As I reported two days ago, Al Sharpton is leading a City Wide Boycott of the Sean Bell verdict. He is calling on citizens of New York City to come together for a day of active protests throughout the city. Sharpton and the National Action Network have organized a citywide “pray in” in six locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn. The locations are as follows: 125Th Street and 3rd Ave, Park Avenue and 34Th Street, 60Th Street and 3rd Avenue, One Police Plaza, Varick and Houston Street, and in Brooklyn, House of the Lord Pentecostal Church located at 415 Atlantic Avenue. At each location, protesters are asked to get down on their knees in prayer, leading to a citywide slowdown. Hov has established an educational trust fund for Sean Bell's children, the man who NYPD gunned down on his way home from his bachelor party, the man who never got to marry his long term girlfriend, the man who's children are left fatherless. Typically, a trust fund is regarded as a long-term, profitable program that can provide significant monies that vest when a child becomes an adult or graduates from college. I think this is the best thing anyone could do for these girls who lost their father and their chance for growing up in a family union. Some more dismal news, the 3 officers in the Sean Bell trial were acquitted this morning.
