Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Burhanuddin Abdullah said here on Wednesday the bank would strive to make the exchange rate of the country`s currency stable at around Rp9,000 against the US dollar in support of the real sector. "We will try to make it stable meaning we will maintain its volatility. In case a fluctuation happens it will remain within a measured range. It is possible for the rupiah to reach close to Rp9,000," he said. He said the effort was important to avoid possible damage on the economy. "We must never let the rate change excessively within a very short period because it will disrupt business," he said.
PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, Indonesia's state-owned power utility, plans to sell 3 trillion rupiah ($340 million) of bonds, the country's largest rupiah- denominated corporate bond transaction, in July. Up to early May 2007, the Tax Directorate General has found nine cases of fictitious tax invoices which caused the state to suffer more than Rp20.1 billion in losses. The five fictitious tax cases were in Medan, North Sumatra; one in Jambi; two in Lampung and one in Jakarta.The Director of Tax Intelligence and Investigation, Mochamad Tjiptardjo, said in Jakarta yesterday (7/5) that tax officers were also finalizing the investigation into the fictitious tax invoice carried out by a consultant office in Jakarta.
