Rutgers women lose to UConn; Hopefully, Imus wasn't watching
Well, the Rutgers women's basketball team lost to UConn in the NCAA Women's Tournament last night, 66-56. I can't say I am not pleased with this outcome, especially since I am hardly a fan of C. Vivian Stringer, the coach of Rutgers. What I do hope is that unlike last year, that Don Imus forgot to watch last night's game ... because we all know what happened last year when he watched ...

Stringer, Rutgers players happy to start season and shift conversation to basketball (AP)
NEW YORK (AP) — With the first day of practice, coach C. Vivian Stringer and her Rutgers team finally got a chance to stop talking about radio shock jocks and lawsuits and got down to the business of basketball. “I just wish people would say Rutgers, the national runner-up, and leave it at that,” Stringer said at Big East media day Thursday. Life hasn’t been that simple for the coach and the Scarlet Knights, who return all five starters from last season’s team that lost to Tennessee more…

Rutgers QB Teel vows to play Saturday (AP)
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel vowed to play against No. 6 West Virginia despite being limited in practice on Monday because of a bruised right throwing hand. “That’s not happening,” Teel said when asked if he might miss the No. 25 Scarlet Knights’ game on Saturday. “Not happening. I will be there.” Coach Greg Schiano came very close to lifting Teel in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s 30-27 win over then-No. 2 South Florida because the redshirt junior had more…

Knights don’t take “bull” in 30-27 triumph: Rutgers protects its house, knocking off USF from the unbeatens
Warning - UPSET Alert:  UPSET City continued a trend and was front and center once again in Piscataway, New Jersey, as Rutgers outlasted South Florida 30-27 in a tight battle.  WR Tiquan Underwood (5 catches, 114 yards, for 2 TD’s) showed why he may be the Rutgers’ MVP this season and their most overlooked star, as he made big plays when it counted and when the Scarlet Knights needed it the most, coming through in the clutch when the game was on the line in critical situations. The surprisingly 2nd ranked South Florida team, a squad who came out of nowhere, making it to the top of the football world when nobody thought they could reach a high pinnacle, were beaten by a team that’s getting good at taking out national title contenders (#3 Louisville - 2006). Third-string quarterback Andrew DePaola threw a 15-yard touchdown pass off a fake field goal to give the Scarlet Knights the lead in the third quarter and Rutgers also used a fake punt to set up an early field

Preview: South Florida Bulls @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Before the Bulls can start making reservations for the Sugar Bowl in Louisiana, it will have to convincingly pass its first true Big East road test, when it visits Rutgers Thursday night, if they want to impress me and show themselves to the entire Nation as an elite team. With LSU and California - the top two teams just last week - losing last weekend, the No. 2 USF program (6-0, 1-0) will step onto the field with the highest ranking in the school’s brief history after a 64-12 home shalacking of Central Florida on Saturday. They climbed three spots in this week’s poll. The Bulls, in their 11th football season, are also second to Ohio State in the newly issued BCS standings. “I get distracted like everybody else, but I try to keep them to a minimum,” South Florida coach Jim Leavitt said. “We’ve only played one game in the Big East, and our goal from the beginning was the Big East championship. And I want to tell you something, it’s going to be

NEW YORK (AP) — A member of the Rutgers women’s basketball team sued Don Imus and CBS on Tuesday, claiming the radio personality’s sexist and racist comments about the team damaged her reputation. Rutgers coach, players accept Imus’s apology
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer said Friday the team had accepted radio host Don Imus’ apology. She said he deserves a chance to move on but hopes the furor his racist and sexist insult caused will be a catalyst for change. “We, the Rutgers University Scarlet Knight basketball team, accept — accept — Mr. Imus’ apology, and we are in the process of forgiving,” Stringer read from a team statement a day after the women met personally with Imus and his wife. “We still find his statements to be unacceptable, and this is an experience that we will never forget,” she said. Source Kind of odd that this comes out only after Imus is fired, isn’t it?

An Open Letter To The Rutgers Women's Basketball Team
I am interrupting my planned posts for the week to do three entries concerning the controversy surrounding Don Imus' comments. I'm droppin' science, so if ya want jokes, I suggest you check out The Onion or Lenzism . I first want to commend you ladies on a great season. If this unfortunate incident has done nothing else, it has drawn more attention to your team's successes from people like myself, who do not usually follow basketball. I hope that you will, in time, be able to look back at this season and focus on the positive memories and your remarkable achievements. That said, within the next few days, Don Imus and his co-hosts will inevitably ask your forgiveness for their despicable comments. They will express regret and remorse, yet they will likely downplay the hateful and cruel nature of their words. As a young woman and as a Black person, I have a very important request to make of you: do NOT accept the apology. For decades, Black people and women have responded to racism an

Rutgers-Tennessee NCAA Women's Final Live Blog
Yeah, we know the game isn't until tonight, but our friends at SportsColumn are live-blogging it now to get it out of the way. We'd do it ourselves during the actual game, but we have more important fish to fry, like defrosting my fridge, vacuuming, and watching reruns of One Day At A Time. That Valerie Bertinelli chick is hot and that guy who plays her mom is really funny.Tennessee vs. Rutgers Live Blog(in progress)10:54 Player dribbles up the court and awkwardly jacks up a three. Around the 3:45 mark, a player will bounce a ball off her foot out of bounds, but other than that, there isn't much left to report. UCONN Men Win Ugly Against Rutgers
Well UCONN fans, if you are accustomed to going to the Big East Tournament in NYC and used to seeing your Huskies play on Thursday, well make arrangements to be there. Just make them for a day earlier than normal. Jerome Dyson led the Huskies in scoring again as they defeated the Scarlett Knights of Rutgers to clinch a berth in the Big East Tournament. Dyson had 17 points and Jeff Adrien chipped in 14 points. AJ Price also hit double figures with 10 points. For Rutgers, they were led by Adrian Hill and JR Inman who both scored 15 points. Inman had missed the previous game against UCONN with an injury. The first was rather ugly as both teams had trouble scoring and Rutgers got out to the early lead. Rutgers got the lead up to 8 at 22-14 before a 14-1 run in the last 5 minutes by the Huskies gave them the halftime lead at 28-23. UCONN built the lead up to 12 in the second half but an 11-0 run by Rutgers got them within 1 point. UCONN’s last basket came at the 4:20 mark but they mad

      UCONN Women Battle Past Rutgers
Led by the double-doubles of three players, UCONN was able to withstand a late run by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to win by the final score of 60-50. Charde Houston, Tina Charles and Kalana Greene’s double doubles were the first by 3 UCONN players since January 9th, 1994, when Rebecca Lobo, Kara Wolters and Jamelle Elliot accomplished the same feat. Houston had 16 points and 11 rebounds while both Charles and Greene each had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Renee Montgomery rounded the Huskies in double figures with 10 points. Rutgers was led by former UCONN recruit Kia Vaughn, who had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Tina Charles best friend, Epiphanny Prince, had 11 points. Rutgers got out to an early 3-0 lead on an Essence Carson 3 point shot but that was their only lead of the game. A Charles lay up put the Huskies up for good at the 16 minute mark. UCONN got their lead up to 7 early on behind the strength of 5 offensive rebounds and Charles’ 4 blocked shots in the first 10 m

      Rutgers Beats Down Louisville/BCS
Louisville took a huge hit today in their quest for the national championship when Rutgers was able to shut them out during the second half. Rutgers not only beat Louisville, they might have single-handedly killed the current BCS system. If people were saying that West Virginia deserved to be #2 when they were undefeated, and then jump to the passing bandwagon that was Louisville when they beat WVU saying Louisville deserved to be #2, how can you not say that Rutgers doesn’t deserve to be #2? I for one, hope Rutgers can pull out the 12-0 season and get screwed out of the Championship Game, then win the Fiesta or whatever bowl they go to, and have the team playing the winner of the Ohio State/Michigan game beating the Big 10 champ, creating another split National Champion. Maybe it’s just me, but I think that would be funny.
