Ambush of the unwary on the African Savannah Updated September 6, 2007 No other cat in Africa knows the value of team work like the African lion. A lion pride is often made up of one or two male lions and several female who are often related, pride sisters. These pride sisters often work together during hunts and even raise their young together. This team work is best seen during hunting. One or two lionesses will often crouch low in the grass waiting for the other members of the pride to drive a warthog, zebra or even wildebeest towards them. Other times lionesses will position themselves at different points of the intended preys path and takes turns in chasing the prey. This approach is often very effective in chasing prey that are very fast the likes of warthogs but have poor eye sight and hence are not able to see the lion ambush. Part three of our vacation recap takes us to Savannah, G.A. It was our first time visiting the city. Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of time to explore. We mostly toured River and Bay Streets, down by the river. We really, really liked Savannah a lot. Although pushing a stroller around on the cobblestone River Street wasn't easy. A few times I had to carry the stroller with Zane in it.We had lunch at a New Orleans restaurant on River Street. The food was good. Zane through his cup at a mad sitting at the table across from us. I was embarrassed, but the man played along with Zane like it was no big deal.I also got my very first parking ticket ever in Savannah. We were about 15 minutes late getting back to the car, which was parked at a meter. The ticket is only $10. Here's some pics from the trip.Rothfamilyadventures.com

Oh sweet Savannah, order me some more pralines, preferably the dark chocolate ones. Delicious! Savannah was a good stop. My hosts were Sharon, Mel, Amber and Chris. In other cultures and centuries ago it was common for younger couples to live with other family members early on their marriage. In todays culture its rare, very rare. Most people get married and flee off to their own place. Amber and Chris have been married for only a few weeks and are living with Ambers grandparents Sharon and Mel. The connection in this instance is that Sharons sister is one of my mothers best friends. I was staying with a few Yoopers! Mel was willing to share lots of stories from Vietnam and his time in the Air Force, which was quite fantastic to listen to. I enjoyed it, good stories!

Few locals know that approximately 15 miles below the rapids of the Savannah River, near the opening of Butler Creek, lies the forgotten remains of New Savannah Georgia.
In 1740, a tribe of Chickasaw Indians led by Chief Squirrel King moved from the Horse Creek Valley of what is now Aiken County in South Carolina. They chose to settle on the Georgia side of the river. Mostly peaceful farmers, by the start of the Revolution the tiny Indian town had a population of approximately 150 individuals.
As the Revolution closed a tobacco inspection station was set up in New Savannah. Leaf grown in the surrounding areas of Richland County and the Edgefield District (present day Aiken County) was packed in wooded barrels and transported to the town. The Georgia leaf arrived via Tobacco Road (hence the origin of the present day road) en route to the small hamlet. After inspection the barrels were sent downstream to the port of Savannah by barge.
