Why is it that whenever Sir Marcus Smithster drags whichever version of The Fall he's currently lording over into a studio to record a radio session the result is always magical and often the tracks which are laid down are better than the album versions. The fact is that over twenty four Peel Sessions and however many sessions they've done for other programs and stations I can't recall ever thinking "...well that wasn't as good as the album version". My theory is that most Fall tracks are quite simple and Mark E Smith's delivery is very much "of the moment" and this is why when they have to do something in a short space of time it perfectly captures the energy of the band instead of sitting in a studio thinking about it. I suppose when you think of The Fall's radio sessions the first thing you think about are The Peel Sessions. Between 1978 and 2004 Peelies favorite band recorded no less than twenty four Peel Sessions and all of them are avaliable on the six CD set "The Complete Peel Sessions" a copy of which I'm sure nestles neatly in the corner of everyones living room. But It wasn't just BBC Radio One which revered Manchester's finest enough to have them in for a session. I think I'm right in saying that these sessions have never been issued commercially and are to my ears every bit as good as any of The Peel Sessions. American Idol Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis released his debut album last December 4. Dubbed as Audio Day Dream or simply A.D.D. the album features 16 tracks inspired by the mix of different genres ranging from pop to funk to soul to electro. Bhopal, Bollywood star Aamir Khan was granted anticipatory bail Tuesday by the Indore Sessions Court in a case relating to alleged disrespect to the national flag. A lower court had Oct 23 issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the actor for failing to appear in court. Aamir has been accused of disrespecting the national flag in a complaint filed by advocate Shailendra Sharma. He was the chief guest at a function organised by a car showroom Aug 16 where 11 national flags were hoisted. Sharma alleged that the flag was not lowered even after sunset and was treated shabbily. “Firstly, the tricolour was not removed much after sunset. After it was pointed out to the hosts, it was taken down in a derogatory manner and later put on the ground according to media persons present at the function,” the complainant said. (more…)
