This episode is the kind of episode you want to be prepared for, only there’s no way you can be. The first time I saw it, I had been watching Show from halfway through second season, so I knew who had died and how, but had only the vaguest understanding of why it was important. Luckily, I had the leisure to gird my loins and buy a bottle of red wine to watch this ep, because as one tough English teacher told me, “You’ll never get another chance to read A Clean, Well Lighted Place for the first time, so live it up.” I figured that this sentiment could apply to Show as well, so I was ready. Has anyone seen this new Salvation Army commercial where the woman is standing alongside sad or traumatic situations ringing her bell? The Salvation Army gives money to the needy and helps do good things and that’s wonderful, we need more of that in this crappy little world. The woman with the bell however is a problem. They want you to help people, and their example to the people is some chick standing around with a bell not doing a damn thing. She rings her bell. Whooptie doo. They show her standing over a homeless drunk just trying to get some sleep as she rings her bell, no doubt annoying the shit out of the poor man. Johnson, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 37 months in prison for her conviction on one count of forgery, one count of computer fraud and one count of bank fraud. Additionally, Johnson is ordered to pay $160,846.68 in restitution and serve five years of supervised release upon her release from prison. United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline imposed the sentence on Johnson, age 31. According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Tom Bradley, Johnson admitted committing forgery to steal from the Salvation Army; using computer fraud to steal from Easter Seals; and committing bank fraud by lying to Wells Fargo Bank in an attempt to obtain a home mortgage.
