One of the best strategies for long-term success in online marketing is through Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This strategy works to ensure that your website is attractive to search engines when they make a determination on the rank of your site within their pages based on various keyword searches.
On the other hand SEM is used to make your site listed in the advertising section of any search that uses your keywords. Essentially even if your website is not listed in the top ten or twenty on a search engine your site ca

Competition in the virtual world is as much of a cut-throat type as it is in the offline world. When accessibility to the Internet became easier for the public thanks to improvement in digital technology and a lowering of costs, a lot more people realized just how easy it would be to tap a few words to someone halfway across the world, than lick an envelope and post it. Search engine marketing or SEM harnessed the power of the Internet which relied heavily on the thirst for information requested by the billions of people who log online daily. Using Internet search engines as a planned and organized manner of marketing a website to the masses of web users was made possible by search engine marketing. Today, just about everyone uses the Internet, whether it is an e-mail to their mom or to

By Kalena Jordan (c) 2007 In this article, I'm going to try and debunk a few myths floating around the Internet about what's required to get your site visible in search engines. Here goes: Myth 1 - You need to buy a domain with keywords in it I'm sure you've seen them, domains like: www.paris-hilton-pink-diamond-dog-collars.com. For some weird reason, webmasters seem to think that they need to have a keyword-stuffed domain to do well in the search engines, the more hyphens the better. Well it just isn't true. In fact, Google spam evangelist Matt Cutts is known for warning against using over-stuffed keyword domains. If you have a look at one of the last sentences of this post of his he talks about possibly attracting Google's attention with keyword-filled domains and gives an (excessive) example. Could he be hinting that using ultra-keyworded domains may trip a filter of some kind? I think so. Myth 2 - You need to submit your site to 1000 search engines

Hindu has an interesting interview with Vivek Bhargava, CEO, Communicate2 which calls itself a paid search company. I have seen that there are a large number of Search Engine Marketeers(SEM) agencies and Search Engine Optimizers(SEO) in India however i wondered whether there is a market for these companies. I had earlier reported on how Search Engine Market in India is at about half a million searches a month which might seem big but is actually quite small when you compare it with USA which has 213 million queries per month and if you go with overoptimistic comscore data it is 61 billion queries per month globally(including eBay) then the realization comes that the market is quite big if you are looking at an outsourcing model .However coming back to Communicate2 it seems to have done a good work and i am quite interested in how they are targeting Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME's) in India. Globally if you look at the most high paying keywords its easily seen that they come f
Many times a client only looks at the bottom line when it comes to the performance they are getting for their investment into Search Engine Marketing. They often only look at the selected keyword phrases that they are paying for, without fully realizing what other residual effects they are receiving. When a site gets properly optimized, (SEO) it is being transformed into a thought-out navigational pattern to information. This is the same pattern a search engine spider looks for. Don't forget, the easier you make it for a spider to index your site, the better your chances are for getting your site a higher placement in the search engine results page (SERP's).While W3C validation is something all sites should strive for, it is not required for better rankings. Does it help? Probably. Yahoo engineers have stated that whether a site is W3C compliant or not makes no difference to how it ranks. If it has relevant content, it will get ranked.Another element when optimizing a site is that thro
Search engine marketing is emerging as a niche field of Internet marketing, as people have started using search engines predominantly to search for information.Search engine optimization (SEO) experts are now hired to increase the visibility of blogs and websites in Internet searches. Blogs that rank "high" in a Google search, for instance, would have higher chances of getting noticed by people. SEO experts are often skilled in web design, copy writing and Internet marketing.

In other words it helps in fine targeting its audience on a global scale at a minimal cost. The process of SEM involves bidding for the right words at a cost on major Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Baidu etc.Search results are better with greater number of key words. He talked for a half hour or so, and then proceeded to answer audience questions for at least another hour. As I sat there listening to him (yes, I actually listened to this one!), I was struck by what an awesome opportunity it was for everyone in that room to be provided with suchimportant information -- straight from Google. It was clear that the 100 or so people in the room agreed. In fact, at 7:30 on the dot, everyone spontaneously stopped their networking activities and simply took their seats without being asked to. These folks definitely came to hear Google! What Is Indexing?Dan started out his presentation discussing what "indexing" means and how Google goes about it. Is Search Engine Marketing Dying? The answer to that question is in the Next Question … Is online spending habits slowing down? The answer to both of those questions if you don’t already know is “NO”!
Its growing at a rapid rate. Now people are actually paying for virtual items online … approx. $1.5 billion each year! That means people are actually spending REAL money on “things” that have no tangible substance!
As Search Engine Marketers, our jobs are to optimize advertising to maximize revenue with minimal spend. We need to adapt to the market and adjust. Just like an animal in the wild … when it gets cold … you bundle up … when it’s hot … we shed … (you know what I mean!)

This week I had the honor of speaking at Search Engine Strategies in Toronto. While I was there, attending the other sessions, I had the opportunity to talk to some Canadian-based SEM specialists and find out the state of search engine marketing in Canada.First, the Canadian market is highly under utilized. Gord Hotchkiss gave a rant at the end of his presentation, Communities, Conversations and Connections: The New Reality of Marketing, at Yahoo sponsored breakfast on how Canada needs to get a clue about search engine marketing. He provided statistics that showed that Canada leads the pack on online usage at 40 hours per month, which is significantly more than the average US user at 29.4 hours. Even though 70% of Canadian households are wired into the internet and use it to research and buy products and services, Canadian businesses are only spending 6% of their advertising budget on Internet advertising.Okay, so if Canadian businesses aren't tapping into the Canadian market, what ab
Did you know that Retail e-commerce websites and shopping comparison sites are the most frequent users of Search Engine Marketing techniques, this has been recently proven by comScore.

Auction site eBay enjoyed up to 802 million sponsored link exposures with Shopping.com and Smarter.com totaling more than 350 million. The size of the numbers show the major importance of Search Engine Marketing to online retailers and e-commerce sites!
eBay owned a 4.1 percent share of sponsored link exposures alone!
Picking up the slack in the top 10 were Bizrate.com, Amazon.com, Dealtime.com, Shopzilla.com, Target.com, Nextag.com and Shop.com, with 5 of those being Shopping Comparison Engines!

Here, I'll talk about some of the most important steps needed to be done, for proper search engine marketing or optimization. These have proven to be the 2007 favoured SEO steps. First two steps are just a guide to the proper way of choosing your keywords.1- Perform a keyword research for your site, to come up with a list of good keywords of relevency to your site. Use a keyword research tool. Wordtracker is a famous one along with Overture. I personally favour another tool called KeywordElite, simply because it is supreme and also includes results from wordtracker and the rest. You can read about it here.2- Determine the competition using your research tool. You must come up with two or three keywords of your choice, that have high KEI factors. That means that they are searched for a good no. of times daily/ weekly, while at the same time don't have a lot of competition or sites using them.3- Now listen carefully... this is mid 2007 "compatible" lol... Include the keywords in the "t

For effective Search Engine Marketing,[tag] SEM and SEO, proper selection and use of Keywords / Keyphrases are critical to attract the most internet visitors possible, and to ultimately yield the most money from a web site. Search Engines like Google place a significant weighting on keywords. Proper Keyword selection and use can play a pivotal role in the ultimate success of an internet business.
3 Important factors of correct SEO keyword selection are;
Popularity: How often someone is searching for a your chosen keyphrase term?
Assessing the popularity of a particular search term is relatively easy with the use of the Free Overture Tool, which will give an approximation of the number of times people search for a given search term.
Relevance: Do the keywords chosen fit the theme of your site and respective pages?
Determining relevance is common sense. Evaluate your existing or planned content and ensure your chosen keyword terms exist or can be inserted into the existing content.

OK let me rephrase that, search ENGINE marketing is dying. Google is making it too hard for most new and even a few established websites to get noticed. Let’s face it, after spending thousands of dollars on a website, does a site owner really have the budget to hire an SEM firm to help them get decent Google placement, or the patience to wait the months it takes?

The Basics of Search MarketingYou are ready to go. You are motivated. You are just itching to dive into search marketing. But where do you start? The basics, that’s where. First, in Chapter 1, “Why Search Marketing Is Important . . . and Difficult,” we examine what search marketing is all about. We look at the way search usage is exploding and why search marketing is so valuable to your organization—how it can drive visitors to your Web site. You will be convinced that your Web site cannot ignore Web searchers any longer. But before being overcome by irrational exuberance, we also take a cold look at why some companies find search marketing so hard to do—and why the larger your Web site, the tougher it is. Building on that overview, Chapter 2, “How Search Engine works"dives into how search engines work—what happens when someone is looking for a word, where the results on the screen come from, and how your Web site can show up right on that search results page.
