Last week Nathan published a post on making sense out of senseless violence. Now it's my turn..This morning, a man entered the Regions Bank office in downtown McComb (my hometown) and killed an employee and a customer. He kidnapped his ex-wife and fled south on Highway 51. He killed his ex-wife and threw her out of the car in Fernwood, continuing south. My mother-in-law was driving at the time and saw him turn into our neighborhood with the passenger door of the car hanging open. Another whirlwind of a day here.....Bob returns from New Jersey tomorrow morning after flying up to attend his sisters funeral. I have been doing my best to hold down the fort so to speak.Stephen is still in ICU and although his lab work is looking good , he still is on the ventilator and heavily sedated until his lung that was pierced by a needle heals up and stays inflated. Yesterday, here in Las Vegas, two gunmen opened fire on a group of high school students stepping out of a school bus. Although six were injured, one critically, luckily none were killed. Police are still trying to track down the assailants.As a parent of a child that will eventually attend school in the Las Vegas area, this kind of thing scares the crap out of me. It makes me want to never let our child go to a public school. Taking it to the extreme, it almost makes me want to go all Agoraphobic and never let the kid out of the house. The Detroit News' Rob Parker on the Cabrera-Willis trade:It was a no-brainer. Whenever you have a chance to trade potential for production, you do it. Really? Even if it means trading a top prospect who's a year away from reaching the Majors for a mediocre veteran who would probably provide only a marginal short-term benefit? Obviously, that's not what happened in this case, as Cabrera, at least, is a star, but that sort of deal does happen way more often than it should. Chloe and snakeRight after I posted yesterday's article saying, "Today was another first for me," I had yet another first.I killed a snake. Actually, Chloe and I working together killed a snake. I'm not proud of it and looking at it today in the light, I doubted that it was venomous. I was scared to death last night, though. I was afraid that Chloe was going to be poisoned or that the snake might hurt the baby chicks, so I did it.Here is a blow-by-blow of what happened: Chloe was bark, bark, barking all evening making me very nervous. Finally, she started making a different bark/guttural growl/"I've got you now" sort of sound. I looked out the front door and saw that she had a small snake cornered. I ran to get the camera thinking I would get a video of her with a garden snake and then bring her inside so the snake could slither off somewhere. I was reading Times of India today morning when I found a article by Joseph Hoover which was about Sreesanth's aggressions. Students of UP Manila are all invited to unite with the rest of those who regret the passing of NCPAG student Cris Anthony Mendez. There will be a candle lighting vigil at the Oblation Garden, 5 pm September 11 (Tuesday). The event is open to everyone who chooses to take part regardless of faith, non-faith or affiliation. Senseless Death Is Senseless No Matter Where You LiveThe pain of the Massacre in Virginia is still raw as we try to make sense of it all. The airwaves are inundated with breaking news as we grasp for some reason, some way we could have prevented it, some sign we can identify to ensure it never happens again. When you consider the enormity of this incident, the impact it has had nationally and more specifically in Blacksburg and more significantly among those who knew and loved the 33 fallen souls it is easy to be overwhelmed. People are not supposed to die at the hands of disgruntled mad men for no other reason than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Young college kids on the cusp of making a life for themselves should not be senselessly slain before having the opportunity to contribute to making the world a better place. I got nuthin for ya’ll really. I stayed home sick with the dramas yesterday. I’m sick too but when you’re the mom you don’t get to really be “sick.” The Man stayed home sick today. 9 was sent home from school sick. She will probably stay home tomorrow too.
