Another salad added to my repertoire is this farro salad with grilled vegetables. I got the inspiration for this from one of Bobby Flay’s shows. It’s been a while, so I don’t remember which show it was; probably “Boy Meets Grill” since there is plenty of grilling going on for this dish. There is grilled eggplant, which yields an incredible flavor, grilled red onio

Here in Wisconsin the weather has been quirky. The lingering spring coolness and then the floods of June knocked out or delayed much of what we expect to have coming our way from our CSA share. From what I’m seeing at the Farmers’ Market it seems to be common situation. I snagged our first tomatoes [...]

My parents bought a large amount of baby red potatoes and gave us a box of them. It just so happened that I was looking through some old recipes of mine in one of my very first recipe 'boxes' and found one I had cut from a product label or magazine. It was simple enough and used foods we loved so I decided to try it; Ranch Potato Salad. In the end it was good.... but missing something. I'm not

When I visited my sister-in-law at Bangalore, she made sure I had a banquet. One of the items was this appetizing salad. It was so attractive that I only had to click a snap and got a near perfect photograph. She had no clue of my intentions of blogging this one, but still the near perfect slices and the well placed coriander leaf with a tiny little water droplet on it, still makes my stomach grow

Over the weekend, I was super lucky to be able to try out a tester recipe for Lindsay's (aka the Happy Herbivore) upcoming cookbook. These are her Tamale Pockets, and man were these tasty. The pictures above do not do this meal justice. I'm not sure what was up with our camera, both Brett and I took TONS of pictures of these and none of them really came out. Oh, and it didn't help that I overstuff

This was my favorite salad dressing years ago. It was made by Seven Seas before bought by Kraft Foods. It is no longer marketed and produced, except in limited markets and quantities, but I found the recipe. It used to be a #1 selling dressing from the early 70's. Enjoy this one, cause its a treat!Ingredients 1 cup Mayonnaise1/2 cup sour cream1/4 cup snipped fresh chives or minced scallions1/4 cup
There are, I think, three essential ingredients to this salad - corn, which you can grill or even prepare by toasting frozen kernels on the stovetop, onions, and cumin. The rest is a medley of whatever fresh vegetables you might have on hand. In this case I had zucchini and a serrano chile pepper from my garden and a big red bell pepper. I tossed in some cotija cheese for good measure. Although t
Inspiration for good food can be found anywhere, even Starbucks, where I had a delicious chicken salad sandwich recently. The key ingredients other than chicken? Cranberries and tarragon. French tarragon is a distinctive herb, with a slight anise or licorice aroma. We don't use it that often; I grew some last year and don't think we used it more than once or twice the whole season. But it does pai

To be honest, the standard deli-issued potato salad isn't really my thing. But that said, I still love potato salad, I just can't stand the mush. To keep my potato salad more solid, you'll notice I use a lot less mayonnaise and I cut the potatoes into wedges (rather than slices) and I keep the skins on.
The result: A perfect salad for the 4th of July!

There was absolutely nothing to this scene. I was sitting in the car, waiting for my friend to pick up dinner and hell bent on sketching something. Anything. So here was the parking lot in North Falmouth, Massachusetts. I wasn't able to finish the sketch as my friend was too quick for me and anxious to get home with the hot goods.
Quinoa, pronounced keen-wah is a grain from South America that is becoming quite popular in the West. It’s an incredibly healthy grain as it’s full of amino acids, magnesium and iron. It is officially summer today. The summer solstice is currently taking place as I write this post. It seems like a magical time of year. It was my chance to make my favorite, long-awaited, red potato salad. As you are fully aware by now, I am

The pasta salad can be a thing of beauty or a complete failure. I have made both and I have had both. The pasta salads that are served at the cafeteria where I work are consistently bland, dry, and with overcooked mushy noodles. What’s worse is that they charge for them by the ounce!!! So I pay $5 for what amounts to little more than a side dish serving of what masquerades as pasta sala
