No doubt the guy is talented - I won't argue that.  I like most of his music, have seen him live four times, but the dude is one serious prima donna.  I recently saw him at the beautiful Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX - his best show of the four I've seen.  Roughly 2/3 into the set, he left the stage because of "technical difficulties" to return 30 minutes later and finish without incident.  Throughout the entire show, he was making bizarre hand gestures such as giving himself antlers with his fingers, making signs with his hands & frequently pointing to his ear.  I feel sorry for the sound guy.  He's one of these little lady boys who can't deal with anything outside their perception of an ideal situation. Following close on the heels of Ryan Adams' incredible "Easy Tiger" 2007 album release, he will release "Follow the Lights" - a seven track EP record with The Cardinals next month. NEW RYAN ADAMS - "FOLLOW THE LIGHTS"The 7-Song EP to be released in October!I am really looking forward to this! First off - two new songs and then two covers? Excellent. While possibly just a coincidence, the release of the new EP matches up with Easy Tiger's recent decline on the Billboard Charts. (I guess the release of the new EP would be an example of good economics and maintaining positive product placement.) Easy Tiger reached as high as #7 on the Billboard charts (Top 200). There is some evidence that there will be material on this record that Adams wanted on the solo album but his label but Lost Highway Records - objected to... presumably on the context they wanted to make money and were willing to repress some of the artist's creativity. I realize now why that is... His label took some of his creative freedoms away. The album is an impeccable mish-mash off all Ryan's music genres: he dances from rock; "Halloweenhead," to country twang; "Pearls on a String," to vocal-strengthened guitar tracks; "Two" (which features Sheryl Crow), on to blues-influenced Grateful Dead-homage music, "Goodnight Rose." Ryan Adams is the sole name on the CD. His country-rock specializing backing band, The Cardinals, are not credited here. I was unsure of the motives - but based on an interview I read in the new Uncut magazine (July 2007)..."It's not the record I wanted to make," Ryan says, unprovoked. "Not at all." Oh God, you know how i hate name similarities such as Bryan Adams and Ryan Adams. And also if i see many influences lists on artists' myspace page like influenced by: The Beatles, Scott Walker, The Stone Roses... And the result is a simple music without any connection to these references. We are big Ryan Adams fans here at ENS, even when he does some of the crazy things he is notorious for doing. But these first two samples from his upcoming album, Easy Tiger, are well, just beautiful. Although you won’t notice unless you listen real close, Sheryl Crow is providing backing vocals on the song Two, (of which we are still waiting for the Rob Base mashup). I published this show waaaaaaaaay on back in October of last year when this blog was equally as good, just far less read than it is now.
