Another Avia, this one is deep purple in color and has a woodsy aroma that is faintly sweet. The flavor is unbalanced, first not tasting like much then turning into a small blast of tannins, salami and oak. Not much complexity, [...]

This was an excellent wine for a Shabbat meal. The wine was very flavorful; I noted the dark berry flavors, and even some hints of the “leather” that the winemaker noted on the bottle.

This cheap wine is a delicious wine for the price ($4.79!). This Argentinian wine really has more to offer than you would expect from a wine that costs less than 5 dollars.

This is an excellent wine at a bargain price. The flavor is good, with a pleasant nose of fruit and vanilla, and the high alcohol content gives it some good bite.

The History of Cabernet Sauvignon is actually less than six hundred years old which makes it a relative newcomer to the world of wine grapes. The tannins are well integrated, but still has that tart edge that you would expect for its youth. We really enjoyed this fruity, earthy cab with good spice and oak, showing of its elegant side on the finish. Another half bottle from my local grocery store that I had to try... The 375 ml bottles are convenient and perfect when you just want a glass of wine and don't want to pop open a whole, 750 ml, bottle. The Amador Foothill Winery 2005 Shenandoah Valley Sauvignon Blanc is made from 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. It has a golden, light, straw color in the glass, and the nose shows prominently apple, but also citrus and green pear. The wine has a round mouth feel with apple, citrus, slight spice, and touch of minerals. The finish is long and carries good acidity. The very round mouth feel made this wine feel slightly to rich for my preference, considering it is a Sauvignon Blanc. I prefer a more lighter and crisper style. However if this is not the case for you I would deem this to be a goo
I went over to my neighbors last night to give them some homemade Christmas treats and I got a treat right back in form of a glass of Robert Craig 2002 Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.I have had the Robert Craig Affinity (their Bordeaux blend) at several occasions before and always enjoyed it, but this wine was definitely a notch up.The color in the glass is a deep red garnet color. Big ripe berries, black cherry and black currant meets you at the nose with oak and vanilla notes. The palate is equally lush with dark berries, black currant, and a long finish with violet candy, black liquorice notes, and supple, well integrated tannins with matching acidity. This was a really good glass of wine and as soon as I finished my glass I wished I had a bottle waiting at home. The quality of the wine very much matches the price tag; available from $60 at Wine-Searcher.com. I would happily spend my money on this wine any day.Vote for my blog here and help me reach top 10 on The Blog Top

Being from Sweden with our heritage of Norse Gods and Valhalla I just had to try this wine that I had never heard of before. They are small producers that buy grapes from top vineyards in areas that produce the best quality grapes for the wine they intend to produce. This wine was fermented in open top fermenters with the cap punched down 3 times daily. It was then aged for 21 months in 60% new and 40% two year old French Oak. Only 70 cases produced. The wine has a very dark dense ruby color in the glass with slight cloudiness. Red cherry, dark red currant, liquorice and vanilla meets you on the nose. It is relatively smooth on the palate with red fruit,

Going to Las Vegas last weekend our flight out of Sacramento was delayed for 4 hours, which gave us plenty of time to kill in the airport's wine bar, Vino Volo. Vino Volo is a chain of airport wine bars with five current locations; Seattle, Sacramento, Washington DC, Baltimore and New York, and with plans to expand and open many more locations in the upcoming year.Having the option to visit Vino Volo made me very excited as airport food and drinks, in general, gives me the shivers... Vino Volo adds a touch of sophistication with good quality wine by flight, glass or bottle. Small plates are also served. We tried the cheese plate, chicken panini and the New York skewers with mashed potatoes and peas. All a step above all other airport food I have ever had. Before summer comes to an end it's time to try a couple of more Sauvignon Blanc. Last night we opened a WhiteHaven 2006 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The nose is vibrant of citrus, under ripe white peach, and hints of grass. The palate is equally pungent with apple, citrus and kiwi, with really nice acidity. We got half a case of the Plumpjack Estate 1999 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon at their winery in Napa Valley when it was first released, and after drinking all of them but one bottle during the first two years it was now time to have the last bottle. On the palate, black currant, spice, and earthy mushrooms. It still has nice dark fruit and berries, and surprisingly high in tannins. When we went up to El Dorado wine country in April earlier this spring I picked up a bottle of this Sauvignon Blanc at the Terre Rouge/Easton winery. Tonight, beeing Friday night, BBQing in the backyard, I thought this would be a great wine to start with as the food is cooking. I reviewed this wine briefly before, after our wine trip. Today I will go a little more into detail. This wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in neutral French oak on the lees for 9 months. The majority of Sauvignon Blanc are aged in stainless steel to keep it clean and crisp. The oak, in this case, gives this wine a certain creaminess. It did however not go through malolactic fermentation which gives it the characteristic crispness we usually see in Sauvignon Blanc. This wine has a clear, light straw color in the glass. On the nose light tropical fruit, pear, citrus and a hint of butter scotch vanilla. On the palate there is citrus, light peach and pear, with a slight round creaminess o

Now, I definitely don’t mean I don’t want to drink any Sauvignon Blanc; it’s usually one of my favorite whites. The name of the wine I drank the other night was the 2004 NO Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit came from Lake County and the NO Vineyards and Winery reside in Healdsburg, according to the label, but in my brief time online, I couldn’t find a website. I bought this bottle a few months ago at K & L for $6.99 and wasn’t sure if it would be any good. But the back label sounded right up my alley: ” NO oak aging. NO cork. NO malolactic fermentation. NO attitude. NO kidding.” Just how I like SB.
This one I had with my trusty salad of crabmeat, grapefruit, and goat cheese (no avocado, sadly). The wine itself seemed to have the smell of too much sulfur at first, but once that blew off, I found grapefruit, grass, and a touch of cat pee. On the palate, there was more grapefruit, along with lemon and pineapple. Not my favorite Sauvignon Blanc
The Summerland Winery 2006 Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc has a very pale, brilliant, straw color in the glass. Stick your nose in the glass and discover tropical fruit, white peach and citrus. On the palate a milder citrus with sweet pear and the tropical fruit again. The finish is clean and fresh with uplifting, crisp acidity. A not to shabby Sauvignon Blanc.I got this at BevMo's 5 cent sale, which means that you buy one bottle for full price and get the second for 5 cents. So, I basically got this bottle for $ 8 ($15.99/bottle when not on sale). I say that is a very attractive price for a decent bottle. This would be a great crowd pleaser for that big summer BBQ, when you want to serve something good that won't brake the bank.Find it online at Wine-Searcher.com from $12.60.Vote for my blog here and help me reach top 10 on The Blog TopI am now in top 12!

Tonight I served a Roasted Beet, Fennel and Goat Cheese Salad with the Long Meadow Ranch 2006 Rutherford Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, a match seemed to be made in heaven. The freshness of the SB went perfect with the sweet roasted beets, the tanginess of the goat cheese, and the acidity of the citrus in the vinaigrette. Mmm...The 2006 LMR Sauvignon Blanc has a beautiful, very pale straw color in the glass. On the nose, crisp apple and pear. The apple follows through to the palate with some citrus and tropical fruit. This wine is round and full bodied in the mouth but still possesses that refreshing taste you want from a SB. I had the 2005 last year and thought it was great, and the 2006 is right up there with it. A perfect wine with a light seafood dish or salad this summer.Find it at LongMeadowRanch.com for $18.Vote for my blog here and help me reach top 10 on The Blog TopI am now in top 15!
Sometimes when choosing a wine to go with a meal, it’s not about the main ingredient so much as everything that surrounds it. When I decided to make a portobello sandwich, my initial choice would have been a Pinot Noir or an Italian red. But with the preparation of roasted red peppers and chive goat cheese, I decided to go for my old stand-by of Sauvignon Blanc, especially since the mushroom was marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette. And when coupled with a simple salad with olives, tomatoes, garlic, and oil & vinegar, the pairing was just right.
The wine: 2005 Giesen Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough in New Zealand, one of my favorite places for SB. (Usually not too expensive–this one was $10) On the nose, grapefruit and freshly cut grass. Upon tasting, more yummy grapefruit, pomegranate, and dill. As expected, very crisp and acidic, which worked well to cut through the goat cheese and stand up to the salad. The slightly vegetal quality was complemented by the re
FELIZ DÍA A TODAS!!! I got this bottle of wine after reading about it in the "Special Best of Year Issue" Wine Enthusiast Magazine. With a rating of 91 points, and ranking 27 in their list of Top 100 Best Buys of 2006, at the modest price of $12.99 (at BevMo), I had some rather high expectations on this wine.Very pale in the glass. Hard to detect the aroma. Was it to cold? I let the glass heat up in my cupped hands for quite a while. A new try. A very shy, but fresh, nose with hints of pineapple and tropical fruit. Time to taste. Again, hard to detect flavors. Some tropical fruit, some minerals but overall just plain. Was there something wrong with my bottle? It didn't seem corked to me, and the cork had not been bleeding... Maybe it was in a so-called closed/dumb stage?I was very disappointed in this wine. Not bad tasting, just not tasting at all... I vacuum pumped it and tasted in for three consecutive days. All with the same result.Maybe I totally missed something here. Maybe it is supposed to be so d
Cousino-Macul is a Chilean winery that just celebrated 150 years in 2006, and is still 100% family owned (by the same family through the years). All wines are estate grown, estate vined and estate bottled, and they take extreme pride in this fact. This Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% grapes from the Maipo Valley, and has been made that way since 1926.The wine has a dark, thick inky/red/purple color in the glass. Tons of black currant on the nose with dark fruit, black cherries, and some vanilla oak. It is dark and dense on the palate with black berries/fruit and medium tannins that gives it a nice round finish.I got this at BevMo at sale for $10.99. At http://www.wine-searcher.com/ and http://www.winezap.com/ you can find it from $9.97.This was a nice wine for a good price. Will I buy it again? Hmmm, maybe as a crowd pleaser...
Before reviewing the Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon, I’d never heard about the Wrattonbully wine region. So before opening the bottle did a little research and I found that the relatively unknown Wrattonbully wine region is located in South Australian between the Padthaway and Coonawarra wine regions. Apparently according to Wine Australia, there is very little variation in the wines across the three regions.
The Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is a full bodied wine with distinct berry and blackcurrant notes and oak flavour. The grapes are nurtured by renowned Coonawarra district viticulturist, Greg Koch and made by ex-Wynns Coonawarra/Southcorp legend, Rob Moody. Greg and Rob first became involved in the production of Picarus with the highly acclaimed 2005 wines.
Picarus recommend that the 2006 Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to drink now, but will be in its prime in 5-7 years.
The Picarus brand is Winetrust Estate’s premium wi
