One Year = One Million Views! I posted this video just 12 months ago and this clip has been enjoyed by 1,118,000 music enthusiasts from around the world. This cut is righteous and that's a beautiful thing! Whenever anyone asks me what I like to listen to when I get stressed or catch a case of the blues... I often will tell them Stevie Wonder. It just doesn't get a better than Stevie Wonder. Period

This toy is really cute. My two year old twins got it for their birthday, and they really enjoy it. It seems to be pretty good quality which I was worried about after reading the reviews for the garage. When you push the truck Elmo says Vroom, vroom just like my boys do, they love it and I think it is adorable. This biggest problem I have is them fighting over it so we will be buying a second

After I succumbed to the purchase of an overpriced plastic funhouse for my two-year-old, I never thought I’d get roped into any other toddler money-making schemes for at least another two six months. I’ve already spent an exorbitant amount of money on sippy cups, and purchased a bike trailer for my husband’s bike that has been [...]
In the 1980s, the legendary Celia Cruz was among the many guest stars on Sesame Street. Her songs always rocked. I only appreciate their awesomeness even more as an adult. "Uno, dos, tres. CUATRO.""Numero Comparsa" is definitely one of THE best Sesame Street songs ever. I listened to it four times before even typing this entry. I so want to add it to my playlist. In this next video, Ms. Cruz sings "Sun Sun Babae" with a little help from Big Bird. I used to try my damndest to sing along, but at four years old I wasn't exactly proficient in Spanish.

Forgetful Jones was one of my favorite Sesame Street characters. I'm not sure why exactly, but there's just something about him. He certainly was unique.Hehe, my immature self laughed at this excerpt from his Wikipedia profile for about five minutes: "He 'rode in the saddle' with his girlfriend, Clementine."Sadly, the character was retired in 1992 after his voice actor died. Godspeed, Forgetful Jones. Sesame Street just isn't the same without you.The video below features undoubtedly the best Forgetful Jones moment ever. That's right I'm talking about the infamous Oklahoma parody. Classic. And how adorable is Kermit in his little director's outfit?

I'm not in the mood for a long-winded entry today, so here's yet another Sesame Street clip from before I was born. This still aired regularly when I watched the show. My Sesame Street viewing years were during most of the 80s, when disco wasn't just passe, it was reviled. Due to this, I don't think I even knew what disco was until I watched this. I guess Sesame Street really does teach you more than just letters and numbers.Hmm, I wonder if "cookie" is a codeword for something else. Cookie Monster sure was jonesin'.
A helpful way to help teach your children about fire safety is with the Sesame Street Fire Safety coloring book. By helping your child with the coloring book you reinforce the importance of fire safety in your home.(Sorry about some of the blurry photos. I have a new camera and I'm learning how to use it and download the photos to my computer. My last camera was much easier.)Each page in this book illustrates a particular fire safety message. Some of the messages included:Plan and Practice Fire DrillsSmoke Detectors Warn About FiresStop, Drop and RollHot Things BurnThis free coloring book is available through the U.S. Fire Administration website - USFA. If you don't want to wait for it to come in the mail, it's also available ad a download in PDF format. When I order mine it also came with
When I watched Sesame Street, I'm willing to bet that at least half of the segments they showed were made before I was born (it sucks that they seem to have abandoned that trend, huh?). Case in point: this little animation from the 70s. Possibly the most unintentionally (or maybe it was intentional) funny clip ever. I'm sure that wasn't the only plant those kids were growing.
Without a doubt, "Teeny Little Super Guy" was my favorite Sesame Street skit. I think I identified with it a lot, because I used to play random little pretend games with various household objects. Yeah, I was a weird kid. Aside from that, it had the coolest theme song ever. I never did forget it, even during my post-Sesame Street, pre-Youtube years. In the following clip, Teeny Little Super Guy learns about Danger. Enjoy!
Is it me or does Sesame Street seem a little 'adult' these days? Not in the sex blog kind of way, or anything like that. Some of the sketches strike me as a little-to-way- beyond a kid's understanding, using references to adult shows such as Law and Order, The Apprentice, and others. Was it always this way? Then it occurs to me-holy crap-they're marketing to those kids who grew up with the damn show in the 70's and 80's, and now have kids of their own.**Ack! That would be me!**Unacceptable! What happened? While there are still segments of the show that are truly kid-friendly, etc., the magic is gone, inspiration is gone, simplicity is gone.Is it time for Sesame Street to just bow out? Possibly. Gracefully or not.Just a thought....And, yes, I've vented about the sad situation of Sesame Stree
Oh that Ben Bernanke, aka Boom Boom, aka Helicopter Ben, aka Big Baller, aka credit liquidity magician. After talking to the market with a stern voice and demonstrating that he does have some restraint with rate cuts, he follows the next day by opening up a corner loan shark store. While they don't have a problem having troubled buyers calling up a toll free number and opening up their financial books as if it were a therapy session, they want to keep a lid on what is going on with troubled banks:
"Some market observers suggested that banks would likely be to able to avoid the so-called stigma associated with the discount rate and borrow money through the auction process at a lower rate than the discount rate"
After all, you wouldn't want to hang out with a schizophrenic bank and have your friends and family start whispering behind your back. So even though the discount rate only saw a .25 basis-point cut, we now realize that many beleaguered banks can go even further off
Classic Sesame Street episodes, now available for the first time. Remember the Ladybug Picnic? Wanda the Witch? Did you learn to count with Bill Cosby or James Earl Jones? Or sing “Nasty Dan” with Johnny Cash? The most requested animations, sketches, and songs from seasons one through five of Sesame Street (1969-1974) are all here!

I loved Sesame Street when I was a kid. We didn't have television while I was growing up, so I was only able to watch at Grandma and Grandpa's house, which of course just added to that wonderful homemade-cookies excitement of visiting Grandparents. But I remember old school Sesame Street. I remember back when Big Bird was the only one who could see Snuffleupagus, and I remember when Mr. Hooper ran the soda shop. I remember the shock I had when, while visiting my Grandparents, I discovered that Snuffleupagas had become one of the gang, and that Mr. Hooper had died. These changes stand out in the memories of my childhood as markers, early lessons in change and loss, and things outside of your control. When I couldn't be watching, I was still listening. My all-time favorite record was the Bert and Ernie Sing-a-long, featuring Bert in the bathtub while the whole street shows up in the bathroom to sing away his suds. I still have a copy of this which I, um, still love to listen to
The Bryant Park Project, November 15, 2007 · Early episodes of Sesame Street are being released on DVD — with a warning that they are intended for grown-ups and may not suit the needs of today's preschoolers.Virginia Heffernan of the New York Times blog The Medium went looking for Big Bird, and found that his neighborhood has essentially been gentrified for a new generation of viewers. "I definitely had dimly remembered that something in the palette of the show was really unnerving — both unnerving and thrilling," she says. "I watched it from a small town, and it made me think of, you know, 'New York's mean streets!' "The vintage Sesame Street characters couldn't make on T.V. today, she argues. Just look at Oscar the Grouch, a fellow who lives in a garbage, gets no help with his obvious emotional problems and shows no ambition to better his station in life. Gone, also, are the parodies of PBS programing and scenes of puppets smoking pipes. And then there's the question of pa
I saw a report on the news about the early seasons of Sesame Street coming out on DVD. According to the report, the videos contain a warning that they are intended for adults and not suitable for children. What? The news report went on to detail the possible bad influences on children like; Oscar the grouch suffering from untreated depression, the Cookie Monster being on the fast track to diabetes, and the poor living conditions of Bert and Ernie’s basement apartment. I haven’t seen the label myself, this is just what I saw on the segment.
What is the world coming to!

I’ve written before about my love for the original, unadulterated Sesame Street of my childhood, and how Simon and I have spent hours enjoying the old clips - first on YouTube and then on our Sesame Street Old School DVD collection. I’ve even added the latest collection (Old School: 1974 to 1979) to my Christmas wish list. Not Simon’s wish list, mind you. Mine.
What I didn’t notice was that apparently somewhere on the DVD collections there is a disclaimer that states: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”
Seriously?
I mean, you only have to watch some of those old episodes to see how they are fundamentally different - and, IMHO, far richer - than what’s available on PBS today. But not suitable for a preschool child? What, because of the psychedelic colours, the folky music, the blissful naivety, the 1970s peace-and-love groove? Granted, it’s a litt
Wake up early, pack up the car with ever conceivable snack, drink, and toy combination to make any child happy on a long drive and you have my Saturday. Last week Jodi and I decided to take advantage of our Season Pass at Sesame Place and go on a day trip.
Usually I am weary of doing a day trip like this because Sesame Place is not exactly the closest place for us to go. Leaving early to drive for few hours with the knowledge that your child is not exactly going to enjoy being stuck in the car is enough to make most intelligent parents wish for a sedative (for themselves). So we go, and Eli is a champ on the way, no whining, no complaining. We are stuck listening to Laurie Berkner the entire time but that is okay (except when Eli won’t let us sing - I guess we sound horrible).
I have delusions of grandeur when I think of what Sesame Place could do to decorate for Halloween. I am thinking of spooky to the core with no expense skipped to make the place a fantastic Halloween experie
Who doesn’t love a little Sesame Street?? That’s right, the show is entering its thirty-eighth season today, including stars such as Tina Fey, Chris Brown, Brian Williams and more:
Sesame Street remains (thankfully) true to its roots. Sure, there have been a few tweaks necessitated by changing times: You might notice that the famous theme song (”Come and play…”) has been given hip-hop and jazzy under-rhythms. But the show’s core mission — introducing (and making familiar) to children the educational building blocks of letters, words, and numbers — is alive and well, accomplished in a way that never talks down to children and still manages to amuse their parents. A Muppet with an uncanny likeness to David Caruso leads the ”RSI: Rhyme Scene Investigation” skit, and viewers are encouraged to test their own rhyming abilities.

Fisher-Price issued a recall of several licensed character toys today, about 967,000 of them. The involved toys were manufactured between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007 and sold in the U.S. from May 2007 through August 2007.The recalled toys contain excess lead in the surface paints and could cause lead poisoning in children--manufacturer: China.I've been seeing many recalls due to lead poisoning, and most of them are produced in China. I don't know China's production policies, but until they stop producing products containing lead these many recalls should be loud signs that it's time for the U.S. to stop using China to manufacture their products.Having had a child lead poisoned at a young age from lead paint, I can't understand why China continues to allow products with lead off their assembly lines when they are aware of the health hazards to people. (They must be aware with the number of lead recalls in the past few years.) Do they really use these products themselves thinkin
Whenever anyone asks me what I like to listen to when I get stressed or catch a case of the blues... I often will tell them Stevie Wonder. It just doesn't get a better than Stevie Wonder. Period. I kind of felt like that today. Nothing serious though - just a little frustrated. So, I turned on this utterly incredible video of Stevie Wonder and his band playing Sesame Street in '73.Watch the video and check these cats out. Utterly insane. I challenge you to name one musician or group better than this today. Don't hold your breath.Superstition live on Sesame Street.1973Can you name the players? I have a few listed here, I think - but not all. You are invited to make suggestions and/or corrections. Do your best - the picture quality isn't the best - but the music record is sensational! The Band: Keys and Vocals – Stevie Wonder; Guitar - Ray Parker; Bassist - Anthony Jackson; Drums - Ollie Brown. Who's that on the Sax?
This parody of “Do The Right Thing” but with muppets is absolutely hilarious.
I’m curious as to what Spike Lee would think of this joint…

Tantan the orangutan and Jabrik the Javan rhino are among four new characters due to appear in an Indonesian version of the TV show ‘Sesame Street’ — part of US-funded efforts to win hearts and minds in the Muslim nation. The local version of the children’s show, called ‘Jalan Sesama’, which translates directly as Everyone’s Street, is beginning production in Jakarta and expected to air later this year after contracts with Indonesian stations are secured. The US Agency for International Development had earlier set aside $8.5 million for 156 episodes, part of $157 million pledged in 2003 by the Bush administration for education in Indonesia, which Washington regards as a key voice of moderation and democracy in the Muslim world. But the other two new characters — Momon, a 5-year-old boy who likes math and drawing, and Putri, a 3-1/2-year-old girl with a healthy dose of curiosity — bear a closer resemblance to Elmo and Ernie from the original show.To help draw in Indonesi
