For just $50,000 starting bid you can own the world’s first solar-powered Ferris wheel. According to park officials the wheel needs to be replaced after 12 years of exposure to the Pacific Ocean. Original cost for the Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel was 800,000 dollars, so fifty grand is quite a savings. Half the proceeds from the final auction will go to the Special Olympics of southern California.

If your are from Portland and in LA you probably want to call this place "My Father's Office", but alas, it would be the wrong kind of twaddle. SpecialSauce is in LA:While I was in LA I rode 30 miles out to Santa Monica with El Jimmy for some burgers at My Father's Office. This is quite the burger experience, not just dining but a sport. After waiting in line to get in (the place is tiny) you order at the bar and then it's a free for all to actually get a seat. Most everyone in there looked to be a professional of some sort and they were ruthless. We managed to get some standing room at one of the counters to enjoy our burgers. These were delicious, worth the ride and $12. Good beef, caramelized onions, arugula and cheddar on a french roll. The thin cut fries were good too. Father's Office

Lucky for me I just moved to San Diego, so I’ll definitely be there. I performed last night for a wedding and cocktail hour at the Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. I had never been there before; what a beautiful venue! The wedding was held in a very large banquet room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean.
I performed in a trio consisting of violin, cello, and harp. This is an unusual combination, but very effective! It’s always fun to play music with friends…

I found an old photo of a house in Santa Monica, taken in the early 1950's in my Great-Uncle Nick's photo album. I've sketched it, and painted it, and I'm still looking at it, so I figured it was time to make a print of it.No one in the family can remember who's house it is, but I'm pretty certain, based on multiple images, that they all spent time there.
