"Perhaps the most unusual of all Supertramp albums and you can see why it threw so many people. It has a rough edge to it, was totally different to the excellent debut but I will defend that in parts it has some great tracks which showed an inkling of better things to come.' Rosie Has Everything Planned' is a typical Hodgson song full of melancholy. ' Travelled'

"I had to re-write completely this review and upgrade the rating of this album as I reheard it for the first time in over twenty years. I can't actually believe that I had forgotten (not heard) how good this debut actually is. I had a re-listen to their second album but that one stays crappy - so in my mind this one was probably also. When memory fails...... But i

Supertramp - Breakfast In America(1979)320kbpsWith Breakfast in America, Supertramp had a genuine blockbuster hit, topping the charts for four weeks in the U.S. and selling millions of copies worldwide; by the 1990s, the album had sold over 18 million units across the world. Although their previous records had some popular success, they never even hinted at the massive sales of Breakfast in America. Then again, Supertramp's earlier records weren't as pop-oriented as Breakfast. The majority of the album consisted of tightly written, catchy, well-constructed pop songs, like the hits "The Logical Song," "Take the Long Way Home," and "Goodbye Stranger." Supertramp still had a tendency to indulge themselves occasionally, but Breakfast in America had very few weak moments. It was clearly their high-water mark.Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine(allmusic.com)1. Gone Hollywood (5:19)2. The Logical Song (4:10)3. Goodbye Stranger (5:50)4. Breakfast In America (2:39)5.
