If you are a fan of DooWop and Rhythm & Blues Vocal Group Harmony (as I am), record collector, and/or musical scholar than I am sure you love to feast on knowledge such as discographies. The expert on this sort of thing is Robert Ferlingere. He has published 4 editions of his tome A Discography of Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll Vocal Groups: 1945-1965. The last edition was published in 2002 and was hardbound in two huge volumes. In the past five years there have been tons of additions and corrections made to Ferlingere's database and he does desire to publish a 5th edition which includes these. However before he will go to the printer he needs to have 100-125 prepaid orders. Each published product would cost between $100.00-$125.00 each. He wants to know

Indonesia: Muslim values in line with environmental concerns, say scholars
AKI - Scholars who met in the Indonesian capital Jakarta to discuss Islam and the environment, have concluded that Muslim values support Indonesia's efforts to face its environmental challenges. The dialogue was held on Wednesday at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) in cooperation with the British Embassy in Jakarta. The director of the Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences (IFEES) in England, Fazlun M. Khalid, said that in contrast to common misperceptions, Islam was more than a ritualistic religion; Islam also provided universal values that underlined the importance of maintaining a balanced interaction with nature. He said Islamic teachings helped position human beings as the khalifah or administrative deputies of God on earth."Ulemas in Indonesia are way ahead ... in translating the sharia into fatwa (religious edicts)," he said. Seattle's Blue Scholars Anounce 2 New EPs!
I was exposed to hiphop in high school and since then I couldn't ever listen to the radio garbage gangster rap ever again. The "it has a good beat" just does not cut it for me. "I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran's murderous activities," Bush said in a speech to US war veterans in Reno. Simultaneously, US forces raided a hotel in Baghdad and detained ten Iranians who according to a U.S.-funded radio station included members of an Iranian negotiation team. This move comes amidst a campaign by the White House to escalate the rhetorical war between Washington and Tehran, in which the President has taken concerted new steps toward war. This flurry of rhetoric has largely rung hollow in the halls of Congress, as members are away for summer recess. While Congress has been gone, the harshness and frequency of the rhetoric from both sides has steadily increased. Last week the Bush administration announced its intenti

And come September, all UCF students will have the chance to watch the Golden Knights football players in a 45,000-seat stadium just built at the back end of campus, where a new 10,000-seat basketball arena and concert venue also is ready for the masses. Pinoy Dream Academy Scholars, removed from ASAP 07
It's confirmed. Irish Fullerton, Panky Trinidad, Chad Peralta and Jay-R Siaboc will be no longer part of ASAP 07.This is due to a lot of violations they did especially during their US concerts. They gave the promoters/producers headaches- from drinking alcoholic beverages, to being unruly to their fans, to room swapping with co-scholars.Dream Big Productions want to teach them a lesson. Rumors are coming out that the management already released these four scholars. Some sources also confirmed the intimate relationships happening between Panky and Chad, & Irish and Jay-R.Only Yeng Constantion and Ronnie Liang will stay in ASAP 07 for they are the only scholars who behaved during their entire stint in US.

Blue Scholars to drop second LP On Rawkus Records + 2 New Tracks!
With one full-length album (Self-Titled, 2004) and an 8-song EP (The Long March, 2005) the Blue Scholars have emerged out of the erupting Northwest hip-hop scene with soulful beats, poetic yet political rhymes and a reputation for dynamic live performances. With their second full-length release, Bayani (listen to 2 new tracks-see below), due out on June 12, 2007 on MASSLINE in collaboration with the preeminent label of hip-hop’s glory age and the newly revitalized Rawkus Records, the torch bearing Seattle duo blends the personal and the political, unafraid to party in the process.Emcee Geologic and DJ/producer Sabzi come from vastly different musical approaches to experiment with a unique, new sound that still echoes the classic boom-bap of a bygone era (see: A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets). Prior to their collision, Geo had already begun making local rounds as a battle emcee and spoken-word poet, while Sabzi honed his skills as a classical and jazz-trained pianist while atte

Scholars and Historians Eagerly Await the New Year
At midnight on Dec. 31, hundreds of millions of pages of secret documents will be instantly declassified, including many F.B.I. cold war files on investigations of people suspected of being Communist sympathizers. After years of extensions sought by federal agencies behaving like college students facing a term paper, the end of 2006 means the government's first automatic declassification of records. Secret documents 25 years old or older will lose their classified status without so much as the stroke of a pen, unless agencies have sought exemptions on the ground that the material remains secret. Historians say the deadline, created in the Clinton administration but enforced, to the surprise of some scholars, by the secrecy-prone Bush administration, has had huge effects on public access, despite the large numbers of intelligence documents that have been exempted. This should reveal some illuminating never before revealed to the public. The C.I.A. has reviewed more than 100 milli

Overlooked Conclusions, Part One: Early Scholars Of Southern India
July, 1123 B.C.E., Naduvedina* : Two young and aspiring social scientists - who we will henceforth refer to, for reasons of classification, as Agath and Regral - in the interest of academia, decided to take apart a marriage in order to investigate what it is, precisely, that makes the phenomenon tick (or not - as could well, and did in fact, transpire). As such circumstances tend to behave, things didn't entirely go in the expected clockwork manner (and this expectation in itself may be construed as an able indication of the philosophies, mindsets and, by extension, prior successes, of the idealistic young subjects of our historical study). The resultant report by Agath and Regral, copies of which were found among Agath's remains at his family burial site, deemed the experiment a failure - if, indeed, such a conclusion may be regarded by an unprejudiced mind as logical or meritorious of institutional validation - and some of the blame, it is inferred, was placed on metho
