Solid performances by Inter Milan, AS Roma, Barcelona and Sevilla saw the four teams through to the round of 16 on the penultimate match day of UEFA Champions League group play. Meanwhile, Rangers blew a chance to clinch passage to the next round by losing at Stuttgart, who had absolutely nothing but their pride to play for. Walter Smith's side now host Lyon in a winner-take-all game at Ibrox Dec. 12. The good news for Rangers fans is they will advance if the game ends in a tie, by virtue holding the tie-breaker after beating Lyon in their first meeting.Today's Barca-Lyon game was a good one, as expected. I was able to watch follow all most parts of it on the Internet and thought Lyon had a lot of fight and put on a solid showing. Juninho and goalkeeper Rémy Vercoutre impressed me in the little that I saw of the game (I didn't catch any of the goals). Lyon came back from goals down twice and it felt like the tie was a fair result.I don't know what happened to Rangers other than wh
Seville 1999. Men’s 400-meter world record.
Michael Johnson should have demolished the 400 WR in Zurich after his 19.32 200m in Atlanta, 1996.
Unfortunately he hurt his hamstring with that 100% all out effort, so we had to wait 3 years for this to happen. Everyone expected he would break the record; it was just a matter of “when”.
Unlike Butch Reynold’s 43.29 at Zurich 1988, a straight final invitational meet, Johnson went through the usual rounds with ease. In the semi-final, he literally jogs the last 100 meters and still runs 43.95. So you knew the record was going down, but would he break 43?
And yes, he was wearing his golden spikes, the ones he made famous in Atlanta 1996.
Both videos are presented here.

Seville San Pablo Airport is situated about 7km (4 miles) east of the city, just off the A4 road to Cordoba. Passenger numbers to Seville have increased rapidly though during the past few years, mainly due to low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Clickair. The airport code is SVQ.
Flights to Seville
Ryanair operates flights to Seville from London Stansted, Liverpool and Dublin. In addition, Spanish national carrier Iberia Airlines flies to Seville from Gatwick, Heathrow and several airports in Spain, while Iberia’s low-cost subsidiary, Clickair, flies to Seville from Amsterdam, Gatwick, Paris Orly, Rome Fiumicino, Barcelona and La Coruna.
Another budget airline, Vueling, operates flights to Seville from a host of European airports, including Amsterdam, Rome Fiumicino, Brussels, Paris CDG and Milan.

This incredible project consists of a 300-story tall tower, surrounded by 624 solar panels, producing enough energy to “power 60,000 homes.” Video after the jump. Here’s how it works: ..the solar panels, a 120m2 mixture of mirrors and photovoltaics, track the sun throughout the year, reflect the energy of the sun to solar receptor at the top of the tower. Water passes through pipes at the top, and is heated enough to turn it into steam by the solar receptor, which in turn passes through a series of turbines to produce electricity
It sounds like the beginning of a poem, but this time it is something else: solar power to, eventually, meet the needs of a city of 600,000 people without emitting a single puff of greenhouse gases.
People like myself, working in manufacturing in Spain, sometimes are eager to remind foreigners that not everything in in the country revolves around “Sun and beaches”.
This special from the BBC about the new solar tower by Solucar in the outskirts of Seville, seems to prove that the first part of the tandem works for industry and technology as well as for tourism. Whoever has been to Seville in summer may tell you that it is certainly a good spot for a solar thermal power plant; they do not seem to be lacking sunrays, definitely.
The article captures well the surreal effect of the tower from a distance: After all, it is ”A concrete tower - 40 storeys high (377 feet)- bathed in intense white light“. The effect is compounded by “the rays of sunlig
Seville 2 Tottenham 1
Spurs were beaten by Seville in the first leg of their UEFA Cup quarter-final.
Spurs had earlier taken the lead by Robbie Keane after less than 90 seconds. Seville drew level with 19 minutes on the clock, when Paul Robinson had brought down Adriano in the penalty area. Former Spurs striker Freddie Kanoute converted the penalty-kick.

For those looking to buy oversees property in Spain, the city of Seville and the region around it offer an ideal alternative to the expensive coastal resorts and the other major cities. While the Costas along the Mediterranean offer a great view, they come with a large price tag. Seville, a cultural and historic city in the Andalusia Region of Spain, has many qualities to offer, not least of which is one of the best housing markets in the country.
