Fiji Saltwater Fishing Report - April-May 2008 - Bloodydecks.com "Adrian, sweet ride and sweet location. I don't know if you read my reply yesterday but I had the opportunity to work on Kadavu Island three times about 15 years ago guiding multi-day 5, 7 and (1) 10 day kayak trips for South Pacific Kayaks sponsored by the Dive Kadavu Resort. Once we had set camp each afternoon I would gather our Fijian Crew led by a really nice guy named Tom jump in the support boat and going fishing with the only gear I had, namely salmon fishing gear brought from Oregon. We had some epic days fishing mainly around the Nagagia Island area. There wasn't any charter operations or boats down there then, but I thought what a great place to bring a boat and set up shop. Setting Up Your First Saltwater Fish Tank Is Easier Than You Think
For many people thinking about setting up an aquarium, the immediate thought is to avoid saltwater tanks because they are to complicated. Saltwater or marine aquariums once setup can be as complex or as simple as you want them to be. You don't have to have a tank full of corals and delicate invertebrates to enjoy the vibrant colors found in saltwater tanks. Whether you are new to the aquarium hobby or have kept tropical fish in the past, anyone can have a saltwater tank. To be successful doesn't mean you just throw some water into a tank and head to the local pet store however; some preparation and thought do need to go into setting up your tank. Without getting too complex, the basic equipment you will need in addition to a tank will include a good quality filter, a heater and lighting.

      Saltwater Differs from Freshwater
Most of the model designs are based on particular biotopes. A biotope is a small geographic area, such as a lagoon, with characteristic kinds of life. Saltwater organisms, though amazingly adaptable, thrive best in conditions similar to those found in their native biotope. The vastness and complexity of the coral reef ensures that many possible biotopes will exist wherever reefs occur. Coral reefs do not develop at random, however. The peculiar needs of the tiny animals that comprise the living coral restrict coral reefs to certain areas of the sea. Because of the narrow range of conditions required for abundant growth of coral, in some ways reefs everywhere share many similarities. This contrasts with freshwater habitats, which vary dramatically from place to place. Not only coral reefs, b

One Man's Search for a Cure to Cancer leads to Ability to Burn Saltwater
This is simply amazing. An inventor looking for a cure for his own cancer possibly discovered a way to burn salt water. The idea to cure his cancer has to do with injecting the cancer with nano size particles of metals. Then turning on a wave generator that will heat up the metal and destroy the cancer without harming the good tissue near it. (Though I have heard of this elsewhere). A friend had suggested that he use it to desalinate salt water. After experimentation he discovered that he could actually seperate the hydrogen from the water and burn it at incredible temperatures. Watch it here! If any of this is true - think of the ramifications!

Tips On….Wahoo and Narrow Barred (Spanish) Mackerel– Saltwater Trolling baits and bait/lure combinations
Deckie Joe displays a wahoo’s unusual ability to hinge both its upper and lower jaws For us here on Kadavu Island, May to October is wahoo & sailfish season. Packs of wahoo congregate along the Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef and year round, we find Spanish mackerel. The average size of wahoo here is about 50lbs with a really good fish weighing in at 90 to 100lbs. The mackerel are common to20lbs but can reach 70lbs. The trick here is to first find the wahoo packs by trolling a spread of lures. The wahoo packs are usually on one side of a reef point or the other, depending on the current direction. Normally the up-current side on the drop-off where the depth is about 250ft. Once a pack is found, we then usually switch to 2 outfits on light tackle, rigged with garfish (Ballyhoo). We troll one skip bait and one swimming bait. This prevents the expensive problem of getting mauled by a pack, having 5 rods go off with associated chaos on deck and loosing almost everything you have in the wat

      Saltwater or Freshwater?
So I have always wanted a saltwater aquarium. I have had several freshwater aquariums in the past but they were always a lot of work, they smelled funny and the fish aren't near as colorful and fun to look at as the saltwater tanks that I had always seen on tv. So a couple of years ago I went out and bought a saltwater tank, not just any saltwater tank but a beautiful 55 gallon hexagon plexiglass tank. It was beautiful to look at it. After picking out my tank I then went and picked out a couple of fish and thought I was good to go. Boy, was I wrong. I bumped into someone in the fish department at the pet store and my nightmare began. First, I couldn't just buy a tank I had to get the $300 stand to set it on, I had to have certain types of sand and chemicals and pumps and filtration and wave simulators and lighting and, and, and, the list never stops. Oh, by the way forget the fish, it takes three months to get your tank ready before you should even think about fish. Three months l
