Big news around these parts.  I’m edging ever closer to a blogging milestone.  And what better way to celebrate than to host a giveaway?  But seeing as how I like to be different, this isn’t your typical ‘leave a comment and potentially win a prize’ type giveaway.  That’s too easy.  I’m going to require that

Most of the past contest I’ve held have been a scavenger hunt in some shape or form. I like scavenger hunts. They’re fun and they let me pretend for a while that I’m a pirate in search of some lost booty - even if it’s simply a red shoestring or a penny from 1973. But who [...]

Mix08 - Mixing it up with a Scavenger Hunt
The Flight Today I arrived in Las Vegas for the Mix 08 conference. After our airplane had taxied out to the tarmac for takeoff, the pilot informed us that since we were going to Las Vegas, our lucky number for the week would be 34. That was the number of planes in front of us on the tarmac waiting to take off. So we got to wait for an hour while all the traffic ahead of us took off. Ready, set, wait. The Hotel Got to the airport and to the Venetian Hotel just fine. Checked in, and the room was just as nice as last year, but they have upgraded it a bit. Everything looked shiny and new, and the CRT televisions were replaced with LCD TVs - three of them. One in the Sitting Room, one in the bedroom, and one in the bathroom (because you have to have a TV in the bathroom). Tested the wireless

fashion show: Rehabilitated scavenger women designers of Rajasthan
NEW DELHI: It was a fashion show for a noble cause. Leading models of the country sashayed down the ramp along with a group of rehabilitated scavenger women designers of Rajasthan at an event at the Embassy of Bulgaria here this past week. The joy of these women, who had created the saris and other colourful dresses that the models wore, was palpable as not too long ago they had resigned themselves to a life of drudgery and humiliation. And now they were rubbing shoulders with the glitterati and the spotlight was focused on them. The fashion extravaganza was organised by Sulabh International as part of the cultural evening. Under the tutelage of fashion designer Abdul Halder, the 12 rehabilitated scavenger women designers of Alwar in Rajasthan had created the mesmerising dresses. Accompanied by the women designers, the models — Indrani Dasgupta, Amanpreet Wahi, Mehar Bhasin and Sahwar Ali among others — draped in printed and crepe saris walked on the ramp with confidence a

      Scavenger Hunt- Day 4
      1) Find 2 blogs that are participating in the hunt that have something in common. This could technically have hundreds of answers and you can be as creative as you want. Make sure you post on both of them. Tell us what you found and what they have in common.I picked #'s 22 and 23 on the list. :) Firstly, they are right next to each other on the list, so that makes for something in common right there (lol), plus they are both participating in the scavenger hunt.;) They are both Momma's. They both visit 5minutesformom, and they are both a little crispy! :)2) State a fact about me, Amy. There are many on this blog. No duplicate answers can be allowed. This should be pretty easy!Amy is a nurse. :)

You don't need to leave the blog address, just the name listed and the number they are on the list.I picked Jessica, #85! :) Her Bon Jovi pic drew me right in. I'm a NJ girl. I grew up there. So that got me curious. My cousin, Danielle is a HUGE Bon Jovi fan, so reading her post made me think of Damielle, and how I need to email her back! LOL2)Find another participant that you have not read that participates in a daily meme. This is something like Monday Memories, Ten on Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, Fridays Feast or Saturdays Scavenger Hunt. Scavenger Hunts Go High Tech
If you like The Amazing Race, you'll love geocaching. Participants, like Rach use GPS devices (like the one pictured) and often traverse rocks, mountains and creeks to locate caches -- usually a stash of trinkets (coins, charms, notes & what have you) and clues to the next location -- that have been hidden by other geocachers. Several U.S. resorts, including Spring Creek Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and The Porches Inn in North Adams, Mass., even get in on the latest rage by lend guests GPS devices to do it. The fun is the hunt. You'll forget you're exercising while you're out on your own amazing race... and you can even get the kids in on the action!

It’s also the oldest preserved car of three test models they made. It was called “a stroller” and was inspired of French car models. It has a water-cooled engine and something called “planet gearbox”: two gears and one reverse. Power is transmitted to the back axle by means of a chain and universal driving shaft. © Lifecruiser (Herring, Stockholm, Sweden) Theme: Gross | Blogroll Info | Next week: Broken Almost the same as the gross Silver fish head I showed last week. But there is some difference actually. The Swedish word Gross is actually an old way to count: 1 dussin = 12 of anything 1 gross = 1 dussin dussin. Clear? *giggles* Gross is 12×12 = 144 is the right answer with other words. Later on we just started to use the word gross for something that comes in a big amount, not precisely 144 things of something. Grosshandel = Big volumes of merchandises, what you would call Wholesale I think. So this is Gross in two meanings. A lot of gross huh? *lol* Copyright © 2007 Lifecruiser. The Beginnings of a Scavenger Hunt
Every 9 days, a new Scavenger Hunt begins in the Artwork from Life forum on the Wetcavas website. Members sign up to host, and from January 20-28, it's my turn to play host and select the list items for the hunt. For those of you who would like to play along, the basic rules are: All items on the list must be sketched from life--not imagination nor photo references Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed to by unanimous vote among the participants You may place multiple objects together in a painting, and may count those objects as separate list items, but no single object can count for more than one list item. All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you sketch and post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26. You can do as many or as

Iguazu has 275 (!) waterfalls with an average height of 40 an 80 meters! Much more beautiful than The Niagara Falls! We were visiting Niagara the month before, so we really had it fresh in our memories for comparison. The Iguazu falls is situated in the beautiful Iguazu National Park, which has 67.000 hectars of tropical rainforest, so it really is out in the nature and not at a city area like Niagara falls. I think I have to write an own post about this fantastic trip later on… See it in pictures is not quite like in real life, but gives you a hint :-) Lifecruisers photos from Iguazu Falls Lifecruisers photos from Paraguay Lifecruisers photos from Brazil Copyright © 2007 Lifecruiser. Photo Scavenger Hunt Memory
~ Memory For Life~   Memory for life x 2 This is a photo of a road cross box up in the mountain at Crete in Greece, a memory for life - the life of someones near and dear one. Very often with a photo of the passed away person and a candle or some flowers inside it too. I didn’t get the chance to take any closeup of it since it were kind of dangerous to make a stop… Sadly enough we saw these kind of cross boxes EVERYWHERE up in the mountain and it was not hard to understand since these roads were very narrow and curved - up and down the mountains all the time. You can see the edge of the road there, no road fences almost anywhere… Phew! This trip to Crete was also another kind of memory for life for us, since it were our honeymoon and an unbelievable beautiful place to visit. We’ll hold it as one of our dearest memories for the rest of our life! © Lifecruiser (Crete, Greece 2004) NOTE: Every comment is equally welcome, even if youR

      Photo Scavenger Hunt ~ Memory
This is one of my absolute favorite photos and memory. It’s the day that Girlie Girl met Baby Bug for the very first time. She couldn’t wait to hold her new baby sister. ~ Happy New Year ~   [Hover to change picture!] New Gigglewater This is a new Champagne for us in Sweden, introduced recently in the liquor stores called Systembolaget. It’s also completely new to us, we’ve never tasted it anywhere else before either. And - the best of all - it will give us a lot of new giggles even if Dom Perignon still is my favorite! © Lifecruiser (Stockholm, Sweden) NOTE: Every comment is equally welcome, even if you’re not participating in this Photo Hunt-thing, we ♥ LOVE all comments :-) Join PSH blogroll Copyright © 2007 Lifecruiser. Last sketches of Scavenger Hunt 22---I'm done!
Click to enlarge image. Scavenger Hunt 22 (See my Dec. 20 post) contained a list of 26 items. These are the five I had left. I arranged them in a still life to finish up the hunt. They are sketched with a Uniball Vision pen and watercolors. The items are:22. Something cold: ice cube23. Puddle: The melted water from the ice cube24. Coaster: What the ice cube is resting on25. Cutlery: My favorite Henkle knife26. Something you dislike: Dead flowers! I'm glad that I managed to finish up all 26 items in spite of a heavy holiday schedule here. It's been a lot of fun to have this sketching break from the usual finished painting routine. With 14 coming for lunch tomorrow, it's likely that I won't be able to get any painting done until at least Thursday, but I hope to get back to the oils soon!

Scavenger Hunt three more items, almost finished!
These are all Prismacolor pencil in my 7x10" Canson Montval cold press watercolor book. Click on the image to enlarge it. These are items 19-21 of the 26-item scavenger hunt, so I've only five left to do by Wednesday to complete the hunt. (See my December 20 posting for more about the Scavenger Hunts.) Hopefully I'll be able to do at least a couple of paintings after that and before the New Year. The most challenging item by far in the hunt this week is to draw/paint a piece of crumpled foil. I put that one off about as long as possible, and you can see why; mine doesn't at all resemble crumpled foil. Actually, I crumpled it into the vague shape of a swan in the hope that if it didn't make it as crumpled foil, it could be loosely identified as a swan. Very loosely. Imaginatively. *smile* I'm giving up on that one for now, though I might throw in some gouache highlights and try to salvage it later. I'm looking forward to seeing what the other scavenger hunt participants do wit

Seven More Sketches from the Scavenger Hunt
Since I'm so busy through the holidays, I've joined an online sketching "Scavenger Hunt" this week, where participants draw as much as they can from a list of 26 items. At least I can keep doing a little artwork, without the pressure of having to turn out finished paintings every day. Sketching is such great practice, and I try to do a day of sketches at least once a month. These are all pen and ink with watercolor in my 7x10" Canson Montval Watercolor book. Click on the images to see larger versions. See the post from 12/20 for more information about the Scavenger Hunts.

      Photo Scavenger Hunt ~ Lines
This week’s theme is “lines”. I took this photo while I was driving to the Windward side of the island yesterday. It would have been a perfect picture if it wasn’t for the “lines” of the light posts.

A Scavenger Hunt of Sketches in ink, watercolor, acrylic
Click to view larger images. The Wetcanvas art website has a Scavenger Hunt that starts every 8 days. Since my time is so interrupted now with holiday goings-on, I figured I'd jump in there and do as much sketching as I can when I don't have a long block of time for oil painting. You can find the rules and the current list here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389272 Anybody is

      Photo Scavenger Hunt ~ Red
Grab the Scavenger Hunt code. Photo Theme. Join the blogroll. Visit participants. Since tonight is the U2 Vertigo Concert in Hawaii, I thought I’d use this photo to represent RED. It was taken at one of their concerts last year. Pretty cool, huh? Bono has also launched the Red Campaign to help raise funds for AIDS victims in Africa. Some of the corporations who have joined forces with him are: Motorola, iPod, Gap jeans, and Converse. Some famous celebrities have also signed on, such as Penelope Cruz, Steve Spielberg, Jennifer Garner, Oprah, Mary J. Blige, Chris Rock, Dakota Fanning, among others. Recently, I was reading the newly released book “U2 by U2” and found out some very interesting facts about the band. Did you know . . . The first American city that U2 performed in was New York? The band’s original name was Feedback? Bono’s idol is Bob Dylan? Bono’s first nickname, given by his family, was The Antichrist? In the 1981 video
