One of the many egregious moments in the new Ben Stein anti-evolution film "Expelled" is the truncation of a quote from Charles Darwin so that it makes him appear to give philosophical ammunition to the Nazis. Hi, Steve Mirsky here. I’m going over our usual one minute. By now, you’ve probably heard of Expelled, the new Ben Stein anti-evolution crockumentary. It officially opens today as I speak, that’s April 18th. Because of my job, I’ve had the misfortune of sitting through this film twice now. As least I was getting paid. The film tries v
Microbes, the oldest and most numerous creatures on Earth, have a rich genomic history that offers clues to changes in the environment that have occurred over hundreds of millions of years.
While scientists are becoming increasingly aware of the many important environmental roles played by microbes living today--they process the food in our intestines, they keep carbon moving through the ocean
A report in the Telegraph suggested that even in areas of southern Spain, a region that has been subject to high levels of development, there are still investment opportunities that offer real rewards.Local market expert Sean Collins said that investors who are selective about their purchases could find "great value" in Spain. The Pure International managing director explained that "opportunistic" investors could take advantage of properties on the market in Costa del Sol, where there is established and reliable infrastructure, financing and rental pools.

good day everyone,if you are writing very lengthy posts, it would be beneficial to create a summary and add a read more link. if your readers click the link, the full length post will be displayed. the effect of creating a read more link is it makes your blog more "neat". blogger help has a guide on how to create, but it will display the link even on short articles that doesn't need to have one. this site, hackosphere has a code to do a selective display of the read more link. its really working as i expected. cheers!enjoy and GOD bless.
Another year with a Yigal Amir festival has gone by. I have no grievances for Israeli media than I do for any other item. Reporters and news editors are simply reckless in their endless race for fating. They see no reason why the coverage of Yigal Amir should be any different than any other item, and in this I agree with them. Something needs to change radically in "news reports".But I'm not going to focus on that, as this is not my main grievance. Yigal Amir had his son circumcised in jail with his wife and family. The issue of whether prisoners of life-sentence should be allowed to procreate is worthy of debate, but is a different issue. Once the Israeli law permits it, I see no reason to discriminate Amir from other life-sentence prisoners. Two demonstrations were held outside the jail. Protesters organized by Labour party and Meretz party came to protest against it, and kahanists came to protest in support. The fact that two protests were held at the same time, one in favor and one

The only way Virginia Tech officials would have known about Cho's anxiety and selective mutism would have been if Cho or his parents told them about it and asked for accommodations to help him, as he had received in Fairfax. Cho's disability was first reported in the Wall Street Journal and will be explored further when a panel appointed by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) releases an investigative report about the shootings. Although the only way college officials could have known about Cho's problem would have been from Cho, experts said that asking for help is an almost impossible task for someone with selective mutism. "Children with selective mutism don't want to be the center of attention. They don't like to sit on Santa's lap. They don't like their photo taken on picture day. They don't want kids to sing to them at their birthday celebration. They just want to be left alone," Schum said. "So when you put the responsibility on them and ask them to draw attention to themselves
I can’t stand people who use “Selective English.” By selective English, I mean people who can speak English, but act like they can’t when it comes time to do something that they don’t want to do. Don’t get me wrong, this is not an attack on illegal aliens. They are getting enough bad press and persecution these days. This is an attack on lazy people who hide behind their native languages. Thanks to one of them, my morning commute cost me $15 today.
I stopped by the Silver Spring McDonalds earlier this morning, since I had a craving for some good ol’ fashioned orange juice for some reason. Once I made my purchase, I realized that I did not have any change to catch the bus that would take me right outside of the building that I needed to be at. I then went back over to the lady who took my order and asked her to give me change for a $5 bill.
Mind you, this woman spoke English when she took my order and the three before me. All of the sudden, she
Thanks to Hackosphere's excellent Blogger hack, I've now been able to use selective post summaries in some of my lengthier posts! Phew, what a relief! I hated having such long posts taking over my blog pages. Instead, you can now see summaries of each post and choose to read the whole post by clicking the "Read more..." link instead. This way, you can find the information you need more easily, and scan posts on my front page without having to go through every other post first!Would you like to include this hack in your own Blogger blog?To use this particular hack, you need to be using the Blogger "Layouts", rather than the classic (old) Blogger template. Make a backup of your template by going to Layouts>Edit HTML>Download full template in your Blogger dashboard. Then hop on over to Hackosphere's post and follow the instructions to the letter! It took me a couple of attempts to get this right; my advice is to copy and past the code provided, as any extra spaces or line breaks could p
I was reading David Airey’s post called “What are your favourite creative quotes” and having a good laugh at the “You cant polish turd” quote, when I came upon his concern about including quotes in every footer. He definetely expressed a bloggers genuine nightmare of too many outgoing links. I started to type my tip in his comments page, when I figured that the larger population may benefit with this tip.
The the solution is very simple, and which I have used quite a bit in the Chilligavva site design.
Place the code wherever you want such as the footer, sidebar, header, only make sure that you thought of the conditions correctly, and you close the braces correctly.

Listen to radio or watch TV and you will come across a fascinating phenomenon. You hear scientists distinguish between global warming and man-made global warming, and you then hear journalists failing to make the distinction. What is really interesting about this is not the scientific incompetence of most journalists - this is such a commonplace as to be totally unremarkable. What is remarkable is the lack of perspective. The Earth's climate has been reasonable stable over the last 100 years - a time frame which is barely a blink in the life of the Earth - there is the assumption that if the world is changing it must be humans causing the change. The world had dramatic climatic and continental changes before humans were even in existence. For instance the Himalayas are relatively young mountains - there was a time not so long ago (geologically speaking) when they simply did not exist.Humans may be contributing to the change. We might even be a catalyst for change. But we are not
Associated Press reports, via Raw Story:
The Selective Service—the federal agency that would be integral to any draft effort by the Bush administration—will perform tests on its system equipment, the Associated Press is reporting.
Selective Service “is planning a comprehensive test of the military draft machinery, which hasn’t been run since 1998,” writes Kasie Hunt. “The agency is not gearing up for a draft,” an agency official told Hunt, and “the test itself would not likely occur until 2009.”
The article explained what a test would encompass.
The “readiness exercise” would test the system that randomly chooses draftees by birth date and its network of appeal boards that decide how to deal with conscientious objectors and others who want to delay reporting for duty, Campbell said.
Selective Service System officials, however, felt the need to calm fears of a possible draft looming in the future. The message on the front page of
Angelina Jolie says the worst thing you can do is seduce someone else's husband. The actress - who first met partner Brad Pitt on the set of 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' when he was married to Jennifer Aniston - says she hated her character in her latest movie, 'The Good Shepherd', because she seduces a married man, played by Matt Damon.Angelina - who now has a baby with Brad, Shiloh - is quoted by Britain's Grazia magazine: "She does one of the worst things a woman could do. One scene I actually had trouble shooting because I'm so against that behaviour."She seduces him, and entraps him into having a child. There's not much worse than that, is there? But they're both at fault. They both had sex that night." Just last week, Angelina vehemently denied she and Brad had embarked on a relationship while he was still with Jennifer and insisted they remained "just good friends" until he split from the former 'Friends' star. This reminds me of the time when I was 10 and I told Kevin Sheild

Today's New Haven Register has an article on the unequal leaf collection practices of West Haven. I had no idea that some people get the leaf vacuuming - and the rest of us are forced to bag ours. I'd prefer it if ALL OF US had the vacuuming - it would save countless hours of work, and save money on purchasing those lousy paper bags...
If the higher fuel prices and dropping home values are cutting your covers, you may still see full dining rooms on the traditional busy nights. Keeping the menu intact will allow a baseline business volume to be established each week. Try to use the revenue from these nights to cover all fixed expenses.
Cut fixed costs to the bone.
On the slower nights, use cost-volume-profit models to determine special prices. If your fixed costs are already covered, you could afford to offer free appetizers, two-for-one entree deals, a free glass of wine, prix-fixe menus, etc. (early in the week). You absolutely need to understand and cover any variable costs.
If you know your key cost components through standard recipes and tight flex schedules, it's easier to target your lost leaders. For example, don't choose labor intensive entrees for the two-for-one specials. Any specials should use ingredients with stable pricing which fit your menu. Avoid menu specials which require long prep ti
