it is an interesting slant that this openness of content would make the search more interesting, using the power of user-generated content, which is very un Microsoft! Wikia Search is one response to this trend and follows on from previous user-generated content successes like Wikipedia

Grabbed this off e-consultancy.com - Its very interesting and a big step forward for both google and online marketers as a whole, this is the first new media to be added to google for quite some time, and poses an even greater emphasis on good on-site content. This really goes some way to show how blogs have become far more mainstream in recent months, and more importantly how the end user uses blogs as part of their browsing habits. Taken from e-consultancy.com Marissa Mayer, the firm's search products and user experience VP, told eWeek that its search listings would start to include blog pages from this week or next. It's the first media type to be added since Google launched its Universal Search programme in May - an acknowledgement of blogs' growing popularity. It's also been seen as a response to recent search engine revamps by rivals Ask, Microsoft and Yahoo!. Mayer said that further innovations were planned as part of the scheme, which has already seen i

I read at John Chow's site how Google plans to take a few weeks to allow users to vote on search results. With this system, you as an individual could add, vote up, vote down, and remove individual Google results for various search queries. Unlike other voting systems like DIGG, however, your votes will only impact the results you see.
It's been said that were Google to allow your votes to impact the search results everybody sees, there'd be some way to abuse the system, and a whole new form of BlackHat SEO would emerge. Originally, I doubted Google would allow votes to impact the system as a whole. After all, if you clean up your own search results, who cares how other people's look, right?
But what if Google took all your votes, and began using them to tabulate Page Rank? A site aware of this could probably find large groups of people willing to vote on its behalf, artificially boosting its ratings. So even if the masses all vote on mostly helpful sites, the
Dramatic title I know but If Digg style voting on Google Search results becomes mainstream instead of experimental then I fear the end for Google.
Don’t get me wrong, this could be great from the iGoogle point of view allowing you to tailor your search results to suit yourself.
However, if Google decide to incorporate the data generated from iGoogle user voting into the ordinary search results (or worse incorporate the yes/no voting into the main Google search) it could result in a field day for spammers
Spammers, virus and malware peddlers and other such miscreants are generally organized and ahead of the curve. They’re certainly quick to find new ways to abuse a feature such as search result voting.
It’s not beyond any conceivable realm of possibility that one or a group of these nefarious types could organize enough iGoogle profiles to influence search results in their favor. The result being that you end up being sent to virus and malware laden pages instead of t

By Glenn Murray, Advertising Copywriter,Website Copywriter, Article PR Specialist As more and more businesses strive for a top ten Google ranking, it's becoming harder and harder to achieve. This is especially true for smaller businesses that simply don't have the budget for a big link popularity campaign. But hope may be just around the corner. If a top ten ranking for your primary keywords has been eluding you, then read on! Google manipulates the results Google is trialing an 'enhancement' to the way it displays its results. Instead of showing the top ten results for the exact words you enter, in the trial Google suggests three related results that you might want to check out. Where does it display these suggestions? It shunts (or replaces) results 6, 7 and 8 !!! In this article, I refer to these results as 'intruders'. To see some 'intruder' results in action, search for "piggy bank". Results 6, 7 and 8 are actually 'intruder' results; they're the top three results for t

About The War Pigs
Cheney And Satan!
Candidates In Two Thousand
And Eight, New Repukes
WAR PIGS
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!
Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!

Generally, to ensure you are ranking well you must have unique and targeted content for your audience. Here are a few tips that you can start focusing on to help improve your search engine ranking:
1. Start with careful consideration when selecting key terms that users will search on to find related content like yours. Then use those terms to guide the post and construction of your page.
2. It is more likely that users will click a link from a search that matches what they are looking for. Choose the terms that best match the perception of the article you are posting.
3. The meta-tag is a somewhat useful tool that when used accurately can prove to be useful for improving your search engine ranking for search results. Use the “description” meta-tag to give a compelling description that will draw users in for the search engine click. When selecting this description make sure that the title and description attract interest but also fits the content of your site.
4. Now the

In most cases websites like Wikipedia, About, Dmoz, Yahoo Directory, YouTube, Craigslist etc appear in Google search results. Google is experimenting with a new feature that lets you place custom web pages at the top of search results for some queries. If this feature doesn’t releases to everyone, no worry’s, there's a way to define custom results using Google Co-op's subscribed links.
You can define a list of web pages by creating a new Google Spreadsheet using this format:
the first row contains: # subscribed links TSV file
the second row contains: author
all the other rows should contain four columns: in the first column type item, the second column contains your query, the third column includes the web address and in the last column you could write a small description of the web page.
Then you should publish the spreadsheet, enable "automatically re-publish when changes are made", click on "more publishing options", select TXT from the drop-down and copy the URL. To add this file to Google Co-op, enter the URL here and choose a name for your subscribed links. Google will visit th

Introduction Once you’ve set up your blog and made sure it’s listed in Blog Search, you are probably interested in learning all about Blog Search and all the different things you can do with this neat combined function of Blogger and Google. One cool feature of Blog Search is that you can actually subscribe to Blog Search’s search results. What does this mean? Well, let’s say you have a particular topic or subject about which you are very passionate, and you’re always interested in what other blogs and bloggers have to say about it. This is essentially the primary function of Blog Search—to allow bloggers to search for other blogs and blog posts. Once you perform the search, a bunch of search results will come up. You may decide to tweak your keyword search or advanced options to get the search results you want. Once you do, instead of performing this exact same search every single time you want to be updated and informed of new content, you have the option of subs

Wondering how Google determines which blogs get listed the top of it's search results? Well, we now have a little insight into the process because of a patent filed by Google. Here's the positive aspects of a blog that will get your blog ranked higher:1. Links from Blogrolls or from other highly trusted bloggers2. Links from mails and chats3. Using tags to categorize your posts4. PageRank5. Feed subscriptions6. Number of clicks in search resultsHere are the negative qualities that will lower your blog rating:1. Posts that are added at predictable times (automated posts)2. If you have a lot of duplicate content3. Using words that appear in spam blogs4. Posts that are identical in size5. Linking to a single web page6. A blog with a ton of ads7. Different content between the site and the feedThis quality score is then mixed in with the relevancy score (IR), which looks at how many times the search terms appear in your blog (putting too many "search" words in your blog over an over will

Since launching ProductCritic last month, I've learned a lot from other bloggers about various terms and tools that you should use to optimize, improve, and gather information about your site or blog. What is SERP? It stands for Search Engine Results Pages. SERP tools help you gather information on where your site ranks on the search engines for various search terms. My favorite SERP tool is Shoemoney's Serps Script. It's really free, fast, has nothing extraneous, and works great for comparing where ProductCritic ranks against its competitors. I also use it to compare the rankings for ProducCritic against one of the largest technology review sites on the Internet....CNET.Not surprisingly, for a site that only launched a month ago, ProductCritic doesn't rank at all for the generic and most popular keyword searches like "digital camera review". What is surprising to me is that some of the "long tail" terms (I'll post a blog entry on short tails, long tails, and hittail next week) ran
Google Search Results I was working with a friend yesterday when I noticed that Google.dk was adding extra information to search results which was not showing up on Google.com and is now absent from Google.dk.
You can click the image left to see the screen grab I got of it. Unfortunately I didn’t get the grab yesterday when I was there, instead I got my friend to email the page to me. This screen shot is of the saved page which is why the Google logo is missing.
I’ve underlined the additional information in the image, and as a point of interest this information was not appearing next to every result!
For those of you who can’t read Danish, the extra text (on the first highlight) reads:
11 Besøg - 31/12/06
Besøg means visits. So essentially it says 11 visits - 31/12/06.
I’m not sure of the significance of the date. Is it the last day that the site was indexed by Google, or is it the last day that somebody clicked through to the site via a Google Search? Also, w
I thought I’d run a search for Wii Injuries and struck some interesting results. For some reason searching for “Wii Injuries” (which I’m now thinking could have resulted in some pretty disturbing stuff) yielded *almost* no Nintendo related results. In fact, the top two were actually animal injuries while the third and fourth were Marvel heroes The Black Widow and Corsair.
Random.
