$25 million on GreenWashing Oil Sands
Oilsands never 'green' - From Montreal Gazette   Tell the Alberta premier to get his head out of the oil sands. But, astonishingly, his government is spending $25 million on a brazen PR stunt designed to delude the world into believing the oil sands are "green."   Stelmach's agent in Washington, deputy premier Ron Stevens, was attempting to persuade the U.S. government to leave Alberta off a list of countries producing "dirty oil," from which imports would be banned.   U.S. advocacy group National Resource Defence Council certainly didn't. Spokeswoman Liz Barratt-Brown said calling the oil sands sustainable was  "ludicrous," given the "enormous amounts of global warming and toxic pollution" they create. OK, so they're a bunch of sad-sack lefties.   But li

Trip to Puri, Orissa : Toshali Sands
On this trip I stayed in a resort called Toshali Sands. This resort is about 65 KM from Bhubaneshwar city and it takes about an hour and a half by car to reach the resort from Bhubaneshwar airport. The road is very good and it is quite a smooth ride. You can call up the resort and arrange for a car pick up from the airport which we did and it cost us Rs. 1200. In front of the resort is the Baiukhanda Reserve Forest which is basically a cashew plantation owned by the government and were told that there were mainly deer in it but we did not get to see any. If you drive through the forest then you reach the Balighai beach.Although the resort claims to be of 4 star quality it is not really of the same quality of other 4 star properties although it might have similar amenities as a 4 star prope

ARE CANADIAN OIL SANDS THE ANSWER?
There’s lots of talk on the financial channels this morning regarding all of the untapped possibilities that we can explore to supply our country’s need for oil in the coming years. Canadian oil sands have been getting a lot of coverage because they say there is more oil in that sand in Canada than there is in all of Saudi Arabia. It’s an expensive process to extract the oil from the sand. It has to be heated to separate the two and that eats up the profit per barrel. I believe I heard mention of a price of $30 per barrel. In these days of $100 plus prices for a barrel of the black gold 30 bucks seems like a piddling amount doesn’t? Therefore, we can probably look for daily oil production in Canada to start kicking butt if it hasn’t already. In addition to the possibilities

Our strong dollar and the perceived bargains in the U.S. have brought droves of Realtors and salesmen from South of the border to flog their wares, when we’re feeling at our most vulnerable-bitter winter.Albertans are prime targets.I too admit to a weakness for a house on a palm-treed beach. But Asia has its fair share of beach holiday options, offering as much or as little excitement as any tourist could want. The Philippines may not come to mind as readily as, say, Bali or Phuket, but it does offer some fabulous affordable getaways. Prominent among the nation’s 7107 islands is Boracay, about 40 minutes flying time south of the main island of Luzon. This popular spot offers a wealth of attractions - hotel and resort complexes suitable for any budget, a golf course and the 4km long White Beach that has been ranked among the best in the world. eNergySTOCKS: British Petroleum go for oil-sands
BP rose on plans to venture into the Canadian oil sands on Tuesday amid a surge in energy stocks on tight oil inventories and plans by OPEC to hold production steady. The overall market also provided a big lift, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DJ:13,444.96, +196.23, +1.5%) rallying nearly 200 points in midday action on strong U.S. productivity gains and private-sector hiring. Crude-oil stocks fell by 8 million barrels to 305.2 million barrels in the past week, well below the forecast for a dip of 1.7 million barrels. Crude-oil futures rose 50 cents to $88.82. In a move to tap into what's often regarded as the largest oil reserves in the world outside Saudi Arabia, BP (BP:73.68, +1.33, +1.8%) said it will exchange half of a stake in its Toledo refinery for a half share of Husky Energy's Sunrise field in Alberta. But there we were looking for the original site of one of the preeminate photos of all time (as far as Vintage Las Vegas is concerned). MM figured out from satellite photos of then and now exactly where the photo was taken. Well, exactly within about 10 feet. So that’s where we took the group photo of everyone on the bus tour. The spot is now the front sidewalk of the Venetian. And that’s the first time in 20 years anyone’s managed to make me go on the strip on a weekend night.   Share This

      Venice The Sands of Time
It was from Byzantium that the taste for refinement and sensuous luxury came to Venice. "Artificiosa voluptate se mulcebat," a chronicler wrote of the Greek wife of an early doge. Her scents and perfumes, her baths of dew, her sweet-smelling gloves and dresses, the fork she used at table scandalized her subjects, plain Italian pioneer folk. The husband of this effeminate woman had Greek tastes also. He began, says the chronicler, "to work in mosaic," importing mosaic workers -- and marbles and precious stones -- to adorn his private chapel, St. Mark's, in the Eastern style that soon became second nature to the Venetians. The Byzantine mode, in Venice, lost something of its theological awesomeness. The stern, solemn figure of the Pantocrator who dominates the Greek churches with his frowning brows and upraised hand does not appear in St. Mark's in His arresting majesty. In a Greek church, you feel that the Eye of God is on you from the moment you step in the door; you are utterly enco

      Islay's Singing Sands
Regular visitors and locals are aware of the fact that Islay is a musical island and there is even a place on Islay where the sand is singing. The Singing Sands on Islay are not unique in the world, there are other places that have singing sands, roaring sands or even whistling sands. There are a few conditions that have to be met to let the sand sing. The sand grains have to be round and between 0.1 and 0.5 mm in diameter, the sand has to contain silica and the sand needs to have a certain humidity. The frequency of vibration is related to the thickness of the dry surface layer of sand. In the case of Islay's Singing Sands it is said that if you rub the sole of your shoe over the sand it generates a singing sound. I have been to the Singing Sands a few times but probably never had the right conditions, or the proper shoes, to generate a sound. The Singing Sands beach is located on the Oa peninsula just behind the Carraig Fhada Lighthouse. Sands gets imploded
Wow, I remember growing up in the Garden State and heading out to Atlantic City. The Sands was a fixture. A fixture we never went to, preferring the Trop and Caesars, but still a fixture, with that weird set back entrance and covered walkway. Well, it has the distinction of being the first casino on the East Coast to be imploded. Sweeeet. While it was no Vegas style New Year’s Eve bash, it still had fireworks and Bon Jovi, and oh, a giant imploding building, so it was damn cool. Sadly the good part of the video doesn’t happen till the very end. Check out the Star Ledger piece on the event with the same video and some more pictures.

Albertan will see more more of the Oil Sands revenue in infrastructure and perhaps more rebate cheques.2. Oil companies worry that rising royalties may slow or hinder production. With the oil prices rising and Alberta's 175 Billion barrels of oil, second only to Saudi Arabia, many companies will pay the royalties to participate in what may be the biggest economic boom of the century.READ MORE

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time takes place in a mystical Middle Eastern setting, all bathed in soft, warm light and looking like something straight out of a storybook. You play as a young prince who possesses exceptional athletic and acrobatic skill. Early on in the game, the prince steals the dagger of time, a treasure from a rival nation, as a token for his father the king. When a traitorous vizier compels the prince to use the dagger to unlock another treasure, a huge hourglass, everything goes wrong. The sands from the hourglass blow forth, enveloping the kingdom and turning its guardsmen and citizens into, for lack of a better way to describe it, “sand zombies.” The prince, the vizier, and a young woman named Farah are among the only survivors. In the prince’s efforts to undo his mistake, he’ll join forces with Farah, seek out the hourglass, and confront the vizier. The game’s story takes a backseat during most of the game, but it is bookended nicely and is framed a

CANADA: Canadian Oil Sands Trust, distribution Raised 33%
by Kurt Wulff (McDep Associates)Read more | Digg story Announced with first quarter results after the market close on April 25, the directors of buy-recommended Canadian Oil Sands Trust (COSWF) declared a quarterly distribution of C$0.40 a unit, up 33% from the previous quarter. Market reception of Syncrude Sweet Blend was better than management guided. Record volume of 356,000 barrels daily was achieved in the last month of the quarter. Actual and futures prices for Light Sweet Crude oil are now more than US$65 for 2007, up from $60 in management’s new guidance and up from $55 in management’s old guidance. Though we are confident in our estimate of net present value of US$35 a unit, the stock has been under pressure apparently from Canadian political considerations regarding potential taxation of trusts and carbon dioxide emissions. Dion's biggest test: Alberta's oil sands
