I thought it was going to be about the “fly away” that’s been proposed for 7th and Sahara, but rumor now has it that its for a HiRise Condo Complex to be built on the Marie Calandar/Tony Roma lot at 6th and Sahara.

Just over a fortnight after the TabletKiosk's Sahara i440D Slate PC began shipping out to interested buyers, the niche machine has now been reviewed and benchmarked for those still mulling a purchase. With the weather much clearer today it looks like the Sahara dust storm that was hanging over Puerto Rico has finally moved on its way. Its amazing that such a dust storm can affect us when we are so far away from teh Sahara… Anyway the forcast for the rest of the week looks OK according to Yahoo Weather:

Sahara India Pariwar, the Lucknow, U.P.-based conglomerate that owns the commercial airline Air Sahara, announced last week that it will launch its Sahara Care House service for NRIs living in the U.S. The service will allow Indian Americans to take care of relatives and manage property in India through "relationship ambassadors," who are on call 24 hours a day.

OK, so if you were here in Puerto Rico the last couple of days, you would have noticed how hazy it has been. Today was especially hazy. The reason according to the MODIS website:
A dust plume several hundred kilometers across blew off the west coast of Africa on May 9, 2007. The MODIS on the Terra satellite took this picture the same day.
This image shows the dust plume fanning out approximately 500 kilometers west of the coast. The plume is thickest in the south, near Cape Verde, although a thin arm of dust stretches out toward the Canary Islands in the north. The thickest part of the plume is tan in color, while the thinnest portion appears ghostly gray. Over land, the dust is not thick enough to block the satellite’s view of the land surface. A dust storm this large can track across the Atlantic Ocean and be carried by the trade winds bound for Central and North America and the Caribbean.

India’s leading private airline Jet Airways finally announced a takeover of the much smaller Air Sahara at a cost of Rs. 1450 crore ($346 million) last week, ending prolonged speculation over the deal which had been announced originally in January 2006. With this merger, the process of consolidation has begun in the country’s civil aviation industry. It will emerge as the largest player in the Indian skies.
The private sector Jet-Sahara combine will end the dominating role of the public sector with the new corporate commanding as much as 32 percent of the domestic market space. The scene may change after a few years with the proposed merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, but Jet-Sahara will be the leader for some time to come.
The merger is not likely to impact domestic fares for the time being, in view of the stiff competition between the numerous players in the civil aviation sector. This is despite the fact that Jet-Sahara along with the public sector Indian Airlines
Mumbai, April 16 (IANS) Air Sahara, which was taken over by rival Jet Airways last week, will be renamed Jetlite and will function as an independent entity, it was announced here Monday.
Jetlite will be positioned between a low cost and full-service carrier. “It will have its own fleet,” Jet chairman Naresh Goyal said at a press conference. These changes will come into effect from April 20.
Jet, which is India’s largest private airline, took over Air Sahara in a Rs.14.5-billion deal last Thursday, making it the largest air operator in the Indian domestic aviation sector.

This looks like a well-funded effort: three guys run across the Sahara for a National Geographic documentary. I’m sure it will be good, but I find Paula Constant’s Sahara trek more inspiring, probably because of the much lower level of support she has.
