I started obsessing about how many years it takes to become an MD, so I was comforted by the statistics I found for the mean salary of residencies nationwide. It's not as bad as I thought. The education world is going to closely follow a new charter school opening in New York that is planning on paying its teachers $125,000 a year in hopes that they can attract the type of people who can boost student achievement. As reported by Elissa Gootman of the New York Times the idea has people taking notice:"This is an approach that has not been tried in this way in American education, and it opens up a slew of fascinating opportunities," said Frederick M. Hess, director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. That number is a little misleading, as it doesn’t take into account education and employee status, but the difference is still 11% when equal employees are studied across genders. We all know the gender differences in salary still exists in business and so does the glass ceiling to some extent.  The common explanation is sexism and deliberate underpayment of women. Linda Babcock, professor of economics at Carnegie Mellon University, has been studying the issue at length and has produced some interesting findings. USA Today has Published the top salaries in the National Football League, and some of the names, as a matter a fact, MOST of the names, should surprise you.  Topping the list overall is a HUGE shock to me, as Pats DE Richard Seymour tops the list after making a whopping $24 million in 2006. Saints QB Drew Brees is 2nd, and his 2006 season earned that.  3rd is Vikings OL Bryant McKinnie, the mammoth 6-foot-8, 343 pounder.  4th is another Vikings OL, Steve Hutchinson, who got a monster deal and took a lot of heat from moving from the Hawks to the Vikings last season.
