The move is complete. Well, most of it is - I still have a lot of books and files to bring down from the cabin, and it’ll take a few weeks to get everything organized once it does all arrive. Despite the chaos, and the challenges of moving just before Christmas in temperatures of around -30° C, though, Cathy was calling our new home her sanctuary within days of spending our first night here. It’s peaceful, it’s private, and it just feels good. The big plans we had to start renovations right away have faded - somehow the things we planned don’t seem so important right now. The photo below - the view from our bedroom - may give you an idea why. Last night the moon, though nowhere near full, was brilliant, and the hot tub provided a superb place to soak it in. This is an excellent commentary on illegal immigration by Fred Thompson. We just had three college kids killed in New Jersey by an illegal alien. A Chicago church has had a woman in sanctuary for over a year.This gives me an idea. Illinois has passed a law that bans smoking in all public places. Maybe some of the states smokers can go into a local church fellowship hall and fire up. If illegal immigrants can, why not?

Following the road and the old pilgrim's path in reverse, we come to the outflow of the Kastalian Spring, whose falls upslope are hidden by gnarled trees. Beside the modern road is an ancient walled enclosure with broken steps leading down to a pool where suppliants once bathed. It is studded with purple flowers, and acacias grow over it, covered in ivy. Beside us, a moss-bedded stone channel in the rock bears a swift-flowing freshet down to the pool. I risk a drink and wash my face in the cold mountain water.Athena beckons us on. Farther along the road, on the opposite side from Apollo's sanctuary, we descend long dusty switchbacks in the afternoon sun. We soon wish were were back at the Kastalian Spring! We nearly give up, despite the ancient gray-green olives all around us promising that the goddess' sanctuary is near.(Read on...)

Mountains rise around us, blue in the haze, their sheer rock walls laced with waterfalls. At last, rounding the shoulder of Parnassos, we see the ruins of a little round temple to the left, far below on the olive-clad slope, which Anna our guide identifies as the Temple of Athena Pronaios. Just past it the road bends left sharply, following a fold in the mountainside; to the right through dark trees we see the sacred spring where pilgrims once purified themselves. SOLD Sanctuary. (Buildings 3)It is hot outside, midday, everyone is at lunch and so the streets are still and shimmering in the sun. I step inside a church. The latch on the heavy wooden door clangs into the dark, cool space inside. The air is considerably cooler and laced with the smell of old books. As I walk quietly across large worn flagstones sand falls from my shoes. In the deafening silence I imagine each grain tumbling to the floor, being lit by the shafts of sunlight that filter through the coloured glass and bouncing with a tiny far away sound of summer on the beach. Last week, every Film Flap post covered chapter-based shows that were specifically targeting an internet audience. This week, I came across yet another one, Sanctuary, with expensive production values, longer episodes, a pay-per-download model, and even an option to see High Definition versions of the show. It's just more evidence that this type of "programming" is a viable option for content producers.The show seems to be of the X-files variety, as the show follows "the exploits of Dr. Helen Magnus as she seeks out all manner of terrifying and monstrous creatures." It sounds interesting, the trailer (seen above) looks great, and Sanctuary seems to fill another genre hole in the Serialized Webisode Sweepstakes, which is gaining in popularity. The cast is culled from other sci-fi shows, there are high quality effects (if a little video game-ish), and the website is well done.The catch is that none of the 16-18 minute episodes are free, and cost at least two bucks a shot (the HD version

Lobo is about 150 kilometers from Manila.  It is located near the southern tip of Batangas province. Lobo offers many attractions.  It has good white sand beaches whose ocean floor slopes gradually for nearly 200 meters before a drop-off.  It has very good coral and marine life on some of its beaches that attract many snorklers, scuba divers and underwater photographers.   It also has protected mangrove forests and fish sanctuaries. Ban Prasat Sanctuary, is 39 kilometers from Sisaket town and 8 kilometers on a road on the right. This Khmer structure was renovated after it was finished. The site comprises 3 square pagodas with a pointed top and all on the same laterite base. If someone had told me last week that there exists a place, only ten minutes drive from Downtown Seoul, that is green and peaceful, with views of undisturbed forest and not a tower block in sight, I would not have believed them.But, thanks to a Korean friend who took us there, we have discovered such a place. I mentioned the National Seal Sanctuary (in Gweek) the other day, because they also have Asian Otters.Surprise, surprise, there are also seals at the seal sanctuary. While we were there we saw the feeding - including a cheeky fish-stealing heron - and I thought I took a load of photos. Nagarhole was the private hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Mysore and later in 1955 it was converted into a wildlife sanctuary in Coorg. It was expanded and achieved National Park status in 1983. The forest cover is primarily tropical moist deciduous, dry deciduous and tropical semi evergreen with scrub brush and grassy swamplands. Teak trees and rosewood trees are abundant here. The serpentine river after which the park is named, winds through lush green wilderness, hence the name “Nagara Hole” in Kannada means Serpent River. Nagarhole is one of the finest habitats for the Royal Bengal Tiger and some experts also believe that it is the best place in India to see the leopard. Different species of Birds are also found in Nagarhole forests and the adjoining Kabini river. Muang Tam Sanctuary was built during 9th to the 10th Century. It is at Ban Khok Muang which lies at the foot of a mountain 8 km. away from Phanom Rung. The road to the sanctuary is entirely paved with asphalt. Muang Tam Sanctuary is a brick structure with 5 pagodas surrounded by laterite ponds. At the corner of each pond is a sandstone five-headed Naga that stretches around the four directions of the pond, these are plain headed Nagas. The sandstone lintel and doorway are beautifully carved. The compound is encircled by a crooked terrace and a laterite wall. Historically, there is no evidence as to who build this sanctuary, the lintel shows a Hindu deitycharacterizing Khmer Baphuan style of the 11th c. (1017-1087), it might be argued that the temple was built for Hindu community. Muang Tam Sanctuary opens everyday from 06.00-18.00 hrs.   I've packed up my Singer and I'm sewing at San Damiano, in Danville, California today. (I grew up in Danville!) My Mother has planned a quilting retreat for our quilting friends and my aunts and we are all enjoying a restful and merry weekend. San Damiano is the perfect location for us as it lends natural beauty, a peaceful environment, (no cell phones allowed!) sleeping accommodations, as well as a large room to set our quilting space up for the weekend. The friars at San Daniamo are proud of their cooking abilities and part of the cost of our stay includes three square meals a day in the on-site restaurant. Though we do not plan to take part on any of the religious aspects San Damiano has to offer, I think the serenity of the atmosphere,  the gathering of friends and our laughter will be restorative to the soul. Would you please send all the positive energies and prayers you can spare for my better half, Lee? We have a Court case coming up on Wednesday - nothing sinister, we are just trying to get a refund of money from the local Council for some work that they did that we don't believe we should have paid for. Poor Lee is very stressed about it - even though it is the right thing to do - and it is now starting to make him feel ill - he slept virtually all weekend because he felt so bad. Please help. Many thanks
