As you may recall in an earlier post as part of my decorations for our Czech house I brought over some seashells collected on a beach in Kent. I thought they would be very English objects for my Czech home, a bit of the seaside in landlocked central Europe. I very carefully washed them (so as not to smell) and placed them in a bowl of tap water on the windowsill, thus showing off their colours and patterns. "Silver and Seashells"8X10Oil on Linen PanelAvailable I want this!As long as I was having a moment with the little clam shell, I decided to expand on the subject and try something I have been wanting to do. I have painted silver in acrylic and watercolor before, but have not tried it in oils until now. You tell me...did I get there? Some time ago someone gave me a candle in this small silver container with the beaded edge. The candle has long ago been used up, but I saved this little piece of silver, knowing I would use it for something someday. I guess today is the day.
So far, the top inch of this piece was visible only in the charcoal sketch. I betcha never even noticed. So here it is, in all it’s glory:
Seashells in soft pastel, 12″ x 9.” My initials made it onto the front of the finished piece, and are hidden between the lower left shells.
