Depending on your style of riding and the type of saddle you use, what do you put underneath that saddle? I use something pretty close to this. Jess and Gerald turned me on to it. It's a nice shock absorbing wool pro-pad that conforms to the horse and leaves a space for withers. I also notice that it tends to keep the saddle from sliding. You can easily throw a wool blanket over it to "pretty" it up a bit, but it works well enough on it's own. I really need a second one. I also have another thick wool pad that's a bit more decorative and a few blankets. It's clear by the looks of this pad that I use a western saddle. Dear Readers,I have been out of town for the long holiday weekend, visiting family along the Eastern Seaboard. If you and yours celebrate Easter, I hope it was joyous. And if you celebrated Purim, joy and merriment to you as well!Traveling by Amtrak had its ups and downs, but overall it was worthwhile not having to drive all of those arduous miles. (I am also aware that train travel is a good choice vis-a-vis environmental impact). Still, getting around by train in the U.S. is nothing like it is in other countries, and I found myself pining for the timely, clean, and comfortable trains of Europe.Now, here I am back at home, happy to be in my own space, and ready to get back to work once again. Beautiful mare with sweet level temperment. Tango has been used for lessons for years, and trail riding through some very public areas (lots of traffic, kids and noise!). Excellent ground manners and safe to handle by most any age and experience level. She has the curly personality in spades! And the intelligence, she's a fast learner. Well, I am good for another year. I had my hood lifted and my oil checked. All is in working order. The doctor suggested that I try using the patch instead of getting my tubes tied, until I am 100% sure. That's right, back home after a fabulous 3 week vacation!During our travels across country and back, I ate at some mighty fine restaurants. One that I would highly recommend if you are ever in the Wisconsin Dells area is R Place Italian Restaurant. A 5 Star in my opinion!Its a cozy little spot, wedged inbetween some larger, more commercial hotels and restaurants, right on the main drag, the Wisconsin Dells Parkway. Everything, from the garlic bread and minestrone soup appetizers down to an array of pasta dishes followed by sherbet, was quite tasty. A group of cabin owners and guests made their way to Deer Farm Zoo and Riding Stables in nearby Sevierville to enjoy an hour of horseback riding through the scenic woods and hills. Nami is a retired 11 year old race horse. He has been used as a pony horse at various horse race tracks and I am currently using him at Canterbury Park in MN. Nami is very gentle around children and is often the star of the show in between races with his young crowd petting him and feeding him treats. Nami travels with energy and is willing to work very hard. I ride him in a western saddle and simple snaffle bit. He adjusts well from track life to country trail riding. I am selling him due to doctor's orders not to ride with my pregnancy. He deserves a great home! He loves attention!! More pictures available.

Registered 2 year old American Saddlebred Gelding. This big guy is easy to work around and get along with. He is well versed in the lines and has recently been started under saddle. He has not been in a full bridle yet. He is doing all three gaits well and canters correctly on both leads. He uses himself very well. At this time, he is wearing a keg shoe with leather pad on front and keg shoe only behind.
He will be hooked soon and worked for a harness horse as we do not ride all that much any longer. He does look as though he would gait but we have not tried him.
He could easily be kept at home by fairly experienced AOTs or could be kept with a trainer. We are AOTs and he has been working very well for us.
His tail has been cut but at this time isn't wearing a set. His tail is straight and easily worked with.
Gizmo is a 6 yr old Welsh cross gelding who has been started but is very green. He has mostly only done round pen work so far. He has gotten a late start in life but would be perfectly fine with an experienced person who has the time to work with him consistently. He could be very fancy.He has a great personality loads stands for farrier and is up to date on shots.
Pixie is a Welsh cross 3 yr old filly started under saddle this year. She is a super cute mover and would make a very cute hunterjumper. She has been ridden all over our ranch around our cows and been trailered to other places to be ridden. She is still green and so will need an experienced rider to finish her but she is very intelligent and willing to learn. She has a great loveable personality.She loads trailers stands for farrier and is up to date on shots.

Well, I'm finally back and able to post again. Hilton Head was......bitter sweet. It's tough to see my grandmother's struggle with Multiple Sclerosis, and in a vacation destination, the custody of the eyes that one has to maintain every second of the day can be tiring. But, the pool, the ocean, and the jacuzzi were all very relaxing. Food was great. Beer was great. Plenty of cool little outlet malls and places to walk and just chill. It was good to hang out with my dad and my grandfather. And, of course, it was really nice to have Amy there to share it all with.Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. Oddly enough, no one had a camera. Kinda sad, but what can you do. I did manage to scan a caricature of myself that one of the local artists drew for me:I think it was pretty dope. Well I took a week off since finishing La Trans Aq'. I got my ankle checked out Tuesday. It was nothing too sinister, just an inversion sprain which had caused me to lose some mobility (can't point my toes or pull them towards me as far as the other foot). I've still not quite got full range of movement back yet, but it's not painful at all.I had my usual gym session on Friday, was working all day Saturday, and so I went for a run on today. I planned a 10 mile route, and as a special treat did it without any backpack. It felt very strange. I felt as though I was bouncing along weightless. I discovered part of my planned route wasn't a footpath and so had to make some on-the-fly adjustments, so I actually ended up doing 12 miles.I didn't make it easy for myself either. I picked a hilly little route through Swynnerton Old Forest and Trentham with 1300ft of ascent. I really enjoyed running through the forest trails. It's been a good day so far with just the one slip up. I'm up 11.5% with a couple of lays to go this evening so hopefully it can be a very good day. I felt pretty relaxed at the start of the day, I think the worst thing to of done would of been to put pressure on myself and expect a good day to recoup losses. I've tried extremely hard to just forget Wednesday and so far so good.I did originally post over at WBX that I intended to lay Vitznau but I had an extra 15 minutes looking at the race and saw it as a massive danger on form. I'm glad I left well alone as he won nicely.So June has started nicely and I want to go onwards from here and see no reason why I can't. I was very glad to see Henry Cecil land the Oaks, excellent trainer and personality, I hope he can battle through his cancer.John.

Had a trip to San Antonio, TX this week for the funeral of my grandmother. I've been to San Antonio many times, and it's one of my favorite cities to visit. However, on this trip we didn't get to do any of the many things you can do in San Antonio. No evening walks on the river walk, no great Mexican Restaurants, and no visit to the Alamo. I was only in San Antonio for about 24 hours, and it kinda felt like I just had a long layover. It was good to catch up with family from all over, and weird to think that we don't get together more often. Isn't it sad that sometimes death is the only thing that brings us together?

These pads I use for everyday use, training, my students use for 4H shows or Local Level Shows, and trail rides.This is a nice wool Pad I would recommend for showing . It's larger and a nicer design. This pad is definitely worth the money. They last for years, and clean up real well. I shampoo and curry mine. Not only do they not slip, but they resist any pressure points on the horses back. This pad is a lighter version, and the top is canvas not wool which makes it unlike the others. I like this pad for the summer. The same concept, just lighter and cooler. Measuring 30" X 32" it may be a close fit for some of the saddles with the larger skirts.The last pad is a nice all purpose pad.
