Al Gore might wind up in the candidate debates after all this year, but not as someone running for office. Gore and Arnold Schwarzenegger are working together on a bipartisan forum on climate change to held in New Hampshire in December. According to AP:
The forum, which is still in the planning stages, is being designed so presidential candidates from both parties will attend. Adam Mendelsohn, a spokesman for the governor, said the format was not completely developed, but the former vice president was handling the Democratic candidates, while Schwarzenegger would handle the Republicans.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California, has urged Republican presidential candidates to capture the political centre ground ahead of next year’s election by focusing on healthcare reform and education.
As the campaign has unfolded, leading candidates have drifted to the right to win support from social conservatives.
But in an interview with the Financial Times, Mr Schwarzenegger said the party’s candidates were “missing out on something” because televised debates had been dominated by questions about gay marriage, abortion and immigration.
Mr Schwarzenegger said candidates should challenge the questions they were asked in the debates. “Someone has to say: ‘We’ve talked enough about immigration, now I want to talk about healthcare reform’.” The candidates had to “move the agenda”, he said.

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that the Governator had a unique opportunity to push California even further into the forefront on green building and cleantech. The bills up for consideration would have made the USGBC's LEED-Gold standard a requirement for all new government buildings and boosted the minimum energy efficiency for residential construction.
Unfortunately, he elected not to sign those bills.
He did sign a number of green bills, including a couple that take half-steps toward the goal of pervasive green building in California. Most of the rest of his green legislation slate, however, dealt with other important topics, like water conservation and monitoring of toxic chemicals. So it was far from a defeat for those who want to see California continue to advance in green-ness.

Right now, three bills sit on his desk that could blaze a brand new trail for green building standards in the United States and help cement California's place in the lead on environmental issues. In a message that went up Monday on her MySpace page and reported in the New York Post, the hotel heiress writes (in her own spelling): “My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!”
The petition, directed to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, asks that Hilton be pardoned from her sentence of 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation by driving with a suspended license. The punishment was handed down in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday. An appeal has been filed.
“I urge all fans and supporters and all that are outraged by injustice to sign this petition,” writes Hilton.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, which were recorded in March 2006, reveals Republicans who are complaining about both Republican and Democratic lawmakers and were also showing sympathy for Mexican immigrants. However, they did mention in the tape that they should embrace the US.
One of the tapes has Arnold complaining about Fabian Nunez, who is the Democratic Assembly Speaker, saying that he is a “political operator” who says one thing in public but something else in private. He also talks about Senate President Pro Tem Perata, saying that he is “a very sick man.”
These recordings were found by Phil Angelides, a Democratic opponent of Arnold, campaign and the California Highway Patrol found nothing wrong with the how they obtained the audio files. They accessed these files through a public section on the governor’s web site.Â

The California Gubernatorial Debate has just finished. Unfortunately the debate did not receive the major California Media attention it should have. The only networks I found that broadcasted the debate was KCBS 2 and C-Span. Plus there was a whole lot of sports on tonight.
The debate proved to be not very exciting and the same information broadcasted in the commercial advertisements was repeated during the debate. The whole idea of the debate was supposed to be a ‘conversational debate.’ But of course no conversation came up because they each had their already memorized talking points to stick to.
If anybody asks, Angelides clearly won. He was very calm and gave reasonable answers, and he had a good time calling Arnold out on his actions.
