Curry Kettle Corn -- Spicy, Sweet & Salty
Seductively spicy, my curried kettle corn creation (lovely alliteration) started earlier in the week when I made an afternoon popcorn snack. The snack coincided with my recent fascination with Anjum Anand and Indian cookery. I wondered whether I could apply the curry flavors to my popcorn. I love popcorn and could easily eat it for every meal -- actually, in grad school I did eat it for

      The salty wind cries... Sarah
Okay. Here is a disclaimer, as my previous plans went awry when I thought I would be going home. I may or may not be going to the Texas coast for a couple of days. There, Fate. Are you happy now? With that disclaimer out of the way, here goes...Since my father is not going anywhere and his condition is stable and unchanged (meaning, sedated and relying on a ventilator to breathe), I am considering taking Amos down to Rockport, TX for a few days to visit with my sister. I've never been to Rockport, although Phil and I spent a great deal of time in the Corpus Christi and Port Aransas areas when we were young pups in love. Now, I have the chance to take the pup of our loins to see the ocean for the first time. How cool is that, eh?Rockport is a bayside artist colony. I want to eat on a

      Sour, Sweet or Salty Food?
If you sometimes are longing for the acid, the salty or the sweet meals, it means that yor body gives you specific signals. But how to understand them?Sweet foods Food produces with the sweet taste is, first and foremost, a powerful antidepressant. The habit to eat sweets when emotionally hurt or disturbed is typical especially for women. If you find that you have this passion, perhaps you should look for the cause in psychological discomfort, and try to resolve issues of conflict in the family and at work. The consumption of sweet is just an escape from some problems, but leading to others - extra weight, diabetes and others. The amount of eaten sweet has to be reduced gradually, replacing it with light physical loads or detracting on interesting occupations. When there is an urgent need of "sweets", it is better to have dried fruits, which supplies the organism with necessary substances and does not bring harm. If that was not enough, you can eat a piece of dark chocolate, a marmalade

      Salty Dogs: A book review!
It’s been a little while since I meet with Jean in Winchester for her signing of Salty Dogs. I finally have some time to write a few words about her book! This is the first book review by The Barking Blog but there will be more to come! Title: Salty Dogs Author: Jean Fogle Published by: Wiley Publishing, Inc. Composition Services Copyright: 2007 Inside front leaflet: “I think we are drawn to dogs because they are the uninhibited creatures we might be if we weren’t certain we knew better.”-George Bird Evans “Salty Dogs is a breath of fresh air. You won’t be able to look through these fun-filled pages without smiling. Dogs live in the moment and renowned dog photographer Jean M. Fogle captures those moments of sheer exuberance as carefree canines frolic and rollick on the beach. Engaging photos show dogs swimming, playing, romping, surfing, and lounging in the water and on the sand. Featuring dogs of varying pedigrees and personalities, including Germ

You'll Be Pumping Ovaltine or Salty Shanty's One Shot Tea!
This is sort of related to horror, so I guess I have an excuse for posting it on this blog. I have to share this because it's so funny I had tears running down my face.Admittedly, this may be a bit disrespectful to another culture. I mean, I like Indian television--what with all the wet saris and hip-thrusts--as much as the next guy. But on the other hand, they're the ones who chose to do a bad rip-off of a Michael Jackson video, so they get what they deserve. Basically, it's in Hindi, but some smart-aleck has put in subtitles of the English words that it *kind of* sounds like they're singing. Now I gotta go get me some Salty Shanty's One Shot Tea. That sounds delish.Hat tip: Mark Shea

McDonald’s Worker Arrested for Salty Burger
Kandra Bull, a worker at the McDonald’s in Union City, GA, was arrested on Friday for putting too much salt on an officer’s burger. The burger, he said, was so salty that it made him sick. Kendra spent the night in jail and could be facing more charges as the investigation unfolds. Bull said that she accidentally spilled the salt on the burger and told her manager about it. Another co-worker of hers tried to “thump” the salt off and then served it to the officer. Kendra could possibly face charges of negligence for serving the hamburger “without regards to the well-being of anyone who might consume it.” She has been working at the McDonald’s for five months and wonders why the officer continued to eat the burger if it was too salty. Bull also claims that she ate one of the hamburgers with the salt on it during her break and it did not maker her sick.

      Sweet, sour and salty
Our wonderful mae baan has been cooking us tasty dinners three days a week for the last two weeks. What a treat to come home and have a delicious Thai meal waiting for us on the stove! And since my day starts at 5:45 in the morning, I’m usually ready for dinner at around 4:30 pm… Yesterday one of the tasty Thai treats Khun Duang Lam left for us was green mango with sugar, salt, chili dip. Delicious! Like Sour Patch Kids - only real fruit! Try some prik kab kleua at your house - all you need is a green (sour) mango, and some salt and suger mixed with crushed chili for dipping.  I promise you’ll love it!

      That Salty Air
That Salty Air Ernest Hemingway  would be proud of Tim Sievert’s "That Salty Air". It’s amazing the bond that fisherman have with the sea. Since the "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", man has either battled or come to the grips that the sea always triumphs over man, no matter how hard you try control it. Pollute it, dam it, over-fish it. The sea will find a way to get you. You have to live with the sea, accept it, you cannot change it. It can be your friend and be your deadliest friend that will take your life. Many believe we came from the sea and have a maternal attachment to it, considering 80% of our bodies contain water. I always loved the story of one man versus an element of nature. Tim Sievert at the ripe age of 24 delivers on all accounts with this richly illustrated tale. Preview Hugh is a fisherman with a special relationship to the sea; a relationship based on respect and reverence. But when Hugh feels that the sea has betra

Of Salty Wine And Clinging Pits And Really Dumb People
Who knew that putting a bit of salt on your tongue before you guzzled a glass of wine could change many of the wine's innate qualities? And who knew that the reason that you sometimes struggle to get the pit out of a piece of fruit is because those sneaky fruit trees can grow BOTH cling and freestone fruits on the SAME tree? Let me backtrack just a bit. Those are just 2 things I learned at Copia, the food and wine education center in beautiful downtown Napa.Copia is a lovely large airy building filled with kitchens, classrooms, theaters and lots of display space for exhibits on food and wine, as well as a magnificent garden, soon to be expanded by a big new greenhouse, currently under construction. It was founded by Robert Mondavi, among others. They offer an interesting schedule of daily events and classes. I had told H(usband) that a particular day was to be devoted just to Copia, so he kindly went along while I explored every square inch of the place. We started with a half hour gen

      Sweet and Salty Olive Candy
Two creative chefs in Winnipeg recently came up with a recipe for candy that helped them win the Gold Medal Plates Canadian Culinary Championships, and all they needed to do was create olive brittle. Minced kalamata olives were coated with caramel to create the award-winning treat, but since I’m not a fan of kalamatas, I’m not sure how this would actually taste. I guess everything should taste better with caramel…right? Here’s the recipe, for those adventurous enough to try it out themselves: Olive Candy ½ cup kalamata olives, pitted and minced 1 cup sugar ¼ cup water - Mince olives and air-dry overnight. - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Sprinkle with olive pieces. - Combine sugar and water in a pot over low heat. Stir to dissolve. Cook over low heat until caramel forms. - Pour caramel over olive pieces. Let harden. Smash brittle into small pieces. Strangely enough, I’ve tasted a snack that can best be described as sweet olive candy. Preserv

Pure Clarity, Neither Salty Nor Sweet
כ"ז באדר תשס"זJust a quick observation about two shorashim: מלח and מלץמלח is the Hebrew root for "salt". Salt pertains to Gevurah and bitterness.מלץ is the Hebrew root for "being sweet and pleasant". Sweetness and pleasantness pertain to Chesed.Interestingly, the two shorashim are very similar, sharing the first two root letters (מל) and differing only with respect to the third root letter. The two differing letters cut from the shorashim together spell "clear" and "pure", in Hebrew צח.Consequently, in terms of sacred femininity, we can see that pure clarity is not made of "sweet pleasantness" any more than it is made of "bitterness". Pure clarity is brought about by neutralizing and overcoming the obscuring effects of both circumstances and psycho-emotional dispositions.Technorati tags: Torah Talmud Torah Judaism Kabbalah jewish mysticism mysticism jewish meditation meditation shamanism jewish shamanism kabbalah iyunit kabbalah maasit jewitchery jewitch jewi

      Photo Hunt Salty Caviar
© Lifecruiser 2007 (Home, Sweden) Theme: Salty | Blogroll Info | Next week: Architecture Kalles Kaviar is a very classic sandwich paste made from cod roe, which has been very popular here in Sweden for many years - I’ve been eating it through my whole life now and then. It’s one of Swedens strongest brands. It’s salty, mildly smoked and used not only as a pure sandwich paste, but also on the morning eggs or in different mixture in different dishes. It’s very useful for cooking chef’s with other words. The name Kalle is originating from the boy on the tube - Carl (nicknamed Calle) Ameln who’s father Christian Ameln was managing director of the manufacturer Abba, when Kalles Kaviar were launched back in 1954. Abba is long established and has had it’s head office in Stockholm since around 1850 - so Abba the worldfamous Swedish music band had to ask them for permission to use the same name.
