However, agile practices have been defined and recommended primarily to small teams. In Scaling Software Agility, Dean Leffingwell describes how agile methods can be applied to enterprise-class development.Part I provides an overview of the most common and effective agile methods.Part II describes seven best practices of agility that natively scale to the enterprise level.Part III describes an additional set of seven organizational capabilities that companies can master to achieve the full benefits of software agility on an enterpris

Adjusting the servings: Considerations for scaling a recipe
From MayoClinic.comSpecial to CNN.comAll recipes produce a specific number of servings — for example, six waffles or two dozen cookies. But what if you need more or less food? How do you change the recipe to fit your needs?Scaling a recipe — increasing or decreasing the amount of food a recipe produces — isn't as simple as it sounds. "It's a balance between art and science," says Jennifer K. Nelson, a registered dietitian at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. "Consider that there are thousands of different foods, millions of ways they're combined in varying amounts and numerous ways to cook them. All of these variables mean there are very few hard-and-fast rules."Though no strict guidelines govern how to scale a recipe, these practical considerations can help you adjust your recipes with

      Moving, Scaling Back
I'm moving at the end of this month. My new home will be considerably smaller and so my husband and I are forced to get rid of some of our stuff. A lot of the furniture and clothing and other still obviously useful items will go to Value Village. The trouble is, what do you do with things that have no obvious use anymore? For example, I recently broke my laundry hamper's frame. This is a product made of metal tubes and held together at the corners by plastic corner pieces. I broke the plastic corners on two corners. Now I have a series of metal tubes, the bag, and a piece of mesh material. I can see keeping the bag, maybe. I thought about trying to repair it. New connections could be made from metal at my husband's shop, but this isn't ideal. I could look for new plastic connections or impr

Scaling the summit of Mt. Batulao
Another surge of adrenaline! I climbed Mt. Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas together with the UP Med Outdoor Society. There was a 200-meter rock climb, about 60 to 70 degrees, to get to the peak. I felt I was hanging on for my dear life!Since I wanted to get as much sleep as I could (my lack of sleep during the past climbs proved deadly), I decided to meet up with the group at the jump-off point in Nasugbu giving me an extra two hours in bed and enough to fuel my adrenaline rush. The group took a bus to Nasugbu and got off at the entrance of the Evercrest Golf and Country Club. If you're familiar with Calaruega, that's the same entrance. We caught up with the group just as they got off the bus. And from there, the long hike up Batulao began.Instead of making a right to Calaruega, take the road

Market Comments - Scaling Back 20K
Good Morning to all of you and thanks for the overwhelming responses that have been put by all the readers. I am not in a hurry to restrict this blog but I will let you know the plans for restricting the blog.As I had mentioned in my comments yesterday that Bulls were in control of the situation and they had seized the iniative yesterday itself and with US Markets in green and rallying smartly on good economic data we should see Bulls scaling the 20K peak again. There are few investors who try doing lot of Analysis and calculations before they buy. They must remember that stock picking is an art and it is not restricted to the basic calculations alone. One should be able to see beyond the numbers and then decide on investing.GMR Infra is one stock where investment would not be possible if you look at the numbers. GMR Infra EPS for current year may be around 2 and if you see the price, the PE ratio will be 130+ and it is raring to touch 300 very soon once the GMR Energy IPO is finalised.

Squidoo and Scaling : The Business of Leveraging Human Capital
This Weekend, Squidoo released (it was found by nosy squidooers poking around the server) the test version of it’s new ‘doorway’ or ‘channel’ as it is being called. This new way to interact is being dubbed SquidWho, and is very impressive in it’s scope. Seth Godin and his team have truly begun to master the technique of creating scalable business models that just feed off of themselves. First there was Squidoo. This allowed any old person to create a ‘lens’ or miniature web page on whatever topic you like. You are the expert, you make the page. The infrastructure was so easy to use that over 70,000 100,000 people have registered accounts over the last two years. Squidoo splits revenue after overhead and 5% charity donation with the people building these lenses. Seth figured out a way to reduce the barrier to entry for web page design and make a platform that scaled well. Now Squid Who comes along and I’m really beginning to see som

Guild Wars and loot scaling. Has the balance been tipped?
This post may seem a bit late, and it is. I’ve held off on it to play the game a bit so I can give an honest opinion. Guild Wars has updated the loot drop system. Fewer “common” items drop if your party is smaller. Solo and small party farming is much different now. Sounds bad, [...]

      Font Scaling
Most tips that work with a standard part of a cocoa app (TextEdit, Mail), will work with any other cocoa app. Luckily, the font box is a fairly standard part of the UI, and luckily this means that you can use this tip with loads of applications. Most cocoa applications have the ability to scale fonts mathematically. This means that you can resize a selection of text containing different sizes while keeping the relative sizing between fonts. It also means that if you want all the text on a page a little bit bigger, instead of selecting each size and changing it a bit bigger (the 12 point to 14 point, the 16 point to 18 point etc.), you can just do it relatively.Select all the text in your document and open the Font panel ( Usually Format->Font->Show Fonts) and enter "*1.2" or another mathematical expression. The example given will multiply all font sizes by 1.2, but you can do anything, like "/2" to half the size, "*.0.75" to get 75% of the original size.Al
