It seems the Egyptian bloggers are not leading the change in their country only but also the Saudi bloggers have their share too. Blogging opened a new vent to Saudis to express themselves in a country and society that are from the oldest dictatorships in the Arab world. I think blogging came in the right time for Saudi younger generations just like us , a new vent especially for the young ladies. I will not going to speak more but I mention a little incident that shows that blogging can do something , can reach something socially. There is a Saudi female blogger called Hadeel , a novelist who is popular among the Saudi blogsphere ,this young lady from 10 days ago became very ill and entered a coma suddenly , her father the writer Mohamed El-Khadeif called the Saudi Red Crescent ambu

I love photographing during Springtime. Last weekend I made my first of what is hopefully to be several trips to local wildflower areas. There was some early goldenrod blooming in isolated patches, and I spent some time with my macro lens making images of individual buds. While I was looking around (and getting the aches out of my knees and hips from crouching for so long), I happened to see a ‘bug’ nestled deep within the swirling leaves of an emerging plant. Though I recently wrote a few posts about the types of photographs I don’t frequently take, and one of them was insects, I couldn’t resist trying my hand at capturing an image of the little guy. I liked the pattern and color of the leaves and thought the best approach would be to take an ‘environmental portrait’ rather

In LAN and WAN routers and switches are used to interconnect computers and servers. Switch is usually used for the internal network while the routers are used to connect different networks or LANs and WANs. Routers and switches are second layer devices in the OSI layer. They can make intelligent forwarding of the packets thereby saving the bandwidth. For example you have three computer A,B and C in one network and another computer say D in another computer network. If computer D wants to communicate with computer B, the packets(data) from D is exactly sent to computer B and not to A or C. That is current is passed from D to B only by the router or switch. It means that since no current is passed to A or C bandwidth is saved. The current is AC current which has some frequency. So what bandw

As readers of this blog know, the UK has had quite a string of security breaches over the past six months or so. And the biggest victims have been the various government services (and by extension, a boatful of regular UK joes. In a particular case, up to half the UK population fell victim to an information security breach).
The UK military was one of those affected. Due to continuing data breaches the UK military instituted a policy where laptop computers couldn’t be taken outside secure perimeters unless full disk encryption was employed. This, however, did not deter military personnel from ignoring said policy. An officer promptly lost an unencrypted laptop at a pub within two weeks.
However, there are signs that the UK military efforts are

Significant progress in mammography technology continues to help physicians diagnose breast cancer in its earlier stages. When coupled with new treatment options, early diagnosis through mammography screening can significantly improve a woman's chances of survival. That's good news because in the United States more than 200,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed each year.Mammography screening is the single most effective method of early detection. That's why an annual mammogram is recommended for women over 40. A clinical breast examination by a health care professional should also be done on a regular basis. Additionally, women can take charge of their own breast health by understanding their personal risks of the disease, performing a breast self-exam every month and repo

Mary Hartman, 91, slipped on a patch of ice as she was attempting to deliver cookies to a nearby neighbor.Hartman called for help, but it was a cry that only neighbor Judy Sawatzki's Jack Russell terrier mix, Taz, could hear."He would run to the window and come back to me," Sawatzki said. "He would whine and bark, and then go back to the window again."That's when Sawatzki let Taz outside, and the terrier mix shot down the driveway barking for her to follow. Taz led her to Hartman, who was crying for help on the icy driveway.
When it comes to heating costs, most of us are not lucky enough to live in a temperate area with a constant year-round climate, and instead have to contend with winter heating bills that can be exceptionally high. When evaluating alternative home heating, an option that is often overlooked is passive solar heating. You not only save money, but energy as well. Even on the coldest winter days, the sun's heat can be significant. It's only the shortness of the days that keeps the snows from melting. What if you could harness that heating power, even for the short time you get it, without making huge changes to the structure of your home? There is an answer to some of the heating costs. It's called the Trombe wall. It is made of material that is used for thermal mass, usually stone or concrete.

This past Tuesday saw the release of Laura Story's new album, Great God Who Saves. Since most of you have probably never heard her name before, let me give you some introductions. Laura Story originally wanted to conduct music before falling prey to the lure of writing/singing. She was with the band Silers Bald for most of a decade before setting off on her own. She's worked with artists like Andrew Peterson and written and co-written several familiar songs. Oh, yeah, she wrote that song "Indescribable" that Chris Tomlin sings. See, you do know her, don't ya?Great God Who Saves finds Story on her label debut with INO Records. Her music is a worshipful offering, in the vein of what one could expect from Twila Paris. The two most easily recognizable songs on the album are the aforeme

Michael Jackson has managed to save his Neverland ranch from being auctioned. The "Thriller" singer - whose 2,800 acre Californian estate was due to go under the hammer on March 19 unless he could raise a staggering $24.5 million - worked out a deal with Fortress Investment Group LLC to refinance the property. Jackson’s lawyer L. Londell McMillan said: "They’ve sorted out a confidential agreement. Neverland and Michael Jackson are fine." Fortress Investments originally loaned Jackson $300 million to pay off his debts and threatened to sell the property through a Santa Barbara real estate broker if it wasn’t sold at auction. Jackson hasn’t lived at the Neverland ranch since June 2005, when he moved to Bahrain. In 2006, authorities ordered the prope

Moko Playing in NZ, Photo: voyagemahia.co.nz You just might cry. Dolphins have a truly great history of love for their fellow creatures on this planet including humans. This is not ignorant chance behaviour, this is a creature who knew they needed help and helped a mother and baby. I love whales but sometimes I don't think they're very smart - I keep reading stories about them beaching themselves and stranding themselves. Anyway, this is a stranding story with a happy (and really quite remarkable) ending.
Two pygmy sperm whales had beached themselves on Mahia Beach on New Zealand's north island. Conservationists had managed to get them into the water, but they didn't appear able to take themselves back out to deeper water because of a sand bar in their path that seemed to be confusing them. The whales were tiring and it looked as though the efforts to save them were failing. They were facing a death sentence if things didn't change.
But then along came Flipper Moko, a friendly local dolphin who frequents the shores of that particular estuary. Proving that she is mo

Several sources are reporting that a CD and laptop from the British Home Office got sold on eBay. The Home Office, also known as the Home Department, is that part of the government responsible for internal affairs: security, crime, counter‑terrorism, border security, things of that nature. A complete list is available on Wikipedia, if you’re interested.
Fortunately, and some may point out it should be expected (but we know how that works out), both the laptop and CD were encrypted. But the circumstances under which they were found are troubling, and makes me wonder about the other information security breaches over the past six months.
A laptop was bought on eBay. The winner took the laptop to a service center because it wouldn’t work.

(Here is The Audio Version by Audio Acrobat:) Once upon a time there lived a goat named Gamba. He was very friendly and always made time to visit with his friends. When he was a young goat, his mother told him that it was important to treat other goats with kindness, no matter how they treated him. He loved his mother with all of his heart and always listened to what she said. Because Gamba listened to his mother, everybody he met thought that he was a very nice goat. He made very many friends this way and was very grateful. One day Gamba decided to visit with his friends in the city. They were a little wilder than the goats back on the farm, but Gamba always had fun when he was with them. They respected his wishes to keep tame and never let the fun get out of control. The launch of a new cache battery monitoring capability for QSystem Monitor is announced by CCSS on Tuesday, their IBM Server Proven performance monitoring and reporting solution. Unique to the market, the cache battery monitor means Systems Managers can save considerable time in checking the existing life for every cache battery in the system and any associated downtime linked to replacing them. During the course of typical processing, before data is written to disk, it is stored in the cache which is backed up by specialist batteries to keep the data viable in the event of unexpected downtime. When the batteries are near end of life, the system issues a message to alert operators to check the battery status and make an appointment for an IBM engineer to replace them. If this message is missed or ignored, for example when the message is issued out of hours or to a particularly stretched management team, batteries may fail and cause the system to begin writing data directly to disk
It's hard to imagine that good grooming could almost ruin a record attempt, but it actually happened to me a few days ago!
I was in the Dominican Republic on retreat with my meditation group and I decided to attempt the record for walking the fastest mile while spinning a hula hoop around the waist and simultaneously balancing a full pint milk bottle on the head. The bottle must remain balanced for the entire mile, and cannot be touched in any way to adjust it. I admit, the record is crazy but I love it. It actually requires tremendous concentration to keep the bottle balanced, especially while bystanders are laughing at you and traffic is whirring by!
What are 5 top tips for fashionistas who want to go green?
1. Whenever possible, buy products made with organic, sustainable, and/or reclaimed materials. This is particularly easy when shopping for layering basics like tank tops; American Apparel, for example, has some great organic items. But there are more and more online boutiques offering chic organic clothes - check out ShopModify.com and Fashion-Conscience.com! And Beau Soleil makes gorgeous organic cotton and bamboo dresses.2. Buy from small, up-and-coming designers. They usually craft and sew all the pieces themselves, which, unlike factory-made apparel , creates zero pollution. Etsy.com is a fantastic online resource, brimming with skilled designers. 3. Try to find products that give back to the community in some way. TOMS Shoes,

British Royal Navy officer narrowly averted a bad decision that could have ended up in friendly fatality. The Predator or Reaper UAV received clearance to engage in a section of troop which he believed were hostile forces, the officer then took it up on his self to cancel the engagement as the section were dressed in local attire and didn’t have the same walk, infact they were special forces. This slight mistake could have been a fatal one which may have had serious consequences.
In my opinion is it not about time all the military forces started using safety measures, I mean I understand the pressure of a conflict and been contacted by an enemy force can be fast and aggressive but and sometimes a rapid decision needs to be made but certain measures should be undertaken to prevent friendly fire incidents.

Colon cancer testing saves lives each and every year. But did you know that half of those that currently die from the disease could be saved if only they have a routine test?

There are two ways that doing your own demolition goes down:
1. It goes great – Everything goes well, nothing gets broken that shouldn’t be, and no one gets hurt. This is the best case scenario when you are playing demolition man.
2. It goes brutally – Someone gets hurt, something gets broken, and generally mistakes are made. The long-term implications of your actions aren’t completely clear, though it was pretty obvious when your kitchen cabinets fell from the roof because the bracing had been tampered with (read: severed by an errant jigsaw).
As you can see, demolition obviously isn’t as easy as swinging a sledge hammer and hoping that you hit a wall. It’s about careful planning, flawless execution, and attention to detail. It’s also about getting the job done without getting hurt.
Having Them Do It vs. You Doing It
Many people opt to do their own demolition because they think that it saves them money. In some cases this may very well be true, but in actuality it

We will be getting phones in all shapes and sizes and price ranges that will carry the software. That means that all types of people are now potential buyers of the product.

I would have said about 6 feet (1.8m)," said Ms Palethorpe, who lives alone on the land she has owned for 30 years."I couldn't have got away from it. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her (Tess)."The snake was lying on a rock and it saw me the same time I saw it. It reared up and just went for me."I just screamed a

Vodka drip saves poisoned Italian, and no hangover Sydney, Australia 10 October 2007 09:11 Australian doctors used an intravenous feed of vodka to keep an Italian tourist alive after he consumed large quantities of a poisonous substance. The 24-year-old man, in an apparent bid at self-harm, had swallowed ethylene glycol, found in antifreeze, which can cause death. Doctors administered pure alcohol, the conventional antidote, but exhausted the hospital's supply.Desperate to continue the treatment the doctors at Mackay Base Hospital in Queensland state hooked up an intravenous feed of vodka, hospital officials said."The patient was drip-fed about three standard drinks an hour for three days in the intensive care unit," Dr Todd Fraser said in a statement on Wednesday."Fortunately for him he was in a medically induced coma for a good portion of that. By the time he woke up I think his hangover would have well and truly gone," Fraser said."The hospital's administrators were also very und
GeoPic II geotags your Nikon shots, saves on battery>Geotagging kind of loses its appeal when it's cutting your battery life to ribbons, which is where GeoPic II comes in. The unit slides into your DSLR's hot shoe and embeds GPS information off of a SiRFstar III chip onto your photo's meta data, just like the competition, but what sets the GeoPic II apart is that in comparison to its predecessor, the unit get three times as much battery life, allowing you to tag a good many more photos. The device accomplishes this by only streaming GPS data to the camera when needed, which sounds like a given, but apparently took a good bit of R&D to pull off. There's no telling how this tech compares in power savings to NXP's swGPS, which was built with a similar purpose, but GeoPic II is available now for £200 ($408 US), while swGPS hasn't quite made it out of the labs just yet. GeoPic II is compatible with most Nikon DSLRs and the Fuji S5 Pro.(Via Engadget.)
