Geek Gift Ideas - Dec 14 (IOGEAR Digital Scribe)
How many times have you been to a large meeting and every person in the place is typing away at a laptop, tablet PC or handheld device to keep notes? I’m a software engineer so the meetings I have been too have been full of fairly technical people. However, this situation has never occurred to me in my lifetime. The most prominent note taking medium that I have ever seen is the ever ubiquitous yellow colored legal pad. Wouldn’t it be nice, though to have the comfort and familiarity of the legal pad with the convenience of accessing your notes digitally? Well, now you can! Not only legal pads, but any other note-taking surface you may be inclined to use. The IOGEAR Digital Scribe uses a combination of a capture device that clamps onto whatever you are writing on and a digital pen that uses regular ink to store your handwritten notes to a computer. Cool, eh? But that’s not all. The Digital Scribe can also act as a mouse making it a breeze to switch between applications

Interview: Why Hollywood’s Enraptured With ‘Juno’ Scribe Diablo Cody, Star Ellen Page
Editor’s note: This interview contains explicit language. Due to length, it is being published as a two-part series to be concluded shortly.CHICAGO – Diablo Cody fittingly ushered in her Chicago “Juno” junket in classic Diablo Cody style: The night prior, she blogged with brevity where she’d be kicking back and when.“Juno” screenwriter Diablo Cody.Photo credit: WireImage.comThough a frequenter of the German bar scene, the Red Lion in Lincoln Park was Thursday evening’s sanctuary with friends off the beaten press path. While legal in Canada at 20, “Juno” star Ellen Page wasn’t at Cody’s side until Friday.More than most, our interview especially paid no attention to the live recorder.Instead, the laissez-faire time morphed into a blunt and beguiling conversation replete with cunning perspective, quick-witted commentary, unexpected bloody fingers and all things “adamant” (Cody’s word of the day) and “slutty” (Page’s).Page came forthright out of the gate

‘The Mist’ Stars Scribe Stephen King, Marcia Gay Harden in Supporting Role
CHICAGO – It’s just a twist of fate, of course. I know the CGI wizards at The Weinstein Co. can’t command the weather in the real word, too. But – wow – what providence. The mist in Chicago on Nov. 20, 2007.Photo by Adam Fendelman, HollywoodChicago.comPerhaps the mistiest day of the year in Chicago came this Monday, which is exactly one day after I screened “The Mist”. I snapped the unaltered, almost zero-visibility photo below directly out of my condo window from 25 stories above street level. To make matters even more eerie, apparently the same mist blanketed Los Angeles on Monday. That’s auspicious publicity if I’ve ever seen it.Even before the real-world dusting, “The Mist” – which is based on a Stephen King novella and is directed by Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption,” “The Green Mile”) – already had a healthy hype machine. While Darabont stayed true to much of King’s story, he entirely ejected the master storyteller’s ending out the win

McG to Direct Fourth ‘Terminator’; Scribe Michael Ferris Launches Script-Submitting Site
On Friday, I received a tip from a new source stating that McG (born Joseph McGinty Nichol) will direct the fourth “Terminator” film, which is currently titled “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins”.We’ve since seen this confirmed with other news outlets and I’m now comfortably conveying it as true.“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”Photo credit: ILMSee below for my source’s full note. While the word is now out on McD and his association with the project, the Michael Ferris (one of the film’s screenwriters) mention is new and is particular interesting.I just wanted to send you a scoop for your movie news publication and add an extra tidbit I don’t think anyone else is reporting.McG officially signed on to direct “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” on [Thursday] night. Warner Bros. recently gave the film a green light and is looking to get filming in “early 2008” for a summer 2009 release. The script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris (“Termina

New Digital Scribe Pen Writes Directly to PC With Real Ink
New Digital Scribe Pen Writes Directly to PC With Real Ink: "If you think all things digital are magic, there’s now a digital pen gadget that might easily impress you. IOGEAR, a Southern California company, has brought out a digital pen and USB receiver combo to satisfy backup-obsessed scribes everywhere: it transmits personal notes written by hand on most surfaces, and copies them on your computer. There have been similar products recently, particularly with tablet PCs that use Microsoft OneNote’s Lasso feature, and allows formatting of digital writing and text conversion, though this will be the first one to use a separate ink pen. It also includes a handwriting conversion application called MyScript Notes that supports 10 different languages and can transfer your weird doodles, tables and drawings to digital form. A potentially cool feature could be the use of the Scribe when instant-messaging. Might it interpret enormous ‘LOL’s as huge smiling faces?According to the manufac

      Blogger Scribe Background
I've had some search hits about changing the backgrounds for the Scribe template and looking myself I never explain how you actually do it, so here's the magic formula for those who need a little help.Obviously start by finding the background(s) you want instead, you will need to find somewhere to host the image yourself online, you risk having a warning appear in place of your image if you just hotlink from somewhere or having no background image appear at all, then just follow the instructions. To change the original brown patterned background:1. Open Template and Edit HTML2. Find the following section of HTML template/* Defaults----------------------------------------------- */body {margin:0;padding:0;font-size: small;text-align:center;color:#29303b;line-height:1.3em;background:#483521 url("http://www.blogblog.com/scribe/bg.gif") repeat;}3. Edit the background url highlighted in red above to the image url want to use.4. Preview your template to ensure everything looks right and the

      The Scribe is Back
The Daily Scribe is back!!! I am not running a Scribe Jamboree today, but I am letting all of you know that it is back, with some changing leadership and transition in the near future. Head over there and create an account - it will be worth it. There are still great writers from all over the religious spectrum. The site is not about conversion, but about dialog. I believe so strongly in the concept of dialog. We cannot run away from those who hold to a different belief system than ourselves. We must engage with others. We must learn, me must become informed. So go head to The Daily Scribe. You will not regret it.

"The Daily Scribe: DELETED" (to be said in Strongbad's Voice)
I used to listen to all of Strongbad's emails online and found them at first to be ridiculously stupid, but after awhile, began to laugh uncontrollably while watching them. One episode I always enjoyed was Strongbad's spring cleaning when he would cry out "DELETED" when he deleted emails [link here]. As I read about Shawn Anthony's arbitrary and seemingly rash decision to simply delete The Daily Scribe writing project, after agreeing to a completely different way of handling the situation with the leadership of The Daily Scribe, I heard Strongbad's voice in the back of my head and pictured a similar scene as Shawn wiped away the past 6 months of conversations and history of the Daily Scribe as it was "DELETED!" I don't want this post to be a personal attack on Shawn or an attack on his personal religious beliefs. For those of you who want to know more about 'how it all went down' - read this post. Basically, Shawn found himself coming full-circle in his spiritual journey and ha

Tafsaret, A Rare Kind Of Sacred Scribe
Torah Of Chesed, Neshamah. The Hebrew word ishah (אישה), meaning woman, is thought to be derived from the root word anash (אנש), meaning to "cause weakness" [1]. However, the neshamah of ishah may come into revelation and expression through the root חשה, meaning "quiet" and/or "refrain from expression or movement" [2]. Supporting this is the consideration that the word חשאי (derived from the root חשה) means "silently" and contains the letters of the word ishah, except that the ה of ishah is a ח in the word "silently". Thus, ishah describes a situation where a "once silent woman" (unable to express Torah) becomes opened (ה

      End of the Scribe
[read update at bottom] Well that did not last long. The Daily Scribe has come to an end. Well, not quite. It was actually abruptly cut-off by the creator of the site - Shawn Anthony. If you are curious as to the reasons, you can view them here. But if you want to know what really went down, read what Colleen has to say. Hopefully something else will rise up out of this. The Daily Scribe was an interesting place with tremendous diversity of voices. Some did not like that. The diversity of voices also created tension between the some of the voices. Certain members of the Scribe did not feel that they could be sincere in their beliefs and be part of a collective of writers who may have contrasting beliefs. This issue did not bother me. I was able to learn from my Jewish, Unitarian Universalist, Buddhist, and Humanist friends. I did not need to agree with everything that they said in order to be part of a community with them. Others were unable to see past this. The Dai

      This Little Scribe Of Mine.

I know I'm partial, but the title alone is so cute it makes me want to cry. Like Kira, she types it out on her Mac and then emails it to family and friends. (If Kira is feeling territorial at all she's not letting on, although I did catch her Googling 'creative domain' and 'sister is a copycat' the other day.) If this keeps up I may have the t

Why NYT Scribe Tom Friedman is Wrong. Again.
Once again, New York Times columnist Tom Friedman has addressed automotive issues. This time, Friedman weighs-in on the ultra-cheap car being posited for the rapidly-growing Indian market. The gist of Friedman’s proposal: tax the stuffing out of the cheap car and put the money into mass-transit. Like most of Friedman’s auto-related rants, this one combines a handful of valid points, a couple of keen observations, a soupcon of knee-jerk utopianism and enough muddled thinking to make it impossible to support his views.
