It's nothing but sand, some would say. And they'd be perfectly right. But sand can be interesting. Near the village of Merzouga in western Morocco, about 50 km from Algerian border, sand is fine and orange. My feet vanish in dune's slope as I am climbing the hill. Just over a fortnight after the TabletKiosk's Sahara i440D Slate PC began shipping out to interested buyers, the niche machine has now been reviewed and benchmarked for those still mulling a purchase. The folks over at TabletPCReview noted that this machine was a breeze to tote around, had a solid feel, sported a satisfactory (though not awe-inspiring) display, and performed sufficiently enough for those not looking to actually replace their (likely more robust) laptop. Additionally, the pen functionality was highly praised as was the respectable array of ports, but the amount of noise and heat that this bad boy emitted was a slight turn-off. Still, the Sahara i440D benchmarked well against similar alternatives, and while we wouldn't recommend 3D gaming or motion picture rendering on it, it seems like a solid choice for those in the market. Sahara Computers and Electronics, has launched the Sahara Multimedia PC powered with Intel Technology, at a price of Rs 9,999 only. This is the second such initiative of the company, in its quest to bridge the digital divide. The company maintains that it is the first to introduce PCs on the Intel platform in the sub-Rs 10,000 price range. Sahara India Pariwar, the Lucknow, U.P.-based conglomerate that owns the commercial airline Air Sahara, announced last week that it will launch its Sahara Care House service for NRIs living in the U.S. The service will allow Indian Americans to take care of relatives and manage property in India through "relationship ambassadors," who are on call 24 hours a day.
