By their very natures, homebuilders are typically an optimistic bunch, but gathering at this week's Builder 100 conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, they're trying to be more realists than optimists and foresee a pricing rebound delayed until 2012. From a BuilderOnline.com story:The downturn in home building will end around the end of 2009, with a three- or four-year trough to follow that will last as long as the next president's term in the Oval Office, said KB Home president and CEO Jeff Mezger, Wednesday at the BUILDER 100 Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.Mezger said that building activity would pick up during the trough, but that prices would not start increasing until the trough ends, sometime after 2012.Tom Eggleston, president of C.P. Morgan, based in Indianapolis, said roughly the sam
Um, Alex Rodriguez once again is being excoriated by the press -- this time due to the birth of his daughter, ordinarily a watershed event in anyone's life. Why does it seem everything he does PR wise turns out to be so awkward even when it should not be the case? From the Baltimore Sun: Alex Rodriguez passed out during the birth of his first daughter in 2004. "The one nurse had a cold cloth on his head. The other nurse had the blood pressure on his arm. And my mother was, like, rubbing his back. And he is passed out on a couch. And I am there, in the middle of labor," Rodriguez's wife, Cynthia, said on an episode of the YES Network's YESterdays that is scheduled to be broadcast tonight. Natasha Alexander Rodriguez was born Nov. 18, 2004.Is A-Rod a wuss? I don't think it's that big of a deal

Ever hear the saying "throw some $#%t against the wall and see what sticks"? Thus seems to be Blockbuster's (BBI) current business plan.
After being late to the video by mail model, late to the box top set model, talking about turning their obsolete locations into Apple Stores (AAPL) like locations, and attempting a doomed from the start takeover of Circuit City (CC), Blockbuster is trying something else.
Now Blockbuster is in talks about taking a stake in the new premium TV channel to be...

Seeing Yourself In Your Children - I was most recently blessed by my daughter when she came and showed me a small portion of her dairy. To my knowledge I had no idea she had had one. It brought me a sense of joy knowing the fact that the teaching and training in word and in deed truly pays in due time. Over the years my daughter have heard me say things and do things to the degree she actually talks and act like me at certain times. More: continued here Other Review: Rules of Love (Paperback)

In 2006, when Manouk Alexanian decided to buy a condo, he quickly found himself priced out of Montreal."I looked around the downtown area for condos and the prices were high, sizes were small and the taxes were high as well," said the 29-year-old consultant. "But since my job is in downtown, I needed a fast way to get there."Rather than sacrifice space or convenience, Alexanian began to look north, in Laval, where prices were lower and a newly-extended métro line was set to open. After less than two weeks, he found a 900-square-foot apartment for $120,000, about two blocks from the de la Concorde métro, one of the three new métro stations that opened last year.
You know something's hot when Forever 21 comes a knock knock knockin' on (or off?) your door. And apparently, reusable shopping totes are smoking: Forever 21 seems to have copied this World Shopper Bag (a bag that we featured back in July 2007) from Target. The price difference is negligible, so I'd say go with the original. But hey, as long as you're skipping the paper and plastic, I suppose any reusable bag is better than none.

From India connects with Sufi music after nearly 200 years : "Bulla, I know not, who I amNot a believer inside the mosque,Nor a pagan disciple of fake ritesNot the pure among the impure…Neither fire, nor from air is my birth" These secular lyrics penned by Sufi mystic Baba Bulleh Shah in the 17th century and set to music by a folk singer on his acoustic guitar had the young and the old - Hindus, Muslims and people of other faiths - rocking in India. Rabbi Shergill was not the only one. Several contemporary Indian musicians have been travelling back in time to cull influences from Sufi music - a legacy bequeathed by 13th century poet-saint Jalaluddin Muhammed Rumi, the founder of the cult of the "whirling dervishes", the first-generation Sufi minstrels. These "spiritual

It's that time of the month again... haha! Not 'that' time girls:) What do you see in the pictures below? You'll need concentration and good 'eye skills'. Have fun! Ouch!! My eyes hurt! This is one of the toughest for me, but is it easier for you?
One of the most copied (and the easiest to imitate) trend this season so far is the star print. It's everywhere. It's in all the highstreet stores I've been to or checked out online. And I'm really starting to dislike it. Let's start from the beginning, the star prints were most prominently featured in the S/S08 collections of YSL in the form of big starry prints and costume jewelry. The plastic star earrings were sold out when I went to a YSL store a few days ago in Hong Kong. As for the plastic star necklace, the first time my friends and I saw the price online, we were absolutely flabbergasted! The other prominent star supporter was Chanel, in the form of little white stars with a navy blue backdrop. Some fashion magazines have included it as an example of the stars trend, while others

SEEING... VISION AND PERCEPTION IN A DIGITAL CULTURECall for PapersCHArt (Computers and the History of Art) 2008 ConferenceThursday 6 - Friday 7 November 2008 (central London venue to be confirmed)This year's CHArt conference takes seeing as its theme and the associated questions of vision, perception, visibility and invisibility, blindness and insight - all in the context of our contemporary digital culture in which our eyes are assaulted by ever greater amounts of visual stimulus, while we are also increasingly being surveyed, on a continual basis. What does it mean to see and be seen nowadays? How have advances in neuroscience or developments in technology altered our understanding of vision and perception? What kind of visual spaces do we now inhabit? What new kinds of visual experience

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview:Q: We have been getting all sorts of reports, ICICI Bank saying unit sales have come down, couple of developers said that prices are relatively holding at this point in time - what is your assessment of value in this industry as a whole right now and how has it changed over the last three months?Dutt: It is a given that the prices have actually slowed down, the markets are stagnating. But if we were to elaborate on the buyer segment, if we were to distinguish between end users and investors, I may agree with Rajiv that the overall slowdown is 20-25%. But when it comes to investors which are a speculative component of the markets, the fall has been significant. We assume it must be over 40-50% and that is where the impact is being felt by the de

Duke basketball tickets have long been some of the most difficult basketball tickets to find in the United States. The program has been almost a gold standard by which all other programs are measured, and that includes not only their on-court success but also their sterling reputation as student athletes. No one questions the fact that Duke runs a clean and successful program under the legendary stewardship of Mike Krzyzewski. However, the 2006-07 season has been a disappointment for the Blue Devils, and that was never more apparent than in their recent loss to arch-rival North Carolina. The Blue Devils played extremely hard and extremely well, but still could not overcome the talent and ability of the Tar Heels. Below we'll examine whether this season is an indication of things to come o
No one knows when the concept of using assistance animals for the blind first came into being. It is suggested that dogs have been used in such a capacity in various cultures for a very long time. It is known, however, that there was no formal guide dog program in existence until after the First World War.Why German Shepherds? Many people have probably wondered why guide dogs and Seeing Eye dogs are so often German Shepherds. The reason is actually twofold. First of all the German Shepherd has a strong sense of loyalty to its owner, giving it a natural tendency to be protective. Having a very protective dog as a companion is an obvious asset for someone who may otherwise be easily attacked by less then scrupulous individuals. The other reason is far simpler; the first guide dogs for the bli

Ghazali repeatedly makes the point:One of the main veils that keeps people from seeing God is religious fanaticism. He says, it doesn't matter too much which school of Islamic laws you follow. There are different theological positions that is valid to adopt.Try and be orthodox, in fact its necessary to be orthodox, but whatever you do, don't turn it to some kind of zealot; so that religion just becomes a way of feeling that you are better than everybody else. Each New Testament writer emphasized different parts of Jesus' life and ministry. But two key parts of the story remain in all 4 gospels, Acts, the epistles, and Revelations: Jesus died and rose. There were many differences in how the story was told, even in the early church, but the elemental parts of the story, Jesus' dying on a cross and rising, are clear.

At least 13 employees are expected to be fired from UCLA Medical Center over allegedly viewing Britney Spears’ confidential medical records, the Los Angeles Times reported. Six other workers have been suspended, according to the paper, and six additional workers, who are doctors, will be punished for looking at Britney’s records, a source familiar with the situation told the paper. However, according to the new report, this is not the first time that workers have been reprimanded for peering at Britney’s medical files. A handful of employees were caught reviewing her files after she gave birth to Sean Preston at a UCLA medical facility in 2005. Those viewings resulted in the firing of several employees."I feel like we do everything that we possibly can to ensure the privacy of our pat

They look like areas for vending machines but actually accommodate both the toilets and the vending machines. What's it like? This large farmer's market area contains several buildings, all of which hold various stands that sell a variety of goods when the place is working at full speed in the summer. While Andy takes my baby away for a tour of the house, I am writing to you from the lovely home of my friends Allison and Andy in Austin. Yes, Amos n' Andy are together again. Har har har.Sorry to disappoint, but I am on my way home. I will likely fly to Denver tomorrow. Things just became... too much. My dad will either pull out of this or not. There is nothing I can do to sway the scales. It was a hard decision, but several outside family members, my love Phil, and friends have stepped up to say, "Sarah, enough. You don't need to kill yourself, too." Well, then. Okay. It's nice to have someone else making the decisions for a bit.So, home for Amos and me. Today, I will relax in Austin, drink coffee, admire Allison's gardens, and breathe without worrying who it affects around me.

Elite Screens Spectrum 84 inch Diagonal 16:9 Electric Projection Screen. A home theater system consists of many different elements that need to come together in order to deliver a truly satisfying viewing experience. By far, two of the most important of these elements are the type of display and the sound system. A true home theater experience relies upon the fusion of both the visual and aural elements. If the two are able to complement each other well, the end result is sure to be spectacular. However, if the either element is lacking in terms of quality and performance, the impact is greatly lessened. In terms of visuals, nothing else says “impact” like a colossal screen, such as the Elite Screens Spectrum 84" Diagonal 16:9 Electric Projection Screen.

Now the fact that Miniature Horses are being used as Seeing Eye Guides for the blind is not funny in itself. I think it's rather cool. What is funny is my husband's reaction. I recently showed Steve a couple of posts out there. One at Simply Marvelous and more recently at Home On The Range . He did not believe it and swore that these horses were the mechanical Hasbro Butterscotch Pony......... We just argued for 15 minutes about it. I am laughing so hard......"How can a toy act as a seeing eye guide, Darling? " "Dogs do, why not mini horses?" His reaction, "Nooooooo????????" Oh what a silly man he can be sometimes, makes for great conversations and he gets his own back every now and then. Once I convinced him that a Jackalope truly exists, even went so far as to get him a mounted Jackal
Experiencing the Reality of Christ in a Spiritually Blind WorldLast night I was watching a program from the History Channel called “The Naked Archaeologist.” It’s hosted by an Israeli-born Canadian Simcha Jacobivichi, who is one of the professors of archaeology at the University of Toronto. Simcha is a bit of a comedian and his off beat approach to the sometimes dreary subject of archaeology is very entertaining. In fact, I think that he is so good at it that we’re going to be discussing a few of his programs at the Monday Night Bible Study group starting tomorrow night. So, if you’d like to come along and be educated and entertained by Biblical Archaeology, then you’re welcome to join us tomorrow in the parlor at 7.15pm.Enough with the church commercials, the reason I started
Sometimes we all need a little perspective to appreciate how lucky we really are. After living here for some time, many expats find themselves in the trap of focusing more on the things that irritate or inconvenience, without appreciating all our blessings. For example, we see clearly how hawkers on the street go out of their way to aggressively try to sell to us because we are foreigners, but we
Jennifer Lopez, Nancy Grace and Marcia Cross have more in common than just being famous women at the peak of their careers. They have all recently become the proud mothers of twins. Lately, Hollywood just can't seem to avoid the twin phenomenon and two more expectant leading ladies are rumored to be joining the club. This week, the National Enquirer reported that Jessica Alba is expecting twins with boyfriend Cash Warren, while Star and X17 Online have both claimed Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are expecting two additions to their ever-expanding brood. The "celebrities having twins" trend seemed to gain momentum in 2004, when leading lady Julia Roberts, at the age of 37, gave birth to Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter Moder. But Roberts and her husband, Danny Moder, weren't the only celeb

I first heard about the word and place Harajuku from our HR in Makati. She would always tease me not to fall in love with girls in Harajuku. Well, I finally set foot on this place. I can say that this is like an upscale Okachimachi. Takeshita street is filled with so many souvenir shops, fashion accessories, clothes shops, jewelries, lingerie shops, RTWs, crepe shops and restaurants. Compressed and just one street and this place is filled with so much people who want to find affordable fashion wears.Along Yamanote line, get-off at Harajuku and then when you go out of the station, this street is already visible from the other side. One thing for sure is that your money here can buy more than you can buy in the fashion streets of Ginza, Roppongi and Shibuya.Wolfgang's restaurant is also here. I don't really know if this is really his restaurant. But from outside, it seems that this restaurant serves delicious food. Many foreigners fill this road. When visited this place, most people we
The aggregate of structures situated within or near the orbit that assist, support, or protect the eye is vision!!! Hold on, I know this sounds odd and excruciatingly complex. In simple words, vision is anything and everything you can see. Ever wondered how does this happen?Try doing this small exercise: hold a pen (slanting sideways) in your left hand another pen in your right hand keep them as far as possible and then make both the points meet. It's easy. Now close one eye and do the same. It's difficult because one eye creates a semi 3D image or more of a 2D image, and both eyes together create a 3D image. The beauty of 3D formation is that it's created due to an ERROR. An error of 1.5 to 2 inches. This is the usual distance between our eyes. The image formed by our left eye and the image formed by our right are then sensed and overlapped by brain. This erroneous image is the 3D image, which has been formed.Next generation televisions are also coming in to market, which provide

Shelly Banjo has an article posted on Wall Street Journal Online titled “Online Sleuthing for Home Buyers”. In the article, Banjo discusses the ever increasing amount of information available on various websites to Internet users searching for real estate. In particular, she talks about Zillow.com and Trulia.com, arguably the two hottest names in real estate portals on the web.
While both Trulia and Zillow are building their following by providing supplemental information related to real estate (which the public is demanding more and more), they are not there in regards to having a full listing of homes for sale in a particular area. Banjo writes regarding these two sites;
“For starters, users can enter a city, town or ZIP Code and see a listing of every home for sale, sortable by price, address, number of bedrooms or bathrooms, broker or type of home (single-family or multi-family).”

I must admit that I am a lazy reader and that’s why I seldom read books. To overcome this laziness, I found another yet lazy solution. That is to have the author of the book read it to me.. hehee.. :o) Not really read to me in person, it is listen to their audio CD.
I will normally turn on a motivational/self help CD whenever I was driving on the road. It had become a habit for me now. Anyway, it is a good habit because it really broaden our mind and build characters in listening to motivational things. My car now become my personal University on Wheels for Success.

Drooping dollar impacts growers
By David Sharp
Associated Press
PORTLAND, Maine — The drooping value of the U.S. dollar means Canadian Christmas tree growers are seeing less green this season.
Canadian growers have seen their U.S. sales decline in recent years because of increasing costs and competition from U.S. growers. But it’s their own currency that’s causing them the most grief these days.
Compared to the U.S. greenback, the Canadian dollar is 15 percent higher in value than it was at the beginning of the year. Because growers are paid in U.S. dollars, their revenues are dropping by the same amount.
Canadian exporters of products ranging from seafood, lumber and auto parts to Canadian Club whiskey are all in the same boat. But Christmas trees are an especially visible example at this time of year.
The situation is blamed for driving Canada’s largest Christmas tree grower, Nova Scotia’s Kirk Forest Products, out of business.

I do think the poster is interesting for its Orweillian characteristics. I wonder if “the state is watching you” theme was intentional.
I don’t support conspiracy theories, especially ones that cartwheel into borderline lunacy. But I do find police and city monitoring an interesting trend, especially in the discussion of privacy rights versus the surveillance of public spaces. But to me the realm of discussion terminates there. Save for the marketing folks at Safeway and Visa I don’t think anyone else, especially a government agency, is tracking my life and examining the most microscopic details. If anyone has a file on your life it’s companies and corporations trying to market to you, not secret government agencies.

One of the major benefits of online dating is the ability to remain anonymous. As we all know there is something about an air of mystery that excites many of us. The less a person reveals about themselves, the more we want to know about them. That is human nature and its something online dating exploits quite effectively. Being anonymous also seems to liberate many of us. People become less inhibited about sharing their inner thoughts online with people they really don't know. And that brings us to the flip side of being anonymous online; the power to deceive. Whether it's exaggerating a dating profile or putting up a fake picture, online dating comes with built in pitfalls. Even if you are with a dating service that does a great job of screening prospective suitors, there is no one hundred percent guarantee. Many people that lie are quite good at it and being anonymous only sharpens their skills. Are you being misled? Here are some ways you can find out. 1. Good Answer. Maybe Too

I received an email from a person in my office that was forwarded with good intentions, but makes me crazy. The email basically says that to show your support for the troops in Iraq, you should wear red every Friday. What? Are you kidding me?!?No. Just No.What is the purpose of wearing red? To show your neighbor that you support the troops? To show your co-workers, children and friends that you're willing to make the giant sacrifice of wearing a red shirt on a Friday because you support the troops? How is that going to bring cheer and comfort to the troops half-way around the world? How is it going to boost their morale? How is it going to benefit them in any possible way?? They can't see it. It doesn't make them feel better. They can't use it to help relieve stress and boredom.Wearing a red shirt on Friday is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard. Talk about futile gestures. It does NOTHING for our troops! NOTHING!!!You want to show your support? Really? You want to take 5 se
Taken with Canon A70 digital camera winter 2006. Click image for larger view.
I took this photo very early in the morning (6 AM) when I saw the beautiful moon lightning up the landscape. As this picture was taken in the middle of the winter, moonlight is the closest we get to see the sun in Northern Norway.
Today is the first of November. That means I have about 17 days left with sunlight before the sun disappears..
I used a cheap compact camera in this shot so that is why the quality is a bit crappy, but I think it’s still a beautiful scene if you don’t pixel peep.
Have you checked out the Photos from Northern Norway 2008 calendar? I have been getting some very good reviews of it

Technology is lovely. And I am gushing about video conferencing!
Video Conferencing is the answer for today’s corporate world where almost everybody’s online. It would not be a wonder when people simply find it more comfortable to sit in front of a computer and do their business in front of it.

There are many forms of fuel that we can use for our lives and businesses. These sources include electricity, solar energy, fossil fuel and of course oil. The oil that we use originally comes from crude oil. This crude oil is the pure form of oil. With OS X 10.5 Leopards hundreds of new features, well be reading about different tweaks and hidden commands for months to come. Forums will be awash with whats the most useful, whats the most useless applications and innovations. I must say that one of the most important updates I see coming is with iChat. Now I know most of us use iChat as a social thing, and the majority of us dont leverage its instantaneous file transfers and quick response via voice, video or text, as much as I think we should. I use it for soft proofing with almost all of my clients, sending files, working through the comping process with designs, and text process with articles. Im looking forward to being able to consult freely using my desktop instead of my image, sharing desktops, changing backgrounds so that I can look like Im on vacation rather than sitting glumly at my desk. Or perhaps the other way around. iChat, if you havent read yet, will add a plethora of new features in itself, that will make it a con

Looks like the rumour is true that Chotte Nawab Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are seeing each other, after all. Kareena Kapoor recently broke up with long time boyish boyfriend Shahid Kapur, and this time fall for this slightly older Saif. Saif also broke up with Italian Girlfriend Rosa recently. Rosa will be appearing in movies soon. There is rumor that Shahid might be seeing Amrita Rao, the closeness with whom was rumored to be the reason for his break up with Kareena in the first place.[Photo Credit]
Once you hit college Halloween becomes the one night a year where girls can dress in next to nothing and nobody says shit. Even the girls seem to call a truce amongst themselves. A girl can show up in lingerie and you won’t hear one other girl drop a “she is dressed so slutty”. I can’t explain why this happens but I will say that it is awesome.
Double Viking has a great post about the hottest and yet most creative Halloween costumes that you won’t be seeing at whatever party you are attending this year. The top five are listed below but you will have to hit the link at the bottom for the full set of pictures.
1. Miss Video Game - What guy can resist the combination of video games and a hot chick?
2. Gold Digger - This is really just a tight dress that is gold in color until you add the hard hat.
3. Border Patrol - You may actually have a chance of seeing this one on a girl at a party you attend.
4. Sexy Ghostbuster - Definitely second to Miss Video Game. E
Just as Britney Spears thought she was getting her life back on track, she has now received the sad news that she has been stopped from seeing her kids. This follows an emergency court hearing, and has been part of a long custody battle between Britney Spears and ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
Sky News is not clear how the troubled pop star will be able to gain future access to her children, but one thing is certain, the 25-year-old singer must be going through hell after all she is a mother. Although Britney has been working very hard to get her music career back on track, it seems as if it is much harder for her to sort her private life out. She has recently missed a drug and alcohol test, this was ordered by the court, she was also charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.
This is not the end of this on-going custody hearing, but the people who are suffering the most through this ordeal are the two children two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James.

Bollywood never runs short of love stories both in reel and real lives. Once again, sexy actress Riya Sen, daughter of yesteryear actress Moon Moon Sen, is linked with a fellow actor. She recently said that guys try to woo her wherever she goes and sometimes feels that everyone wants to marry her. This, time, some has managed to woo her. Yes, the grapevine is abuzz with the news that she is seeing actor Akshaye Khanna.Riya has been linked with a few guys in the film industry but failed to survive the test. Akshaye Khanna too has been keeping a low profile as far as love life is concerned following his breakup with Tara Sharma. So, it is quite natural for the lonely souls to fall for each other. They have not made their relationship public but sources said that they are in love.
A while back I wrote a post about how the mortgage industry needs to turn back time, and now it appears the folks over at CNN Money and the Mortgage Bankers Association agree. Plus, some of them have a pretty dry sense of humor!
“You probably have a lot of loan officers who can’t spell FHA,” said Bibb.
Bibb and David Lowman, CEO of Chase’s Global Mortgage, which is a top 10 originator and servicer, said that during the go-go days of the housing boom, loan officers would steer home buyers with weak credit to subprime loans. And they would advise them to finance part of their down payment with a home equity loan.
Glad to know that professionals are offering continuing FHA support.
EDINBURG — Government security forces in Myanmar have reportedly killed at least three Buddhist monks who were peacefully participating in massive, ongoing protests against that country’s military government. Tensions started to rise last month, when the government drastically raised fuel prices in the impoverished country. Persecution of Buddhists in Myanmar and Tibet have consistently garnered media attention and cries for justice from activist groups in the United States.

The stunning images of the Burmese peoples’ popular uprising flowing to the rest of the world through the internet (before the military regime started blocking information) brings to mind the passages of a book I read earlier this month.
When I started reading Seeing, I commented that Jose Saramago’s plot, where disillusioned voters from the fictional [...]
