A lovely chap called Peter Fritz from Bulgarian website MilliardCity.com got in touch with me to do a Q&A session about luxury and hotels having watched our TV programme currently broadcasting in Eastern Europe. The intro (very roughly translated) says along the lines of ‘When you want to travel, and you want to get some [...]

Now we're always happy to plug a new business/venture on Crewe blog, especially if it's going to benefit the town. Smiths (on the corner of Market/Victoria Street) should do that on several fronts. First, there are jobs for local Crewe folk. Second, newcomers to this site will think that Crewe has historic old Tudor buildings :-) and, third, on a similar note, attracting designer stores like this will hopefully stop some of the 20/30-somethings (that's me out) travelling over to Chester and Hanley to shop. We need more, but like the arrival of many coffee shops maybe the town is starting to change... .Information: .Smiths telephone: 01270-583559 Address: 2-4 Victoria Street, Crewe CW1 Map location: here Website: here

It's been a tough week, and I'm feeling as old as Sir Menzies Campbell. The embattled, geriatric Liberal leader looks like he needs cheering up, and so do I. We head for Smiths of Smithfield, very much a local for KB as he lives round the corner, and one of our old favourites. This is about familiarity and comfort food.
Ahh, Morrissey. What is it about a celibate, terminally morose, nasally English vegetarian that makes us love you so??I've compiled a few of the best Smiths/Moz covers I've got in my collection. My particular favorite? Well, there's something so...(ahem)..."charming" about Sloan fumbling through "This Charming Man". And I quite like Mojo Nixon's take on "Girlfriend In A Coma". According to a published report, Morrissey recently turned down an offer to reunite his former band The Smiths for a 2008-2009 reunion tour. The deal is reported to have been worth 75 million and include 50 shows. It was also said that the only required members for this tour would have been Moz and Johnny Marr.
Looks like The Smiths will never be back together, for anything.
Morrissey also announced a slew of new tour dates, which include a Midwest stop in Merrillville, IN (closer to Chicago than Cincy) and loads of dates in LA and NY. It is also rumored that this group of dates are “the last shows Morrissey will do for the foreseeable future.” Get em while they are hot!
Big thanks to Filter for the tip…..
Here is some vintage Moz for you, from his first US Television appearance in 1991 on The Tonight Show.

Morrissey has reportedly turned down £40 million [about $80 million] to do 50 shows in 2008-2009. Even though the deal was he only had to tour with Johnny Marr, he still said no. Although most of us knew this already, it's time for everyone to deal with it: The Smiths are never going to reunite.
I stayed at Smiths Guest House in Edinburgh this week. I thought that the guesthouse was clean and tastefully decorated, with stripped wood and neutral colours - no flowers or frills in site. The breakfast was adequate. There is free on street parking in the side roads close to the guest house.
It is good value for a single room. I stayed in the single room which has a private bathroom outside the room, for £27 a night. The single room is pretty small, I think that the shower room is probably about the same size as the bedroom. You have to walk across the corridor to get to your bathroom which you unlock with the same key as your bedroom. I liked the view from the room to a small public garden with two large horse chestnut trees. If you want to have an ensuite bathroom you pay a bit more, £32 when I stayed. and have use of an ensuite twin or double room. When I stayed double or twin rooms cost £60 and the quad room £90. There is a two night minimum stay at weekends from th
Anna Nicole Smith was worth just £358,000 when she died and her gardener along with other work staff are in for some money too.The Playboy model, 39, had £5,000 in personal property and an LA home worth £909,000 but had a mortgage of £556,000, her last will shows.Smith's estate is claiming £227million from the estate of her dead billionaire husband J Howard Marshall.Legal papers filed in LA ask authorities to calculate how much her gardener and other staff are owed. I am sure she has spent alot of money and it looks like there is less than what everyone thought.

Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want (1:51) link Several months after releasing their first album, the Smiths issued the singles and rarities collection Hatful of Hollow, establishing a tradition of repackaging their material as many times and as quickly as possible. While several cuts on Hatful of Hollow are BBC versions of songs from The Smiths, the versions on the compilation are nervy and raw -- and they're also not the selling point of the record. The Smiths treated singles as

Though it aspires greatly to better The Queen Is Dead, it falls just short of its goals. With producer Stephen Street, the Smiths created a subtly shaded and skilled album, one boasting a fuller production than before. Morrissey and Marr also labored hard over the songs, working to expand the Smiths' sound within their very real boundaries. For the most

Suffer Little Children (5:28) link Arriving in an era dominated by synth pop and gloomy post-punk, the Smiths' eponymous debut was the bracing beginning of a new era. On the surface, the Smiths' sound wasn't radically different from traditional British guitar pop -- Johnny Marr's ringing, layered guitars were catchy and melodic -- but it was actually an astonishing subversion of the form, turning the structure inside out. Very few of the songs followed conventional verse-chorus structure, yet they were quite melodic within their own right. Marr's inventive songwriting was made all the more original and innovative by Morrissey's crooning and ly
Although there was a brief glimmer of hope that the band would reunite for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Morrissey has reportedly said he will send his invitation back, as he refuses to share a stage with drummer Mike Joyce.
My heart just skipped a beat. The Manchester Evening News is reporting The Smiths will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year -- and this could lead to the first time they're together on a stage in two decades.
In have listened to the new album - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank - of an indieband named Modest Mouse, and also posted about it here.
Now I found out more information about this band from The Independent: Morrissey may have hogged the headlines since the Smiths split in 1987 but this week Johnny Marr is celebrating a triumph that his former bandmate has never savoured. Working with his new band, the indie rockers Modest Mouse, the guitarist has gone straight to the top of the American album charts with We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
It is the first time Marr has had a No 1 record in the States and We Were Dead... has also topped the iTunes download chart and the Amazon chart. The album will be released in the UK next week.
If you go to the band´s MySpace-page you can listen so some of the tracks from the new album (found from a blogger in Svenska Dabladet).

Yes I know this session has been commercially released and that almost everyone owns a copy anyway, but the thing is The Smiths recorded some of the most popular sessions ever broadcast on the Peel program. I think I'm right in saying that their second session was broadcast no less than three times over a couple of months. This however is the bands first session and is no less brilliant than anything else they ever did. If you don't own a copy of this session then this can only be described as a must.Morrissey - VocalsJohnny Marr - Guitar/HarmonicaAndy Rourke - BassMike Joyce - Drums1. What Difference Does It Make2. The Smiths & Chris Gardner attended another movie premiere for "The Pursuit of Happyness"...this time in Germany. What a lovely family! If you haven't checked out this flick...you're really missing out!
