In an age when world affairs are powerfully driven by personality, politics require an understanding of what motivates political leaders such as Hussein, Bush, Blair, and bin Laden. Through exacting case studies and the careful sifting of evidence, Jerrold Post and his team of contributors lay out an effective system of at-a-distance evaluation. Observations from political

Before he was alleged to have become a spy for Saddam Hussein's regime, Muthanna Al-Hanooti's charity work and political activism provided him with access to the highest echelons of government. Newsletters collected by the Investigative Project on Terrorism, some published now for the first time, show Al-Hanooti photographed with dignitaries ranging from First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1996 and Vice President Al Gore along with significant members of Congress. For never before published photos of al-Hanooti's...(read more)

On Wednesday the unsealed Justice Department indictment against Muthanna Al-Hanooti-a top official for a Detroit based Muslim charity called Life for Relief-reflects that Saddam Hussein’s principal foreign intelligence paid for a 2002 widely criticized visit to Iraq by three House Democrats.Al-Hanooti is charged with conspiring to act as an agent of the Iraqi government, violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act by illegally obtaining the Iraqi oil contract, and three counts of making false statements to FBI agents.Al-Hanooti, who was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport Tuesday night after returning from a trip to the Middle East is said to have planned and organized the trip of House Democrats Jim McDermott of Washington State, Mike Thompson of California and the no

Prior to the beginning of the hostilities to finish that what Saddam started in 1990, it seems that Saddam "bribed" some congressional democrats and financed a trip to Iraq. What a leftist putz.WASHINGTON - Three U.S. lawmakers made a trip to Iraq that was secretly financed by Saddam Hussein's intelligence agency during the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. An indictment unsealed in Detroit accuses Muthanna Al-Hanooti, a member of a Michigan nonprofit group, of arranging for the members
The fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq should lead us to focus on two inescapable but unfashionable truths: that Israel is marginal to most conflict in the Middle East and certainly not the cause of Islamist hostility to the West; and that Saddam Hussein was not only a bloodthirsty tyrant of but an inveterate supporter of terror.

Five years on, few Iraq myths are as persistent as the notion that the Bush Administration invented a connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda. Yet a new Pentagon report suggests that Iraq's links to world-wide terror networks, including al Qaeda, were far more extensive than previously understood.

Five years after the US invasion, no one misses Saddam, but some Baghdadis are nostalgic for the relative freedom and stability they had before the Americans came.Saddam's 24-year reign of terror ended in spring 2003. What followed, say Iraqis, was a brief period of freedom and prosperity before their nation fell apart. The situation in Iraq on the eve of the anniversary of "Operation Iraqi Freedom" has both opponents and supporters of the American military campaign puzzled. The body of a Catholic archbishop is found near the northern city of Mosul, and yet the US embassy in Baghdad is holding a flea market as if it were peacetime. The United States has been in Iraq longer than it fought in World War II. Only a quarter of the US citizens knows 4,000 American soldiers were killed in Iraq. Acc

I know, I know, the mainstream cliche is to believe that Saddam couldn’t possibly have had any ties to radical Islam. An exhaustive Pentagon-backed study of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents seized after the 2003 US-led invasion has found no direct link between Saddam Hussein's government and Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network. The alleged link was one of the main reasons given by the US for going to war with Iraq and the then defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, had said there was "bulletproof" evidence of
Exhaustive review finds no link between Saddam and al QaidaExcerpt:"An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network. The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam's regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East, U.S. officials told McClatchy. However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime."
Supporters of the Iraq war have justified the war because of disputed claims such as that we were threatened by WMD from Iraq or that there was a connection between Saddam and al Qaeda. Of course such claims are not limited to the right. Even Hillary Clinton has used the 9/11 attack to rationalize her [...]

The Flopping Aces Blog had this story:This week there were two news stories that re-opened an incredibly dangerous question about Saddam Hussein and nuclear weapons. Before examining those stories, it's important to reflect on the historical facts regarding Saddam Hussein and claims from five years ago that he was a nuclear threat to stability in the region and the world."How quickly Iraq will obtain its first nuclear weapon depends on when it acquires sufficient weapons-grade fissile material. If Baghdad acquires sufficient fissile material from abroad it could make a nuclear weapon within several months to a year.Without such material from abroad, Iraq probably would not be able to make a weapon until 2007 to 2009, owing to inexperience in building and operating centrifuge facilities to produce highly enriched uranium and challenges in procuring the necessary equipment and expertise. Most agencies believe that Saddam's personal interest in and Iraq's aggressive attempts to obtain hi
Saddam Hussein: Cried when FBI interrogator went home Living in a hush-hush prison cell inside Baghdad International Airport after his capture in a Tikrit spider hole, ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was a study in megalomania for the FBI agents tasked to interrogate the despot. He was obsessive about cleanliness, constantly washing his hands with baby wipes - just like those used by most American G.I.s - and even used them to polish the fruit his military captors delivered. Though jailed and facing...(read more)

This is one of the sickest videos I have ever seen…
Around the middle of this clip, these fools start pushing people off a building onto the concrete below. The first person to be pushed off the side is dressed in a Superman costume. How sick and twisted is that?
Who would have guessed those soldiers even had such things as Superman costumes? Or even knew who he was. Anyway, I gotta wonder if they tortured(or killed) those poor men in that way because they did have one costume and got the Superman idea from it.
The beginning is pretty grisley, it shows the beatings and tortures of Saddams sick ass regime, toward the end of this video clip it gets really bad and graphic as the soldiers push people off a building onto the concrete below.
However, the former Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, was hanged in northern Baghdad for crimes against humanity. (crimes against humanity?… go figure)

Saddam Hussein was prepared to take $1 billion and go into exile before the Iraq war, according to a transcript of talks between U.S. President George W. Bush and an ally, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported on Wednesday. During a meeting at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, on February 22, 2003, Bush told former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar that Saddam could also be assassinated, according to the transcript published in El Pais in Spanish. The Egyptians are speaking to Saddam Hussein. It seems he's indicated he would be prepared to go into exile if he's allowed to take $1 billion and all the information he wants about weapons of mass destruction," Bush was quoted as saying at the meeting one month before the U.S.-led invasion. Asked by Aznar whether Saddam could really leave, Bush replied: "Yes, that possibility exists. Or he might even be assassinated."Spokesperson Dana Perino was asked about the transcript published this week by the Spanish newspaper El Pais. It purports to

Wyatt was "willing" to pay oil surcharge, witness says|A former Iraqi oil company official, testifying in Oscar Wyatt's fraud and conspiracy trial, said he was in a meeting where the Houston oilman was haggling over how much of a surcharge he would pay to buy Iraqi crude. Wyatt, 83, is accused of funneling millions of dollars in illegal surcharges or kickbacks to Saddam Hussein's regime under the United Nations' oil-for-food program. Charged with fraud, conspiracy and violating U.S. sanctions, Wyatt could be sentenced to 74 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Wyatt contends all his dealings with the Iraqis were lawful. Mubdir Al-Khudhair, a former manager with Iraq's State Oil Marketing Organization, is the first witness since the trial started early this month whose testimony has tied Wyatt to surcharges. Al-Khudhair told the jury he was in a meeting in January 2001 where Wyatt was negotiating the purchase of some Iraqi crude and expressed "his willingness to pay the surc

What does Al-Qaida, Ho Chi Minh and Saddam Hussein have in common? They were once our allies. It seems our government leaders have managed to create a history of turning on former allies. As unbelievable as it seems, Saddam Hussein is alive. Our government attempted to cover the incident up, but somehow this amazing video surfaced earlier today.
The coincidence is amazing, but could this have anything to do with the discovery of the tomb containing the remains of Jesus Christ which proves that he was never actually resurrected? Is it possible that Hussein was resurrected as some sort of sign? Be warned, the video is shocking.

Saddam Hussein, former President of Iraq and ally of the United States, died on December 30, 2006 around 6:00 a.m. local time near Baghdad, at the beginning of the Sunni observance of Second Eid. Saddam Hussein, former dictator of Iraq, torturer, rapist-by-proxy, murderer of children, user of weapons of mass destruction, was executed on December 30, 2006 by hanging, pursuant to the laws of the new Iraq. President Bush is reported to have said that justice has been done. Reactions, other than in Iraq, where people had and have a real stake in the life and death of this man, are fairly predictable: the end point tends to be predetermined by where the opiner begins. Thus Europeans, generally opposed to the death penalty, decried the execution as unjust, while the United States, a death-penalty nation, proclaimed it a day when justice prevailed. As always, what we see depends quite a bit on where we stand. But why should we in these United States care? The short answer is
SADDAM ALMOST COMPARED TO A CHILD MOLESTERLooking for my own blogs on the list of blogs on the subject I came across this blog that claims to tell you all they did not tell you about Saddam. I must say it is a very lenghty essay worthy of an A but not an A plus. The reason being that this fan of Saddam casually brushes off any of the execution orders he gave. By trying to make him appear to be a saint he almost compares him to a child molester. He built roads and hospitals, gave free litteracy, raised the standards of living made Iraq a boom country. It sounds like ''well he did enjoy the company of children but he bought them toys, took them swimming, took them to the summer cottage ...all things they would not have had , had he not been there.''SADDAM did not give them a FLAG to be proud of, he gave them (with their money) statues of himself and painted buildings with his face on them, to be adulated and adored as though he were a God.If an essay is to be believable it has to call
DID SADDAM PAY FOR BIN LADEN?Failure on the part of bully Bush to produce BinLaden a scape goat was needed to calm the voters.Saddam was the ideal candidate his country situated in a very strategic area.Claiming that saddam had weapons to scare the universe he became an easy target especially when one is known to be a dictator. There is a saying in french which goes like this. ''qui veut faire tuer son chien l'accuse d'avoir la rage '' which would translate freely as ''if you want your dog killed you say he has the rabies '' obviously no one will go near him enough to verify that it is true and they will jump on the bandwagon and shoot on sight. So Tony Blair blindly joined Bush then there were all kinds of little countries who could benefit from a war who banded and it became some kind of coalition. How legal was it ?NO NUKES, well no one wants to seem alarmist or ridicule, let us provoke the bastard into hiding. If he hides it is because he fears something. wrongdoings of c
This is a leaked video of the execution of former Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein last December 30 taken using a camera phone. The execution took place more than three years after his capture, on December 13, 2003. He was sentenced to death by the Iraq Special Tribunal, for crimes against humanity on November 5, 2006. His final appeal was dismissed on December 26, 2006, and the execution was carried out four days later at an Iraqi military base in Kadhimiya, known as Camp Justice.Up to the very last moment, Saddam Hussein remained unfazed and defiant, smiling and talking, reciting the Shahadah, amidst all the supposed taunts coming from the onlookers. The prison guard who allegedly took this video has been subsequently arrested. Last night while we were ringing in the New Year with our new friends Josh Case and his wife Laura, Josh and I stepped aside to see if we could find news/video of the lastest on Saddam.
Josh had told me that someone had a video in the room when Saddam was killed and he taped the whole thing. The mentioned tape had apparently made it to Youtube, so after the night had picked up and the ladies were cooking we sat down to find the video. I don’t know why, probably curiosity mixed with the idea that it was hard to believe the events of the past week. The Godfather of Soul, A former President, and now a famous Dictator all died in a weeks time. This, on top of the fact that Josh and Laura had just arrived here after attending a funeral of a close person in Josh’s life.
All of this piled up and I guess we were just thinking about death. So we watched Saddam’s life end.
When I was in 4th grade I remember rumors about Saddam, the rumor that I remember most was that his hea
OK, we've got a "sore throat" theme this New Year's eve. This video finally made it to YouTube and pretty much everyplace else. Seems someone in the crowd at Saddam's execution used a cell-phone to take this. Apparently the execution took place a little differently than described in the media the first time through. It had a more vengeful tone, but you had to expect that. Saddam's friends can probably be happy a huge crowd didn't simply tear him limb from limb. However, the overtones of Shi'ite partisanship are curious in this...this is from ABC News Terry McCarthy...
There are five men in black face masks who are visible on the gallows platform around Saddam, acting as guards. As they guide him towards the trap door and put the noose over his head, they start chanting religious slogans with the names of Moqtada al Sadr (the head of the Mahdi army, accused of organizing death squads against Sunnis) and Baqr al Sadr (the father-in-law of Moqtada). Saddam, a Sunni, is outrage

This video may not be safe for work.
I'm posting this because this moment is a very important one in world history, and only time will tell if this was really the will of the Iraqi people or more Washingtonian politricks.
I don't want to embed this video on this blog but you can see pretty much the full hanging here, recorded on someone's cell phone.
There's a lot of noise and the graphics
This execution was "shadier than a forest", as my chum Mark Armstrong is fond of saying.
Now the Asian Tribune reports:
The decision to send Hussein to the gallows was not a judicial but a political one. It was signaled by al-Maliki himself after the death sentence was pronounced by a special tribunal on November 5, when the Iraqi prime minister declared that Hussein would be executed before
Do you ever stop and think how damn lucky we are to live here in America? I woke up this morning and dragged the cans in to find my neighbors’ trees out for recycling. It seems like yesterday we were tying ours to the roof of our Jeep Liberty and decorating it at home. I think I’ll leave ours up a bit longer. We have so many freedoms here. We can pick a career, go to college and pursue our dreams. We can get married, raise a family, go to church and do what we want. I wonder how long until Iraq is like that? The execution of Saddam Hussein is a very meaningful symbol in the direction toward that freedom. Soon, there’ll be Starbucks, and Pizza Huts, and Wal-Marts, and thriving Universities over there. I don’t mean to come off sounding like Dick Cheney’s hunting partner, I am quite liberal in my politics. Having said that, I feel such exuberance about the USA and wanted to blog about it. As I plunk around on the laptop today, I also c
As if shit over there wasn't already hotter than hell.
Is this justice? Is this what we are bringing to Iraq?
You can see some of the pre-execution in the clip below, which shows the noose being put around his neck. I have yet to find video of the actual deed.
All I know is I wouldn't mind seeing George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney face the same fate. Fuck 'em.

Since the news broke that the Iraqi appeals court upheld the sentence of death handed down to Saddam, television networks have a question that needs an answer. Should the video of Saddam Hussein's execution be released to the public?
This is a question that will need to be answered rather quickly as speculation is pointing [...]
Ever Since Aug 3rd 1990 when SPC Allen ran out of the Sat Com and said the 82nd was Deploying to Saudi and we spent the rest night on duty talking about Nostradamus and the beginning of WW III. With that started a long 14 months or so for me and my buddies at the 21st USAFAD in Corlu,Turkey. Before then.......
It seems like only yesterday that Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, was found hiding in a hole in the ground and put on trial for mass murder. Today, following his conviction, he was executed…and will shortly end up back in a hole in the ground…where he belongs.

Oggi muore Saddam Hussein. Un dittatore. Un Sanguinario. E l'Occidente è diventato come lui.
Red blogule to justice in 2006. Slobodan Milosevic died unconvinced and Saddam Hussein unconvincingly. The former in the middle of a fair trial that took too long, the latter after the caricature of a trial that took too much away from the relevant issues. At least historians will be able to browse through the unedited tapes of Solbo's show on ICTY TV (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia). Less frustrating than the almost comical tragedy narrowcasted by Baghdad TV, not to mention the lousy tapes of Nicolae Ceaucescu's execution.By the way : Romania is joining the European Union. Along with Bulgaria. And oh : 2006 is about to be executed soon, too. Quite a serial killer of bad guys*, this one.Happy new year folks. * Let's not forget Augusto Pinochet, Pieter Wilhem Botha, Kenneth Lay, James Brown (who used to beat his wife - wives ?), Paik Nam-june (who used to short circuit our brainwaves), or Gerald Ford (for not publishing his critical views on the war in Iraq b
The non-stop news coverage of Saddam’s pending execution is sick and demented. It is almost as if a pool exists to guess the day and time. The whole ordeal is a sad and disturbing reflection of our country.
Bush Lies, we attack Iraq without provocation.
The Iraqi government is toppled by a foreign invader.
Saddam is eventually captured.
Saddam is tried by a Kangaroo Court of our making and televised like the circus affair it was.
Saddam is found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging.
Larry King even comments on the “ghoulish” nature of this bizarre event.
Former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark denounced the Iraqi Special Tribunal’s death sentences against Saddam Hussein and two co-defendants in a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Clark served on Hussein's defense team during the trial.
Although the recently completed show trial against Saddam and the co-defendants was founded upon the outcome o

The deposed Iraqi tyrant is asking for it, and now that he's been sentenced to death, his departure for hell can't come soon enough (Hat tip: Hot Air). He deserves all the torture he can get on the way out too.

Saddam Hussein has a date with death. The Grim Reaper's estimated time of arrival will be within 30 days. Yahoo reports:"The appeal court has approved the death sentence. They (the government) has the right to choose the date starting from tomorrow up to 30 days. After 30 days it will be an obligation to implement the sentence," he said. I don't know why..but as soon as I read this this morning, I started to play that song "Loser" by Beck in my head....I'm a driver I'm a winner things are gonna change I can feel it... Soy un perdedor...I'm a loser baby so why don't you kill me..." Click here for musical accompaniment
Saddam lost his appeal and will be hanged within 30 days even though there are serious questions about the fairness of his trial.
The State Department has said it believes the trial met international standards of fairness.
Are “international standards” what we aspire to follow? I thought the missions was to create a “democracy” based on our values. Apparently, the means justifies the end.
New York-based Human Rights Watch, an independent advocacy group that opposed the death penalty, said in a Nov. 20 report that executing Hussein before further cases are heard will deny thousands of victims a chance to testify about other alleged crimes.
The group, which called the first Dujail trial “fundamentally flawed,'’ says the prosecution failed to disclose evidence to the defense in advance and denied defendants the right to confront witnesses. Human Rights Watch also says there were “gaps in the evidence'’ that undermined t
