More photos from the now ended Sarasota Film Festival are now available for viewing on Elevation. (There are four of Jennifer Ehle). As is evident, there is more pretty green florality from the Luncheon Under The Banyans, and then some pretty blue dottiness from the World Cinema Celebration. See the website for another variation on the latter.Pictured with Ms Ehle are Before the Rains producer Mark Burton (Photo 2) and Rosemary Harris and producer/actor/director Norman Lloyd (Photo 3). Press-wise, the Sarasota Herald Tribune report seeing a certain 'young, blond, talented actress' at the Liv Ullmann tribute luncheon, while the official Sarasota Film Festival website lists both Rosemary Harris and Ms Ehle as attendees of the ten-day event.Ashok R. The Today's Baby Sarasota Convertible Crib is one of the outstanding convertible cribs to be featured. It is a crib which is a 4-in-1 as it easily converts from crib to toddler bed to day bed and finally full size bed. An outstanding feature of the convertible baby crib is its solid birch design. Convertible cribs certainly need to be durable and the Sarasota from Today's Baby is just that.

I updated my Downtown Sarasota Condo sold page. Now you can see compare 2006 and 2007 sales in most of the condos in the downtown area. I received a few emails from some readers who wanted to see how much prices have dropped in the downtown Sarasota condo market.
I had a request from my blog reader Todd for the latest inventory levels. He requested inventories for October, November and December. Unfortunately, our MLS system does not allow us to go back in time like that so I can only give today's numbers.
If you look at the right side of this page you will see a log of Sarasota home and condo inventory levels. The latest figures from the Sarasota MLS
DALLAS – Sarasota, Fla., has the ugliest house in America. That’s according to thousands of people who voted online at www.theugliesthouse.com in HomeVestors’ ‘Ugliest House of the Year’ contest. The results were revealed today at the company’s annual convention at the Hilton Hotel at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
“People know us for our famous ‘We Buy Ugly Houses’® billboards, and this contest is proof that we mean what we say,” said John Hayes, president and CEO of HomeVestors of America.
The winner of the contest was a home at 1916 32nd Street in Sarasota. It was bought by HomeVestors franchisee Gregory Weinstein of Goldmine Properties, LLC.
“The filth, trash and remnants from squatters left this house totally repulsive and a menace to the community,” said Weinstein. To remove all “tenants,” Weinstein was forced to enlist the help of local law e

Looking for your next dream home? Search through thousands of properties using my Sarasota MLS listing search. This is not the actual multiple listing service that Realtors use. This search does show almost all of the properties for sale on the Sarasota multiple listing service (Sarasota MLS). Although, my domain name is thesarasotamls.com. My website is obviously not the Sarasota MLS system.
Here is an interesting podcast from Harold Bubil and local real estate investor and author John Schaub. John talks about the current market conditions and why he feels it is a great time to be buyer in Sarasota if you are a long term investor or end user. John has been in the real estate business a long time and is very knowledgable about this market.
The chart above represents the inventory levels of single family homes in Sarasota county. As you can see the latest inventory numbers from August don't show much of a decline in the number of homes for sale.
Here are the latest condominium figures for Sarasota county. The drop off off inventory since the high of April 2007 is a little more obvious here. Keep your fingers crossed for more
MOTE Marine Laboratory was really fun for the kids. They dissected a squid, pet local stingrays, oggled hammerheads, heard all about the giant squid while leaning on the sarcophagus where it's shrunken and alarmingly awful looking carcass lies in state. They did the stupid penny squishing thing. We bought badges. I'm going to make a field trip and activity pillow for each of them for this year's things. It was a four hour drive round trip. They played a dino card game. Baby mostly slept or ate. I was tired, but made it.I feel so jaded. My dominating thought was they should get over their apparent aversion to a proper renovation overseen by actual museum exhibit designers. It's the Aquarium's 50th anniversary and it shows. I say it's time to get some grants and corporate sponsors with deep pockets and overhaul the place. They've got tons of space, but it's so poorly used. They do such great work, but they're doing it in a place Jacques Cousteau would think was state-of-the art.T
The Sarasota Herald Tribune had an interesting article about how a group of Sarasota landlords is requesting a recall of Sarasota city commissioners. The Sarasota Landlords' Association is seeking to remove the commissioners because on July 19 they voted unanimously to override the new property tax rollback rules established only a month earlier in a special legislative session.

Good news - June 2007 home sales were up in Sarasota/Bradenton when compared to June 2006. Sales were 5% higher last month than from a year before. The rest of Florida did not make out so well. Only two real estate markets in Florida showed sales increases year over year from June 2006 to June 2007.
Are we bottoming out or is just an anomaly? I would be interested to hear your comments.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported an article this morning titled, "Affordable housing plan ignites passions". A town size affordable housing project east of I-75 is coming up for approval next month. The 1,488 home project named Palmer Place appears the be the biggest in the state of Florida.
People against the plan says it puts too many homes on too little land and are also complaining about
The Florida Department of Transportation chose Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport as the top commercial airport in Florida. Sarasota beat nineteen other commercial airports, including those in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.

Bizjournals, the Web site of American City Business Journals Inc., rated Sarasota-Bradenton as the 2nd best place in the country to grow a small business. Bizjournals used a 12-part formula to rate the vitality of small-businesses in the nation's 75 largest metropolitan areas.
Sarasota-Bradenton was the second-smallest metro in the study, but it ranks as the second-biggest success story. Only
Let me explain these charts since they are a little difficult to read. The general overall trends are most important. Each graph shows the number of homes and condos for sale in Sarasota. The red solid line is the number of properties pending and the smaller bar graph represents the number of sales each month. These numbers come from our Sarasota MLS. The top chart is from November of 2003 to

Here are the most recent inventory levels that I pulled from the Sarasota Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, Siesta Key, Lido Key, Bird Key, Casey Key, Longboat Key, Osprey and Nokomis make up the figures. I am not using Manatee county, Venice or Charlotte county home and condo inventories. Notice that I added the most recent inventory figures on the right side of my blog.

We heard a few market predictions this week from well known real estate experts. Lawrence Yun, the Managing Director of Quantitative Research at the National Association of REALTORS, where he manages the Statistics and Forecasting Groups of the Research Division went on record this week saying the worst is over the Southwest Florida real estate markets.
"Do not bet against this region," he said.
As a regular weekend feature, Lyke2Drink will visit some of the world's great watering holes. This week we head to the Gulf Coast of Florida to visit a restaurant where wine is king.Fred's Restaurant1917 S. Osprey Ave.Sarasota, FL 34239(941) 364-5811On a recent business trip to Sarasota I was part of a group that had the chance to go to Fred's, part of the city's Southside Village. Fred's is really four places in one. There is the main restaurant, an alfresco set of tables on the sidewalk, a bar area with booths and an adjoining space called the Tasting Room. For a city of its size, Sarasota has a bushel full of quality restaurants. Fred's is among the best.Fred's menu offered a range of seafood, steaks and chicken. I went with the pan-seared red snapper with herbed chick pea puree and found it to be quite satisfying. Others enjoyed the sea scallops, grilled yellow fin tuna steaks and New York strip steaks.I was impressed with Fred's massive wine list, which has won the Wine Sp
