' versions of the Veyron revealed at the Frankfurt show have been pushed to the limit yet. It is said that the ‘Pratt-Shelby’ tie knot was invented by an employee of the US Chamber of Commerce, Mr Jerry Pratt. Mr Pratt had been wearing the knot for approximately twenty years before it came to fame. Its popularity can be attributed to a TV personality, Mr Don Shelby, who featured the knot on TV. It appears that the New York City fashion press then, incorrectly, credited Mr Shelby with the invention. It is therefore also sometimes known as the ‘Pratt’ knot and the ‘Shelby’ knot.
The knot is unique in that when the wearer commences to tie the knot it shows the reverse of the tie and on completion of the knot the tie is the correct way around – just like magic!
This type of knot is suited to shorter ties as it uses less length than the ‘Half Windsor’ and ‘Windsor knots’. The knot produced by this method is secure, symmetrical and of medium size.
Shelby SuperCars (SSC), manufacturer of the world’s most powerful production car, the Ultimate Aero TT, announced today that speed testing for the title "World's Fastest Production Car" will be finalized by the end of August. Speed testing is being conducted in the company's home state of Washington and is being validated by Guinness World Records.There is a standard procedure outlined by Guinness World Records to validate a land speed record. The vehicle must drive the predetermined course, turn around, and drive back the opposite way within one hour. This is to negate any discrepancy there may be in the course or conditions. Top speeds from each run are then averaged to obtain the official speed. Not too long ago I wrote about the Shelby Super Snake, now we are getting some more info about the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR courtesy of Motor Trend. Ford is bringing back a circ 1968 name plate that is still to this day one of the most sought after Mustang’s ever.Rumor has it that the 2008 GT500KR will be a hot enough pony to give the Corvette Z06 heartburn. The KR starts off as a GT500 that gets a new cold-air intake and a Ford Racing low-restriction exhaust. While there are no firm figures at this time, power is in the range of 540hp and 510 ft-lb of torque according to SVT Engineers. Other changes include stiffer springs and suspension, thicker anti-roll bars and a strut tower brace. Unlike the show car in thee photos, production GT500KR’s will ride on 18 inch shoes. Only 1000 of these 2008 Ford GT500KR’s will be built and the price is expected to be in the mid-$65k range. Those that already own a GT500 can upgrade to the KR form via bolt on parts. 0-60
If the regular 500-hp Ford Mustang GT 500 isn’t enticing enough for you, then maybe this very limited edition KR model will. The KR, you might remember, was the top-dog 1968 Mustang and a car that commands nearly $200,000 in pristine condition today.Launching next spring, just 1000 units of the 2008 KR will be available. Its supercharged, 5.4-liter V8 gets a “Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack,” which boosts horsepower to 540 for the KR. Whew! Sounds like good stuff to us.The GT 500KR comes with a unique carbon composite hood with scoops and stainless steel hood pins. A lower front air dam with brake ducting helps cool 14-in. Brembo front brakes. Ford & Shelby Automobiles are at it again - this time it’s the incredibly intense GT500 Super Snake they plan to release late in 2007.

This morning, Ford announced that the mighty King of the Road Shelby GT500KR will be making a return in the spring of 2008 -- just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original.
