Hello.I wanted to take a little bit of time during this joyous, no job having, broke as hell, about to lose your homes, your husband sleeping with a hermaphrodite-doing (because he figured he was still sort of just hanging with the guys, yet get his "ho, ho, ho" jollies in at the same time) to talk to my fellow citizens to discuss something that I feel is of vital importance (well, I thought it wa

Apparently, the supposed $160Million in donations from T. Boone Pickens to Oklahoma State University once hit $300M before crumbling to $ZERO$, today. What makes it worse is that the university has borrowed a whole lot of money against it as collateral... The US Senate has approved the US$700 billion bailout package to save the moribund financial sector from biting the dust. The contentious bill is expected to go back to the House of Representatives tomorrow for final approval by congressmen.
This is the biggest bailout in the history of America without which the economy could go under and into serious depression similar to the Great
Man, I complained yesterday when the market maker took the stock down from $1.99 to $1.86 after 4pm, but I didn't know how good I had it!! Today, he took it down from $1.77 to $1.55. Ouch! A new low for the day (by 15 cents!). That had a -$2,200 effect on my day. Before that, I was only down $900 on a day when the DOW fell 500 points, now it ends up that I finished down $3,100 instead. I am
So, yesterday I heard a farmer talking on a political commentary show, a call-in. They were primarily discussing the Canadian Wheat Board and "rural issues," mostly meaning farming issues. One farmer called in to complain about ducks, "specifically geese" "polluting" his crops and then how he suffers for it when he tries to sell his grain. I was already sort of amused at this point by his use of

It would have been fun to watch an overtime shootout between UW’s Jake Locker and BYU’s Max Hall. But we couldn’t do that because the Pac-10 had to show us once again how terrible their officiating crews are. With seconds left in the game and the Huskies down by a touchdown, Locker scrambled from the BYU 3-yard line and into the end zone for the score. An extra point would tie the game and we

For some strange reason, I cannot forget this obscure day in August 2003.I was with a friend of mine, Joe, and we had just gone from Kearny to Belleville to grab a bite to eat at, of all places, Taco Bell. When we headed over the Passaic to Belleville, just before we got to the bridge, we stopped at the little gas station next to what is now Dunkin Donuts — the former Pete’s Place. I filled up my tank, and it cost me about $19. The price: $1.33 per gallon of regular. After we came back, something stunning happened at that same gas station — the prices jumped — from $1.33 to $1.55. Who would have known that this very moment, a 20¢ jump in price for a gallon of gas, would be the first in a series of price spikes that would lead to where we are today. At first glance, that $1.55 seemed

Up until this point I thought if Barack Obama was the Democratic nominee he would beat John McCain in a landslide in November, and if Hillary Clinton was the Democratic nominee(which I think will happen) McCain wins in a landslide. Now with Hillary back in the race because of winning Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island her supporters are no longer demoralized. I expect Hillary to make a huge push to the Democratic nomination with the power of her many now fully fueled "Hillbots". As many have stated the longer this epic battle goes on the easier the battle will be for John McCain in November. I now think it's reached the point where the Democrats are officially screwed for November even if Obama is the Democratic nominee. Here are the reasons why I think this:The Democratic primary process will
Okay that may seem harsh but after reading this you may not think so.Granted I am not talking about those whom are using lifestyle changes consisting of diet and exercise, specifically low carbohydrate diets, but after reading this I wonder how many actually do.I am referring to this diabetes 2 case vignette, I was just reading on The New England Journal of Medicine website where doctors are given a case study for a 51 year old lady seeking advice on managing her diabetes. They are given 3 treatment options and are then asked to vote on and discuss these options.None of these options are lifestyle changes, not only that, out of all the replies, there's barely a mention, though I did see a couple of doctors question the pharmaceutical influence of these options. Low carb and weight loss thr
I've spent the last 8 years consciously saying NO.Even before Peanut was born, I tried very hard to preserve time for Pepper and I and Dr. V. to just chill out. To just BE, together. A big part of that is Dr. V.'s job, which is soul-sucking and so crucial I can't even talk flippantly about it here. After Peanut came along, it wasn't even a question. "What are you doing this weekend?" "Attempting to get some sleep, fold some laundry, and avoid a stomach flu!" The unsaid (O.k., sometimes said to really good friends) message was, "Don't call us, we'll call you. Oh! Wait! We won't call you! We'll be hiding out from the world and all the poor sick people with cancer!"Once Peanut came along, we had a new twist to our bunker mentality. Once he became mobile, all bets were off. It was no damn fu
This is a funny film, if you enjoy goofy humor that sometimes goes for a gross factor. Norm is hilarious. He gets mugged by a couple of 10-year-olds. DeVito is great as a disgusting morgue worker. His hands are all covered with blood and human waste, and then he absentmindedly touches his face, smearing the stuff on his chin! That was the sickest part of the movie, but I thought it was funny for how nasty and absurd it was. The rest of the jokes are pretty neat. Chappelle is funny too.I first saw this film before Sarah Silverman got her own show. It's interesting how Chappelle and Silverman both had shows on Comedy Central which involved similar gross out humor. I'd say "Screwed" has some elements of that, but in a modestly tasteful manner? Maybe... Most of it wasn't gross at al

Ok everybody! I have screwed up by playing around with my template. All my roomie, do follow attributes and blogger chicks widget and everything have been lost! That's what I get for trying to combine childcare, recipe troubleshooting and blogging! Please give me a day or so to reconstruct my blog and get it back to normal. Work with me y'all! I could use a little support if anybody could send it! Ouch.I was trying to install an odiogo wigdet and it seemed not to work on my old timey blogger template. So, I get smart and start to monkey around with templates about the time baby was having a mini meltdown and whammo a wrong button is pushed and all is lost. I apparently pushed a "switch to" button rather than my "gimme a preview" button. Well, I like the colors ok, so I'm going to try to make the blasted thing work. Pray for me y'all!
I think I just over committed myself.I went to a school meeting about a program Pepper was asked to participate in, and there were all these other moms there who have full time jobs and are studying for their degrees and caring for their demented elderly relatives and I told myself not to be such a wussy about over committing and I volunteered to be the "Team Manager."This is a big step for me, since I have purposefully held back getting heavily involved in any of the kid-type activities up until now. I learned through hard experience that life with Peanut was too erratic to commit to such things. There was one skating episode that nearly did me in, chasing him under the bleachers and putting him in time-out for repeatedly trying to escape out the door into the busy parking lot and trying not to scream my lungs out and not spending a minute watching Pepper perform for me.I've been feeling like my life is more under control the last few months, which I'm sure is what led me to this de

Peter Smith, over at the Huffington Post, wrote a post today which argued that the money being spent on the Iraq war is coming from my generation, which he dubbed "Generation Screwed", and he says we need to step up and do something about it. He concludes:To date, Generation Screwed has been fairly passive. It's only natural. They are young, and getting established in life. But from protests to caucuses and polling places, the time has come for them to join politically active Gen Y, X, and Baby Boomers in opposing the policies that will leave them (and the generations of Americans who will follow them) poorer and less competitive in a global economy. Hey, Generation Screwed. Let's go.Another self-righteous Baby Boomer. I'm so tired of this line. I am a member of "Generation Screwed", and I can tell you that we are well aware and plenty pissed that our future is being squandered right now. And the thing that really gets me is that articles like this have the audacity to tell us to
You may not have succeeded in everything you want yet. There might not be a romantic partner in your life. Money might be a little tight. But as long as you have integrity, consider yourself a success! Many people get ahead by being cutthroat. Others say what people want to hear to get more. People screw friends in order to steal their romantic partner. And still others sell a false bill of goods for personal gain. They might seem like they won, or benefited from their ruthless ways. But ultimately, they’re the losers. People around them know what they’re like. And eventually, it will come back to haunt them since what goes around really does come around. DoorMats are on the other side of the spectrum. They screw themselves in the name of being nice. That’s not having integrity either!I constantly hurt myself when I lived in DoorMatville! I’d cancel plans to help someone. Nice! Nice! Nice! I was always seeking a path to be nice by doing whatever people wanted, except for what I
"Rocktober" may have come to a halt in Denver at the moment. For those waiting for tickets and the opportunity to snatch them online, eh, you're screwed for now. From the Washington Post:DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies suspended World Series ticket sales Monday after overwhelming demand crashed their computer system."Right now we're shutting the system down," club spokesman Jay Alves announced outside Coors Field, drawing boos from fans. "We expect to be online at some point." "We're as frustrated and disappointed as they are," Alves said.Alves had said last week that the Rockies were prepared for any computer problems. On Monday, there were 8.5 million attempts to connect with the computers in the first 90 minutes after sales started, he said, and only several hundred tickets had been sold before the system had to be shut down. The Rockies put as many as 60,000 tickets up for sale online only, and team officials said their computers were ready to handle the expected crush. It seems like everyone that contacts me (generally through referral) has been burned at one point or another by their previous web designer, marketer, or SEO. The situation is always different, but the end result is always the same - and broken promises are all too common.
After months upon months of dealing with this under my new LLC (and 10 years of previous side work), I’ve drawn a couple of conclusions as to why this STILL happens.
How They Do It
The internet is still very much a cowboy industry. In the end, we’re all trying to make a buck at this thing, and there’s very little regulation on how to do so. I honestly feel that often times internet amateurs (I will not refer to them as professionals) will take advantage of their clients so that they can be lazy, yet still manage to pay the bills.
If I’ve managed to catch your attention, you might be wondering how they screw you?

Okay, the Customize.app is cool. It allows us, in theory, to change basically every component of the iPhone’s UI. Logo, banners, icons, you name it. So I decided to give this app a twirl and change my iPhone’s sound set. As I browsed through the sound sets available for download via Installer, the “UK English Woman” sound set caught my attention. I proceeded to install the sound set and made the dumbest mistake.
I FORGOT TO BACKUP MY SYSTEM SOUND SET!
This mistake became all the more painful later, as I found out. I sent a test SMS to myself and true enough, the custom sound set worked. But oh did it sound awful. I mean, seriously, I have heard better custom sounds (like Austin Power’s “Yeah Baby!” or the likes of it) than a British woman sounding like she had too much to drink and forced to speak.
And at this point I decided to revert the system to the iPhone’s default sound set. Er, wait a minute, did I backup my default sound set? N
When I heard yesterday that Bonds won't be coming back to the Giants next year, my initial thought was "Wow, sucks for Matt Cain, he's gonna get even less run support."But as I thought about it a little more, I realized this situation (obviously) is a lot bigger than Matt Cain's W-L record. The Giants' offense is pretty bad this year, even with Bonds. Here are the ages and VORPs of the Giants' most common lineup:Not only is this offense terrible, they're all old. The only guy under 32 is Frandsen, and he's just not very good. At 4.14 R/G, they are second to last in the NL.It gets worse though. The Giants have actually been really good with runners in scoring position this year- substantially better than in other situations. Here's the breakdown:Overall, the Giants have hit .250/.318/.383. It's extremely unlikely that they will be this clutch(/lucky) again next year. They have actually scored 633 runs, but a team with that line would only be expected to score 573 to thi
Britney Spears' cousin/assistant Alli Sims was served legal papers at 3 AM Sunday morning as she was leaving a house party in the Hollywood Hills. The documents state that Alli will be forced to testify in the ongoing custody battle between Britney and Kevin Federline and she'll have to discuss Britney's parenting skills, including whether or not she changes diapers and if she drinks too much.Britney's only hope is that the judge forgets to get Alli Sims sworn in. Because if Alli is forced to tell the truth, not only is Britney going to lose the kids, she'll probably end up in prison. Alli could take the stand and make up stories about Britney forcing her kids to sleep in beehives and it would still make her look better than the truth.

Oh yeah, that’s right. We made all the mistakes with her. We dropped her on her head a few too many times. We spoiled her, of course. We did a bit too much Attachment Parenting (she still shares the bed with us at night) — the shame, the therapy, the bills, the needless barking when her siblings are trying to nap. And my wife and I are painfully aware of it all. According to my wife she still tries to wear her down for “that” tube top and “those” Ugg boots.
Look at her picture, it’s obvious. She has a certain air about her; a certain sense of self-entitlement. That’s not how we wanted to raise her. We have tried everything. We have scoured the web for answers — to no avail.
Anyway, like all children, she’s a work-in-progress (and yes — we now know, we should have done the braces when she was a teenager; she is very self-conscious of the under-bite). I want to share with you some informative and entertaining links that
We are constantly screwing ourselves and we don’t even know it.
Of the 30 or so behaviour biases we tote around with us all day, at least 8 of them reinforce information we want to believe:
Bias blind spot — the tendency not to compensate for one’s own cognitive biases.
Choice-supportive bias — the tendency to remember one’s choices as better than they actually were.
Confirmation bias — the tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one’s preconceptions.
Framing by using a too narrow approach or description of the situation or issue.
Mere exposure effect — the tendency for people to express undue liking for things merely because they are familiar with them.
Post-purchase rationalization — the tendency to persuade oneself through rational argument that a purchase was a good value.

I lost my debit card, yesterday.
Did you read that? I lost my debit card!
Don’t worry. The bank has been notified and the card has been cancelled, so there’s no need to panic. Still, this loss is tragic for me. I mean, my debit card: Lost. Sure, they’ll send me a new one and I can use Dave’s debit card until then, but it’s sort of like taking my cousin to the prom because my date backed out. It’s just not the same.
I had a special relationship with my debit card. I can hardly remember life before it came along. Checks, bills, coins - I said good-bye to all of them after I met my debit card. It was so easy and convenient that soon, we did everything together. I didn’t go anywhere my debit card wasn’t welcome. I knew the number, the expiration date, even the three digit security card on the back by heart. I probably could have identified my card by touch alone. My fingertips had memorized the swipey groove I’d always tra
Well, well, well. According to The Times: “The decision by the Democratic majority to strip the measure of a timetable for troop withdrawal has raised the prospect that it could be approved mainly by Republicans with scattered Democrat support. The idea that many Democrats would be left on the losing side in a consequential vote has exposed a sharp divide within the party, drawn scorn from antiwar groups, confused the public and frustrated the party rank and file.” The president has said from day one that he will veto any funding bill with timelines or withdrawal dates; yet Democrats insisted on playing the game using it for all the propaganda points it was worth. Ironically, at one point during the debate regarding the imposition of strict deadlines to force Iraqi political progress, Iraqi national security adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie visited the U.S. and spoke with a number of our politicos. During talks between Carl Levin and al-Rubaie; Levin spoke forcefully of the
[Wednesday, 09 May, 2007]I worked until 4am and waked up at 9am. I was so tired that I continued to laze around on the bed even though I had planned to make my morning really meaningful.Later on, I waked up to find my certificates and even borrowed a tie from my brother. I went down to get the certificates photocopied and preceded to the Lippo Building, which was so near to my house. There was a sign asking all visitors to report to the security guard like any other office building but since I was wearing so formal, I tried to act like one of the workers and was alert enough to find the correct lift fast.I was brought to a room to fill in my particulars. It was a tedious job. Soon, I was given two sets of tests for they wanted to find out whether I was more suited to become a designer or content publisher. I checked my phone and realised Carol had replied me saying that I needed not wear a tie. I was quite lost while taking the tests for I had forgotten most of the stuffs I learnt duri
ScrewedThe American middle class is on its deathbed. Ordinary folks who put in a solid day’s work can no longer afford to buy a house, send their kids to college, or even get sick. If you are not a CEO, you are probably screwed.Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class is an impassioned, enlightened look at American society, this time focusing on the shrinking middle class. While the radical GOP extremists have been diverting the attention of America's middle class with demagogic, divisive emotional values issues, the Republican Party has been picking their pockets, reducing their opportunities, and dismantling their support systems. As the book illustrates, the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and the middle class is getting screwed. The Government Investor Class MarriageThe United States is in trouble. We're in danger of becoming a fascist dictatorship where big government and big business combine to rule, and where the people are considered just a s
