Was yesterday's game ever ugly or what! At points, you felt no matter how far the Orioles were behind, they were going to come back -- or at least make the game interesting. Well, at other points yesterday, the game was, um -- ugly.Baltimore fought hard at the plate; alas, when your starting pitcher puts you in a five run deficit to start the game, and the bullpen falters as well, it does not matt
Author: Phoenix DelrayWhen it comes to the gay counterculture in America today, there are more gay fetishes around than you can shake a stick at. And to be sure, you can shake a stick at an awful lot of them. Sure, there are plenty of vanilla gay folks out there who do not involve any gay fetishes into their sexual habits, but it seems as though more often than not gay fetishes are involved in hom
I have not done in this while, but let's see what some of the media and other bloggers are saying about the Birds...Ben of Oriole Central was able to get a major interview this week with Brian Roberts. Although he does not ask anything about the trade rumors, you do get a lot of out of him and he also mentions his bracelets that he has on sale for charity. Anyhow, our second baseman has a video bl
The Baltimore Orioles started off the second half of the season much like the first -- with a loss. Detroit, which started off the season in a horrendous fashion have come back to join the dance in the American League Central. And last night, Baltimore saw first hand how potent the Tiger offense can be.The roaring Tigers rolled into Charm City and downed the Orioles, 6-5, last night at the Yard.Ba
Frustrating. Brutal. Sad. Unbelievable. As you know our beloved Birds lost last night. Obviously, this is one game out of many; however, this one hurt. By now, you all saw the moment in the ninth inning. After blowing a four-run lead, the Orioles had the game tied in the ninth against the Blue Jays with the bases loaded and with two outs. Then the moment that will perhaps be seared into our memor
It's exciting to see the Orioles winning again, and no matter it lasts or ends today, you can no doubt deny that the moves Andy MacPhail conducted in the off-season has paid dividends. With all the comebacks, promotions, the postivity and influence of Dave Trembley, likeable players and fans along with the town abuzz (the Roar from 34 came back for a night, but his been promimently used in Oriole

Erstwhile Sun blogger Roch Kubatko previews the 2008 MLB Draft for the Baltimore Orioles in today's Sun. Up until a few years ago, I never paid that much attention to it; however, considering the rising salaries in the game, the success of the Diamondbacks, Brewers, Rays, Marlins and other teams, the draft has become vital. The Orioles have a lot of holes, and honestly I think the need a college g

After the 12-2 drubbing of the Yankees on Tuesday, the Orioles were riding high and looking forward to taking on the youngster, Darrell Rasner; however, the same Birds that whooped up on the Bombers last night would be listless.Baltimore lost to New York 8-0, and there was not much that came of this game at all. For the past several years, the Baltimore Orioles have been worse than a laughing stock -- they have been disrespected, spat upon and treated well, like dirt. However, things might be changing and for the better.Yesterday, the Orioles had a dramatic come-from-behind victory as they beat the Boston Red Sox, 6-3, yesterday afternoon as Daniel Cabrera won his his fourth game and George Sherill earned

The Baltimore Orioles tango with the Boston Red Sox, or as I dub them, the Evil Empire 1A tonight and tomorrow at the Yard. The Red Sox always play us tough; however, this weekend, the Twins took 3 out of 4 from them and they'll be looking maintain their slim division lead (Tampa is 1/2 game back from first in the AL East right now). The Orioles took three out of four in Kansas City, and despite th
Could the good vibes of being a Baltimore Orioles fan in the short-term be coming to a close?I was going to title this post something else (use your imagination), but I decided to be a good fan and use some decorum when doing this.Again, the Orioles lost out West, 4-2, to the Oakland Athletics. The loss was their fourth in a row, and they need to find answers; according to Spencer Fordin, the Orioles held a meeting at some point on Tuesday.Brian Burres struggled for the most part last night, as he allowed eight hits and four runs (he was charged with three) over a little more than five innings of work. The bullpen was once again solid; however, once again the anemic offense did not do anyone favors despite the relief corps keeping Baltimore in the game. The flighted ones made A’s starter,
The O’s are now back at .500 as they lost to the A’s in Oaktown, 2-1. The loss is their third in a row; however, we should take some positives from the loss. After a devastating series loss to the Angels out in sunny California, they once again lost in a painful fashion.First, Garrett Olson went a little more than six shutout innings, and looked nothing like the wide-eyed kid who could not keep his pitches in the strike zone last year. It’s too bad he didn’t get the decision; however, the A’s starter, Dana Eveland was just as good on the mound as he threw seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits.Emil Brown had three hits, including the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, to decide the game. Rajai Davis drove in the other run for Oakland on
There was not much to yesterday's game at for the Orioles. We entrusted our young pitching to carry us, but an explosive Tampa Bay and a stellar performance by their starting pitcher Andy Sonnanstine's dominant doomed Baltimore. As well, thanks to a five-run seventh by Tampa, the Orioles went quietly into the night as they lost to Tampa by a score of 8-1.Sonnanstine only allowed one run on six hits and struck out five. Veteran Eric Hinske hit a two-run bomb in the fourth; meanwhile, Carlos Pena & Dioner Navarro each drove in two runs -- all in the fateful seventh inning.O's rookie, Matt Albers looked solid through the first six innings, but was charged with the loss. Bob McCrory came into game in the seventh for his major league debut, but got touched up.B-Rob was 2-3, and drove in the
Starter Daniel Cabrera allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts; however, he had seven walks and hit a batter over 6 1/3 innings for Baltimore.Cabrera's counterpart on the mound, Javier Vazquez was solid in the start for Chicago, giving up four hits, allowing one run while fanning seven over eight full frames. The Baltimore Orioles had multiple chances to put the White Sox in the late innings; however, in the bottom of the 11th, George Sherill gave up a solo homer to Chicago’s Juan Uribe to tie the game — again — 3-3.Huff getting tossed from the game for losing his temper was stupid, Melvin Mora being picked off at first by Bobby Jenks, as well as Adam Jones (as much as I love the kid) made a foolish turn at third and got himself out to end the ninth.Out of mercy, the game wa
Photo Gallery: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles, April 15thLast night at the Yard, the Baltimore Orioles continued their very strong start to the 2008 campaign by defeating Toronto, 4-3. Despite giving up a 2-run homer to Alex Rios, to almost put a scare into Oriole fans, George Sherill closed out the game, picking up his sixth save. What a strange feeling to be atop of the AL East — um, for now…Kevin Millar had a great night, driving in three and hitting 2-run homer; meanwhile, Adam Jones had his best game as an Oriole, going 3 for 3 with two steals. As well, Melvin Mora, Brian Roberts and Luke Scott also had two hits.Another youngster was impressive last night — Matt Albers. The big kid went five innings, and only gave up a single run. Perhaps after this start, he might be on
Things were looking so good for the Orioles on Sunday -- that is until the fifth inning. The young, but powerful Tampa lineup bashed Brian Burres, who until then had pitched four solid innings of no-run ball.B.J. Upton hit a three-run home run, Carl Crawford hit a two-run single for, & Akinori Iwamura drove in a run to send Tampa on the way to a 6-2 win.Nick Markakis hit his first homer, while Brian Roberts went 2-for-5. Burres (1-1) was charged with the loss during his horrible fifth inning where was charged with all six runs.Tall and huge (6'9"!!) Jeff Niemann pitched six strong innings in his big league debut, and he was masterful, only allowing one run on six hits and struck out five. He earned the win, and the aggressive Tampa Bay Rays took two out of three from the Orioles, using

Folks, the Baltimore Orioles are 4-1 and sitting atop the division. It’s been a good week for fans as the Birds split the series with the improved Rays and have taken three straight from the Seattle Mariners, supposed contenders in the AL West. We go for the series sweep this afternoon & so far and we have seen a little of everything from everyone. The starting pitching still concerns me, and the Orioles still may not have enough offense; alas, we are on top of the Red Sox, Yankees and Jays.As today is Monday, what do you think the week holds? Do we keep the streak alive? What do you think of Trembley? The shortstop situation? Huff? Jones and Scott? Also, what do you think of the classic “Oriole Magic” song being replaced before the game before with a song by the group, “Saliva”? Ok
The red hot Orioles won against last night as they beat the Mariners, 6-4. Luke Scott had a big night as he went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Melvin Mora had 3 hits, & Matt Albers got the win in relief after Adam Loewen left in the fifth inning. The Mariners homers, both two run shots from Jose Vidro and Jose Lopez; however, Baltimore took the lead in the fifth thanks to a base loaded walk and added another run in the seventh thanks to an Adam Jones sacrifice fly.George Sherill got his third save of the season; meanwhile, Miguel Batista took the loss for Seattle.***Well, after going to York, Pa., this afternoon, a bunch of baseball fans & myself were talking about the occasion this afternoon, and then the talk turned to the Baltimore Orioles. It was not good. For the most part, a lot of people
Gone are the days when video games were just sources of fun, where players would be satisfied playing games and completing them from start to finish, marveling at the graphics on the path. This is the age of experimentation. The average video game player is becoming more and more daring, and is looking out to try out new things with his or her gaming consoles. This is no longer the age of cheats and walkthroughs; this is the age of tinkering with the gaming consoles themselves and making games more adventurous to play.Several video game secret has been leaked out onto the Internet slowly but steadily about the popular video game consoles such as the Xbox, PlayStation and GameCube. Even most twelve-year old players nowadays know that they can copy their console games onto CDs and DVDs so th
Well, the 2008 regular season is upon us, and the good news is we now know who our fifth starter is --- Brian Buress. I figured he'd get the nod after his strong start, and like I said the other day, he was a great spot starter for the first half of the season, but he wilted and it seemed the more time went on, the less effective he was.Only time will tell if he can stay consistent throughout the 2008 season. Considering the expectations of the pitching staff, he'll be given ample opportunity to get a permanent shot in holding down the role.***After everything, Jay Gibbons may not be suspended, after all.In a piece in the Baltimore Sun yesterday, "The commissioner's office and the players union are negotiating changes to Major League Baseball's drug policy in the wake of the Mitchell Repor
Football and MoreIf you are a big fan of football games, then you probably follow one ore more football games which has its own league and teams coming from different countries. The most popular of them is the American football by the National Football League. American football owes its popularity to several television partners such as CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN and NFL Network. With such a wide coverage, youd think you would have had enough but since there are some people who still miss some games, you would find them prowling the Internet for more information. Again, stop prowling because you can find them all here on this site. If youre an Aussie, I bet Aussie rules will be the main choice of football. This one is governed by the Australian Football League and has its own following in their co
There presently are 6 vacancies in the U.S. House of Representatives, and over the next several weeks special elections will be held to determine who serves out the remainder of those terms. The former incumbent's party has the advantage in each of the races, but only three of the races are considered safe retentions. Here's a quick rundown of the six special elections.
CA-12 April 8 open primary, June 3 potential runoff
Five candidates are vying to replace the late Tom Lantos in this overwhelmingly Democratic district. Jackie Speier, who was endorsed by Lantos for the general election before he died, is a heavy favorite to succeed him in the special election. Should any candidate receive 50% of the vote in the open primary that candidate will win the election outright, otherwise the
I must admit I have been flummoxed on this blog lately. I previously endorsed John Edwards as the best candidate for the Democratic nomination and ultimately the presidency, and because of that I found myself with a form of writer's block. On one hand I wanted to forcefully advocate for Edwards, and on the other I not only wanted to maintain a bit of objectivity on the blog, but also did not feel it was right for me, as a Democrat, to try and sandbag the other candidates.I decided instead to discuss how I feel about the race and avoid the news chasing and commentary that clogs the mind and, in my view, destroys any possibility of making one's mind up without floods of remembered media slogans and the prevailing meme of the moment of the vapid cable news talk shows.Indeed, although the ma
Not much is going on in baseball, as it is the Christmas holiday, and I have been trying to scour the news, but there's not a lot out there. At this point, my wish as an Orioles fans is just to see the team come up with a viable plan to not only rebuild, but to have a core of players who remain in the Black & Orange for years to come.We need to get rid of what Mark Suchy of WNST calls the Holy Trinity -- Millar, Huff, Gibbons. Yes, it will be fair easier said than done considering their value right now. Also, you can add Payton on the list too.I have not heard much from the Bedard front as of late, and it looks like the Roberts deal has been tabled (though most people expect him to be dealt) before spring training.Rex Snider of WNST believes that the Mitchell Report was the 7th Biggest Story of 2007...Peter Schmuck wants sports fans to forget about 2007...Sean Welsh and Dave Carey ponder about Baltimore sports in the "Great Baltimore Sports Debate"...Former Orioles and Easton resid
It's been a bad week for sports in the area, as MASN blogger Matthew Perl ever so illustrates; therefore, I and a lot of fans in the area just pretty much want forget about 2007 and move onto to bigger and better things in 2008.Well, the Baltimore Orioles have pretty much accepted Brain Roberts' apology and want to move on from this whole sordid affair. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings wants Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts to become an anti-steroid advocate & join "Powered by ME!," a Baltimore-based awareness campaign that instructs youth about the dangers of illegal performance-enhancing drugs. I don't know if it's Roberts place to stand up against drug use or if he even wants to participate, as he should be focusing on baseball; however, it could only help in the cause of eradicating it from sports and obviously it makes for good PR.Read what Roch has to say about the proposal by Rep. Cummings and how it pertains to Brian Roberts.I, at this point really don't car
This has been a real bad week for sports in Baltimore -- I mean real bad. Between the Ravens and the Orioles, where do fans turn to for hope?Well, things have seemingly gone from bad to worse in terms of those who follow the Baltimore Orioles. As we know by now, Brian Roberts this morning told the Baltimore Sun that he dabbled in steroids once. Now, the Baltimore media is taking Brian Roberts to task, much like they did Jay Gibbons, despite his otherwise stellar and squeaky clean reputation. As a blogger, sometimes writer and a general sports fan, the cynicism that many are showing Roberts is what I felt this week, even though I really *wanted* to believe in Roberts. The silence this week though was pretty damning, and the carefully written apology is proof of what has now been alleged. So far, the rats, clubbies, former players and trainers who have turned against those who they use to help in the Mitchell Report and previous cases have been proven right.I'm sure Roberts is very sorry
In light of the events of the Mitchell Report, the Baltimore Orioles have issued a statement:"There is no place in baseball or in any other sport for the use of performance-enhancing substances. The Orioles support Major League Baseball's efforts to institute the most comprehensive testing program of any professional sport and one that strives to eliminate the use of performance enhancing drugs from all of baseball. As to the information and allegations contained in the Mitchell Report, the Orioles caution observers to resist the temptation to accept collective judgments based upon unsubstantiated allegations. The Orioles further believe that each Major League player must be treated on an individual basis, must not be judged responsible by mere association, and is innocent of any improper conduct until proven otherwise beyond a reasonable doubt."Well, as we all know, the organization has been hit real not only with the allegations of the past week, but also in the past. They have been do
As the Mitchell Report was released this week, the nation's reaction has ranged from apathy to downright anger. Right now, much has not been heard from the Baltimore Orioles or any of their players at all regarding the report itself despite the consistent cloud around the team for years. The more I read of it, the reputations of players, who may have not have done anything are ruined off some evidence are ruined forever and it is based on a lot of innuendo, hearsay and the words of two trainers, Jason Giambi and Frank Thomas. Many players had the chance to speak, but they didn't. That's the problem.Whether or not we like it, drugs are in very sport and there's no way to stop it. Honestly, will all the travel in sports, time zone changes, and everything else - do you really think guys are playing without help? The sad thing is that we try to stop drug use amongst teenagers and young adults, but seeing the money in sports and also the lack of punishment -- why would anyone not want to d
Sorry for the lack of posts today - I have been out and about today and I was up in Baltimore County earlier on WNST with James Baker of Oriole Magic on the Sports with Mark Suchy where we chatted about the Orioles and the Hot Stove. It was a good time, and even though we were on for more than an hour and time sure went by real fast.Anyhow, it is a few days after the Jay Gibbons steroid announcement and Oriole Nation more or less wants him gone from the organization. However, it will be easier said than done considering his contract and the time, plus money left on it. I think will he will remain with the team, but he will be role player unless he can hit his way into the every day lineup. As most fans know, Gibbons will be suspended for 15 games. The Baltimore Examiner has more on the situation.Despite Gibbons' carefully crafted apology, the Baltimore Sun's Rick Maese has poked a few holes into it and basically rendered it useless in article on Friday. He shows that Gibbons' lied abo
Well, not much is going on in the world of the Orioles; however, I expect with the winter meetings upon us, business will about to pick up. Right now, MacPhail has not done much; however, it looks like he's taking his time and seeing how the market is right now for both free agents and the trade market. The Orioles.com has more on MacPhail and the upcoming winter meetings as does Allen McCallum of Press Box Online. Both B and I have looked at particular deals and scenarios, so feel feel to delve through the blog for those.First and foremost, I reported yesterday that the Orioles might be interested in Jose Guillen. That report kind of surprised me considering the state of the team and their goals; however, according to Roch Kubatko, the organization is not interested in him. Like I said, a deal with Guillen, despite he being a fine player, would not make sense for Baltimore right now.As well, in Roch's piece & in also by Jeff Zrebeic, they both look at Melvin Mora and his situation

What a game! Wow. With a little less than two days officially left in the Orioles season, those who have given up on the team or have already flipped the calendar year to 2008 sure as hell missed an exciting ball game last. Despite the win-loss record, the Birds have not packed it in as of yet. The Orioles won last night in 10 innings, 10-9, thanks to some creativity by Melvin Mora. With the bases loaded, he dropped a bunt along the third base side to drive in the winning run. Since the Birds defeated the Yankees, New York lost the division the title to Boston – the first time in nine years that has not happened. New York came armed and ready to go, as Alex Rodriguez had four RBIs; however, it was not enough. The Orioles’ Jon Leicester got tagged hard as he gave up seven runs in about four innings of work, but Rob Bell pitched valiantly and kept the team in the game, and Chad Bradford earned the win. Jay Payton had a huge night with 3 RBIs, and led the rally in the
As we all well know, the last month and half has been nothing short of horrific as the Orioles have only 67 wins on the season; therefore, they have a good shot to finish worse than they did in 2006.They’ve only won 9 out of their last 34 games; thus, being in the final week of the season, everyone within the organization and fans are looking towards 2008.In the Baltimore Sun this morning, manager Dave Trembley said a few words that could change the course of the off-season. Unless you have been under a rock, the thin Oriole pitching has been exploited thanks to key injuries to the staff. Erik Bedard, Kris Benson, Jaret Wright, Adam Loewen, Chris Ray, Danys Baez, and most recently Jeremy Guthrie have spent time on the shelf. Now, the Oriole manager made this proclamation last night after the loss to the Blue Jays:“The roll call for next season includes starters Erik Bedard, Jeremy Guthrie and Adam Loewen. Trembley mentioned Burres in a group with relievers Jamie Walker and Chad Brad
What's new? In terms of the internet: a lot. Once again, the Orioles have run into a brick wall, and they are shut-out again, thank to the brilliant pitching of Kevin Millwood. He pitched seven scoreless innings as the Rangers beat Baltimore, 3-0.Since the Clay Buchholz no-hitter, the Orioles have been shut-out three times.Jon Leicester threw a complete game, as he eight innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. He pitched a quality start; however, the Oriole offense could not muster anything and stranding eight runners did them in.Nelson Cruz, Gerald Laird and Marlon Byrd each drove in runs for Texas. The Orioles return home tonight and face Kansas City at home.***The Baltimore Sun has a recap of the game, as does Oriole Magic, Baltimore Examiner, & Orioles MLB site...Roch Kubatko has his pick for the most disappointing Orioles, and boy, there are several. He picked Ramon Hernandez, and I would for the most part agree with him. I still think Danys Baez's pitching has been far more detrimental to the team than Ramon has.B
Nick Markakis had a ground-breaking night as he had 5 RBIS and the Orioles won last night by a score of 11-9 in the deep heart of Texas. In light of the Birds horrific season, Nick Markakis homered last night, for his 21st of the season and leads the team with 108 RBI’s. He’s been dubbed “the Natural” by some in Baltimore media, and he’s more than proved that this season. Baltimore spent the first half of the game down, but came back thanks to key hits from Markakis, as well Aubrey Huff, Brian Roberts and Freddie Bynum who all had 2 RBI’s each. Ian Kinsler had a huge game for Texas with his 20th homer and three RBIs, as well Hank Blalock also drove in 2 runs. Michael Young, Marlon Byrd, Nelson Cruz and David Murphy each drove in a run. Meanwhile, Radhames Liz, despite his electric stuff has struggled mightily in the majors during his short stay. He only lasted 2 2/3 innings as he gave up six earned runs, and the bullpen thereafter didn’t help the cause as R
Hey everyone, hope all is well today wherever you are. I just have been real busy with personal life and dealing with a situation, but all is well. The Orioles left the intimidating confines of the Bronx after being swept in three straight games; however, in the deep heat of Texas they were able to pull out a win in the late innings, 6-3.Ok, so the bullpen did make things real, real interesting late; alas, they were able to pull it out.The Rangers held a 1-0 lead until the ninth inning and then the Orioles scored off a Miguel Tejada single.Baltimore trashed Texas in the tenth inning thanks to Brad Wilkerson error, a Melvin Mora RBI, and a three run homer by Nick 'the Stick" Markakis. They scored five runs in the ninth inning and the bullpen gave up two runs off RBIs by Hank Blalock and Marlon Byrd, but Francisco Cabrera was able to close out the game. With a little more than a week remaining in the season, can the Orioles reach 70 wins? We've got a continuation of the series with the R
In late August, Mike Mussina was on the verge of perhaps losing his spot in the Yankee rotation and perhaps into early retirement. The rumors were greatly exaggerated. He pitched seven innings, struck out six and walked one, as Yankees just trashed the Orioles, 12-0, at Yankee Stadium.Once again, the rotation looked woeful, and after his strong start last week, Jon Leicester got lit up. He last only four innings and gave up six runs, all earned.Thereafter, the bullpen could not stop the bleeding. Rocky Cherry came in and pitched two innings, and gave up an earned run; however, Francisco Cabrera came in, pitched a third of inning & was torched for four runs.In the end, the Oriole offense was futile, and the Yankees came away with an easy win.The Evil Empire has won 11 out of 13, and are ONLY 2 ½ behind Boston.Give the Yankees credit, I never thought they would ever come back and surge like this…***The Baltimore Sun has a recap of the game, as does the Orioles MLB site, Orioles Han
Pitching, defense, timely hitting & making the key plays are essential to the success of any baseball team. For the past month, the Orioles have more or less become a national joke because of how bad the team has performed. For the most part, they have not executed one or more these key elements during a game recently. However, last night, Baltimore played good baseball, one based in fundamentals and doing the little things right. More importantly, they won last night. Instead a football score, or a score out of co-ed or beer league softball, the black and orange shutout the Angels, 3-0. Call-up Jon Leicester pitched 5 2/3 pitches where he kept the Angels at bay, and the bullpen came in and lifted the Orioles to victory. The funny thing is that the line-up sans Nick Markakis, Kevin Millar and Aubrey did not have any regulars in the lineup. There was no Miguel Tejada, or B-Rob, or Mora, or Ramon slotted to play. Some fans were upset from not seeing the regulars, and I was a little sh
I'm sure you've noticed the lack of posts around here lately. I've been kinda tied up with work (read: had to finally do some real, actual work instead of pretending). Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Well, I am in the Boston area right now (in Marblehead, Mass.) to catch our Baltimore Orioles take on the first place Red Sox. I am up here to catch tonight’s game since I was able to score some standing room tickets from redsox.com website three weeks ago. I took a flight up here that left Baltimore this morning, and landed around 11 this morning. I had to take a quick flight this morning (I wanted to leave Friday), as I covered the San Francisco Giants/Washington Nationals game for the DC Sports Box last night in Washington D.C. I’ll try to show you all pictures of Boston and scenes around Fenway Park. I suggest if you’ve never been to Boston, especially a Red Sox game at Fenway, you try it at least once in your life. Tickets are hard to find, but it is an experience unlike any other in baseball. *** Anyhow, it was a great win for the Orioles last night as they beat the Red Sox, 9-8!
Sorry for the lateness in posting today, I had a friend whom I went to high school sadly lose her life in car accident and I basically have been offline for the past day.***Well, with the Orioles it is the same sh*t, different day.On Sunday, the black and orange lost their sixth game in a row, as they got whooped by the Minnesota Twins, 11-3.With the win, The Twins swept the series against the Orioles, and won all seven games they played this season. What else is there to say? Bedard was very un-ace like as he gave up six earned runs and was off from the onset of the game. Although he settled down after giving four runs in the first two innings, his effort was futile as the Birds could not get anything started. He was supposed to be the stopper, the man who could come in, dominate and stop a losing streak.Sunday was not the day.Bedard did get the team record 219th K, but it meant nothing to the fans or the players, as they lost real badly. The bullpen once again made a game that was look
Well, I am still trying to get over the abusrdity of Wednesday, but the Orioles did play another game last night. The black and orange took on the Minnesota Twins and they lost 5-2 in the late innings of Thursday night's matchup. The Orioles were doing pretty well with Steve Trachsel on the mound, but in the eighth inning, the team unnraveled. They were up 1-0 in the inning, the O's coughed up 4 runs to the Twins in that frame.A huge error by Miguel Tejada open up the floodgates for Minnesota with the bases loaded, and things went to hell thereafter. The Orioles stumbled, bumbled and fumbled to yet another loss. It's become painful to watch the black and orange this week, but as a fan, I still have unconditional love for the team...***The Baltimore Sun has a recap of the game, as does the Baltimore Examiner, & Washington Post. There's more stuff from Wednesday's game and last night in Roch Kubatko's blog, Roch Around the Clock.Check out Bill Ordine's blog, O, By the Way. Erik Bedard is the man. He's described a shy, but a great teammate; however, he's seen as a bit anti-social and ornery in the local and national media.Despite it all, he can pitch.Having a close-up view of the action behind home, as I was four rows back, (I got complimentary tickets thanks to a good friend), I got to see the wizardry of Erik Bedard in a way I have never witnessed before. He helped the O's cruise to a 6-2 victory last night over the Rangers. On Tuesday night, in front of a crowd that could not have numbered more than seven thousand due to weather, Erik Bedard struck out 11 over seven innings to win his ninth straight decision. As well, he tied the team record last night with his 218th strikeout of the season, and walked none.Folks, if you have not seen him pitch, do so before the year is out.Miguel Tejada and Aubrey Huff hit home runs off the woeful Ranger pitching. As well, Sammy Sosa returned to Baltimore, and was he ever booed bad. *** The Baltimore Examiner,
If you don't live in either Los Angeles or the Eighties, you might not be accustomed to watching top-down car chases.Nonetheless, this is a simple and fun little game you might enjoy. Race through traffic in an attempt to run down enemies who have committed unspecified wrongs. Be careful though, because while you can bash your way past innocent bystanders, you can't do it forever. You need to take down the bad guys before you take yourself down.Source: Johnny TwoShoes & Game|Life Online Games Browser Games PC Racing
I had an entry last night on "Wild" Bill Hagy, who sadly left us on Tuesday on the blog, and I kept my words to a minimum much only met him once and knew him as a legend to Oriole fans through videotape as well as word of mouth.Well, after looking at the Baltimore Sun, especially the kind words about Mr. Hagy left on Roch Kubatko's blog by various readers, it is clearly evident to me more than ever the impact he left on the Oriole fanbase. He may have just been a "fan", but he was man who left an indelible mark on a community and so many are speaking of him proudly, with reverence and love.As I have learned, he was a link to the past of the Orioles, when being a fan was truly having a part in the game.Today, we need scoreboards to tell us when to cheer or when to feel passionate, but in his heyday Bill was the cheerleader and the fans fed off his passion. If we could all only go out the way "Wild" Bill has...The Orioles will probably show a video and give him a celebratory moment of sil
On Sunday, the Orioles played hard; however, they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2, in the bottom of the tenth inning thanks to a Aaron Hill sacrifice fly.The match-up yesterday had our own Jeremy Guthrie take on one of the best hurlers in the game, Roy Halladay.Guthrie pitched 8 strong innings, and only gave up two runs on three hits. He walked none while striking out 6; meanwhile, perennial Cy Young candidate Halladay went nine innings, also gave up two runs on six hits and struck out five.Brian Roberts and Kevin Millar drove in runs for the Birds. The Orioles could have possibly rallied in the tenth inning, but J.R. House, who came in as a pinch hitter singled, but got picked off of second base after he took to big a curve around first base.Chad Braford took the loss for the Orioles. We have a ten-game homestand where the Rangers, Twins and the Devil Rays come to the Yard.***The Baltimore Examiner, Washington Post, Orioles MLB site, & Orioles Hangout have a recap of last night's ga
The Baltimore Orioles no doubt have had a good week, and the signing of Matt Weiters was a sign that the team is serious about the future. It not only showed the fan base the team is committed to a goal, but also showed to the world that we are ready to move past this down decade. Despite the chatter online and on the radio, the team got the deal done, and I as a fan am glad. Although Weiters may or may not ever see time in an Oriole uniform, reading the various articles online from the major newspapers and scouting sites say he is the real deal. Considering the team’s tenuous history recently with draft picks, Wednesday served to be a day to remember. As well, with the team playing solid baseball as of late and winning 4 out of 6 games against both the Red Sox and Yankees, things do not look that bad. Looking back, Sam Perlozzo was a good guy and wanted to be here; however, a change had to be made and putting Dave Trembley in the managerial position has perhaps salvag
The New York Yankees are the hottest team in baseball and have an all-world batting lineup, but right now, the Baltimore Orioles seem to have a “never say die” mentality instilled in them, and yesterday afternoon they came back from the brink of destruction. With a 3-0 lead, the Oriole bullpen in the ninth inning all but erased Erik Bedard’s masterful start. Danyz Baez came in and was ineffective, but the Oriole nearly faced certain doom as the Yankees had tied the game on a three-run homer by Shelley Duncan off reliever Jamie Walker in the bottom of the ninth. Never fear O’s fans, as they’d come back much like they did in the first game of the Yankee series and last weekend against the Red Sox. The Orioles came back in their very next at bat as Miguel Tejada drove in Nick Markakis to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead, and then Aubrey Huff hit a two-run homer to finally defeat the Yankees. In the end, the O’s won 6-3 over the Yankees on Wednesday afternoon. We did
Like I have said time and time again, Daniel Cabrera probably has the best physical tools of any pitcher on the Oriole roster and could be an elite one if he could keep his head in the game.Last night, he did in one of the most intimidating places to play in baseball -- Yankee Stadium. The Orioles smashed the Yankees by a score of 12-0.Kevin Millar homered and reached base five times for the Orioles and Daniel Cabrera pitched two-hit ball into the seventh. In the third inning, Aubrey Huff hit a grand slam and Baltimore quickly put the game out of reach. The Orioles just plain abused Jeff Karstens last night, and took advantage of not having to face Roger Clemens in the series. Brian Roberts, Corey Patterson, Nick Markakis, Kevin Millar and Melvin Mora each drove in a run, while Jay Payton drove in two.Baltimore systematically shut down the Yankees on Tuesday night, and it is quite an accomplishment considering what New York has done within the last month. In light of the win by the Oriol
If there's one thing you can say about the Baltimore Orioles, it is that they fight and try to remain in every game. Although their record may not indicate how good they are, the orange and black are surely better than last year and not certainly not an easy team to defeat any more. The Orioles surged back to have the game tied in the 9th inning, 6-6, but the Yankees won lost night thanks to a run that scored off a fielder's choice. However, once again, the bullpen perhaps blew this game due to a hit bat batter (Cabrera) in the 9th, and Jeter's tapper to win the game. The Yankees won the first game in the series, 7-6.However, the Orioles did come back in the final frame and cause Mariano Rivera to blow a save. If there's any solace one could take out of the loss, it is the Orioles nearly took the hottest team in all of the land to the brink.Jeremy Guthrie was off again, and you have to wonder is he wilting, tiring or just not hitting his spots?Guthrie did not even pitch five innings,
Boston Red Sox va. Baltimore Orioles; August 12th, 2007What a win, what a win.The Orioles capped off an incredible weekend by taking two out of three from the Red Sox, and as well having two come from behind wins in the series.Kevin Millar hit a three-run game-winning homer for the Orange and Black to win 6-3. It was a great feeling shutting the Red Sox fans up and we walking out of the park with a dramatic win.I'll say this now, in light of the losing, this might be the best Baltimore team in a decade. Under Trembley, this team has a lot of fight in them and they'll battle until the very end.Let's give a special thanks to Greg Gagne, because without him, the story might be different. He imploded Friday and gave up a two run bomb to Miguel Tejada in the eighth inning to tie the score. So much for the big trading deadline acquisition, eh?With the Orioles full of confidence right now, they head to New York to face the red hot Yankees and then onto Toronto. If the O's can take 4 out of
Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been kind of busy this weekend and at both Red Sox games so far this series.Well, the O's won on Friday and lost on Saturday.I covered both games for Oriole Magic! Anyhow, Garrett Olson got shelled today; however, he settled down and got into the seventh inning until the bullpen came in and could not manage to keep things in check. In the end, the Orioles lost 6-2 on Saturday.I have photos for both Friday and Saturday's game (just click on the links).***Check out Roch Kubatko's blog, Roch Around the Clock for tidbits, news and more about today's game at the Yard. Last night was not a good one for the Black and Orange. It was hot, sticky, miserable and Jeremy Guthrie just could not get it going last night. He got hit, and hit hard - real hard. The O's lost 8-4 last night to the Mariners.Guthrie allowed six runs in four innings, and allowed a devastating two-run homer to Jose Guillen.Nick Markakis added two RBI for the Orioles, and Miguel Tejada along with Kevin Millar each drove an RBI as well. The two teams close out the season series tonight as Horacio Ramirez takes on Daniel Cabrera.***The Baltimore Sun has a recap of game as does the Baltimore Examiner, Orioles MLB site and Washington Post.Roch Kubatko of the Baltimore Sun has his thoughts of the game last night in his blog, Roch Around the Clock.***Tuesday was a historic night in baseball with Barry Bonds hitting number 756, and many around baseball, including the Orioles had their say about the occasion. I read some of what a few of the players had to say and I find it fairly consistent wit
Last night, I spent much of my energy trying to stop a developing cold, and kept my focus on the whole Barry Bonds home run chase, as I had to write an article on it.In light of the whole Bonds escapade, there was business conducted around Major League Baseball and the Orioles took on the Mariners last night. The Mariners, whom I did not think would be much good, have surprised everyone and are within striking distance of the wild card and potentially the AL West lead.Jeff Weaver, who has been struggling, came into Baltimore and defeated the Orioles soundly, by a score of 10-3.Steve Trachsel was decent, going a little more than 5 innings, and his start was different than his past few where he got lit up.The game was close until the last frames, and Jamie Walker nor the bullpen could not hold the fort for the Orioles.I feel like crap now; thus, I'll be brief today.Nick Markakis drove in a run for the Birds, and Ramon Hernandez drove in two.I'd love to try to make tonight's game to see
Erik Bedard is a on roll, and with his success as of late, he's no doubt a contender for the Cy Young Award this season. Although he'll never win the award for most talkative or for community service, he's doing something special this season for the Birds. If you get a moment, read the piece, "Here and Now", by Jeff Zrebiec in the Baltimore Sun today on Erik Bedard.Right now, if I were the Orioles, I'd be working on a way to lock him up now before his asking price becomes absolutely astronomical and other teams come into play.Bedard is currently leading the league in strikeouts, and has won eight straight. It mystifies me that he is not getting the national attention he deserves, and playing for the Baltimore Orioles (along with their decade of losing) is the reason. We have a gem here, it seems to be, and let's hope the Orioles do right by Bedard and most especially the fans.Bill Ordine in an excellent post on the O, by the Way blog on the Baltimore Sun website illustrates why Bedar
On Thursday, the Baltimore Orioles lost again to the Boston Red Sox, 7-4.The O’s returned to the scene of the now infamous Mother’s Day Massacre and the Sox took 2 of 3 from the black and orange. They played a well fought out game; however, the seventh inning was their undoing as the Red Sox tattooed a four spot thanks to an ineffective Rob Bell.O’s starter Jeremy Guthrie was a bit off, going five innings plus and giving up three runs.Rob Bell only pitched 2/3 of an inning, and gave up four runs, all earned. Both the red-hit Corey Patterson and Jay Payton drove two runs in each for the O’s.Baltimore heads to Tampa Bay where they have a three game set (and hopefully sweep).***The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Examiner, the Washington Post, Oriole Magic, and Orioles Hangout have a recap of the game.Sun bloggers, Roch Kubatko and Bill Ordine have their thoughts on the events of Thursday in Beantown.Congrats to Erik Bedard for being named the AL Pitcher of the Month!Jeff Zrebiec pens an a
On a sunny day in Cooperstown, New York on Sunday, our own Cal Ripken was formally inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Apparently, Cooperstown was a sea of black and orange and lest we not forget, Tony Gwynn was inducted too, another class act… Flanked by fifty plus living Hall of Famers, his family, and nearly seventy to a hundred thousand Orioles fans, Ripken spoke about in general about his time as an Oriole, his family, and his work with kids along with his business post-baseball life. The speech was fairly general, in my opinion; however, it was great to see him emotional and talk about the bedrock of life – family. After the Yankee-Oriole game, both Yankee and Oriole fans took out the time to view the Ripken induction on the video screen in centerfield. There’s a video of Cal Ripken’s Hall of Fame Induction on the Baltimore Sun website. The esteemed Tom Boswell of Washington Post has a great article on the Iron Man, Cal Ripken, and Dave Sh

If anyone in the beginning of the season picked Jeremy Guthrie to be an emerging pitcher on the Baltimore Orioles, I have a $100 bill I'd like to give you.Just kidding.Well, Jeremy Guthrie once again showed why he should deserve Rookie of the year consideration. In perhaps his best start to date, he threw seven shutout innings, allowed two hits and struck out six.The O's won 2-0 thanks the amazing effort by Guthrie, Chad Bradford holding things in check and Jamie Walker saving the game. The runs for the black and orange were driven in by Kevin Millar and Jay Payton.Although the O's are 14 1/2 out from first and all but out of contention, if we have to look back at one good thing from this year, it's Guthrie.***The Orioles MLB site, the Washington Post, Baltimore Examiner, and the Baltimore Sun have a recap of yesterday's game.Bill Ordine of the O, by the Way Blog gives his thoughts on the game last night; meanwhile, erstwhile Sun blogger, Roch Kubatko has news on Terry Tiffee...Chr
Last night the Orioles put up a valiant effort against the Oakland A's, but could not muster the win against one of the best pitchers in baseball, Dan Haren. In the end, the boys in orange and black would end losing to the A's by a score of 4-3 on the left coast on Saturday. Haren would show how solid he is as he struck seven in a little more than 6 innings of work. Alan Embree would earn the save, his tenth. Thanks to a former Oriole, Jack Cust (who put the nail in the coffin for Baltimore), Oakland just won it's second game in about two weeks.Corey Patterson once again continues his hot streak, as he went 2 for 5 with an RBI, and Kevin Millar doubled in 2 runs.Steve Trachsel went a little more than five innings, and yielded four runs in the loss. Before I go into the news and rundown, Stan Charles' wonderful site, "Press Box" are selling license plates via the the web to celebrate Cal Ripken being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I'm going probably purchase mine in a few days, and it's a cool idea if you want to expound on your love for Cal Ripken even further. Also, all proceed from the license plate sales go to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. The Baltimore Sun has more on the story...Meanwhile, Cal is waiting for the magical day to take place next weekend...Yesterday was an off day for the Orioles, and this weekend they play in Oakland.First off, Garrett Olson was sent back down to the minors to make room for Steve Trachsel. To be honest, I thought Olson did a decent job while he was up, but could have used a bit more seasoning. I figured he might be used in the bullpen, but it would be best if he worked on a consistent basis in the minors to not only improve, but work on fine tuning his repertoire. As well, pitcher Jon Lei
Daniel Cabrera started on three days' rest for Baltimore in place of Erik Bedard, who was scratched with a stiff neck. The O’s lost 6-5. He pitched five innings, giving up eight hits and five runs. Granted, he started on three days rest, but his command and inconsistency continued. Which Daniel Cabrera will we see from game to game? The bullpen for the umpteenth time, the bullpen lost another game as Chad Bradford gave up the winning run by walking Adrian Beltre in the 8th inning. Corey Patterson has been hot as late, as he had 3 hits and a run driven in, plus Jay Payton had a solo home run. Nick Markakis, Chris Gomez and Jon Knott drove in runs for the Orioles. Well, it was good weekend for O's fans as the team took 3 of 4 from the struggling White Sox, and saw a glimpse of perhaps the future of the Orioles as Garrett Olson won his first major league in a solid start on Sunday. The O's won last night 5-3 for their third straight win, and I covered the game for Oriole Magic! yesterdayPictures, etc. will be coming in a bit.The O's start a series in Seattle tonight into Wednesday.***First of all, the team held a "State of the Orioles" meeting yesterday at the stadium for season ticket holders. Dave Steele of the Baltimore Sun has an article on the event yesterday morning and all in all, manager Dave Trembley and Andy MacPhail came off very good to the fans yesterday and handled themselves with confidence.Second of all, I’ll give the front office and the organization credit; as much criticizing, moaning, griping and complaining we do with the Orioles, they at least took the initiative to hear fans out. Furthermore, MacPhail and Dave Trembley
Chicago White Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles - July 13, 2007Well, I was the game last night and here are some shots! Anyhow, the Orioles won 2-0, thanks to the masterful pitching of Erik Bedard and homers from Corey Patterson and Nick Markakis. The Orioles should consider themselves fortunate that they won against the ever tough and efficient Mark Buehrle.Bedard struck out 8, Paul Shuey held the game, and Chris Ray saved it; however, Ray did make things real interested via two walks, but was able to get out a jam.The two teams take on each other again tonight and Sunday.Well, after half the damn season (remember, I am a 6′5″ African-American guy and not that hard to miss), the friendly usher named Luther (who has seen me probably every game I have attended this year, as I sit the same seat perhaps 2-3 innings per game) in section 20 took the time to throw me of the section. He knows who I am an he never gave me trouble, but he decided to spoil the experience. I’ll manage, but that was
Last night, the Orioles lost to the Chicago White Sox, 9-7.Jeremy Guthrie was off, and the White Sox scored 4 runs in the first inning. As well, they took advantage of a woeful Jay Gibbons in left field. My Sunday partners Tony and Pug are going to celebrate when I say this, but anyone besides Jay Gibbons should be in left field, including Brandon Fahey.I caught some of the game when I got home and it was pitiful to Gibbons out there.Guthrie allowed six runs, five earned, and nine hits in over three innings of work, by far his shortest outing of the season. He's been nothing short of awesome, and hopefully what happened last night was just a bad start as he had not given up any more than for runs in any of his starts. The Orioles nearly came back, scoring five runs in the ninth, but alas, it was not enough.***The Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, and Baltimore Examiner have reports from last night's game...Rick Maese of the Sun believes that Dave Trembley has at least earned the opportun

The last few years have been nothing but lackluster for the Orioles, but last night, ace Erik Bedard threw one of the best games by any pitcher this year. No disrespect to Daniel Cabrera, but I think what Bedard did last night was even masterful than his one hitter against the Yankees. In deep heart of sweltering Texas, Erik Bedard struck out 15 and gave up 2 hits as the Orioles beat the Rangers 3-0 on Saturday. Criticized by most in the media for being standoffish, not going deep into game and at times “just packing it in”, he seemingly took his game to a new level as he stymied the Rangers and was just plain nasty. He was so good last night, he struck out the side in the ninth inning. I didn’t see the game live, but I caught a replay online and he looked like I guy I had never seen before – and keep in mind, he leads the league in strikeouts. Things went so well last night that the struggling Jay Gibbons homered, and had three hits. The Wit and Prose
The Orioles bad season continues as they dropped the first game of the series of the three-game set to Texas, 4-3 in ten innings. Jeremy Guthrie pitched another strong game, and the Orioles mounted a comeback, but lost the game in the tenth as reliever Paul Shuey served up an RBI single to Michael Young for the walk-off win for the Rangers.Nick Markakis had 3 hits, & drove in 2 runs. The O's won last night in Chicago by a score of 7-6, after mounting a dramatic comeback and taking advantage of a tough Bobby Jenks who was having an off night. The Orioles came back from a four run deficit to secure the win.Chris Ray even looked great, striking out the side in the ninth inning after being beleaguered in his past few appearances. He earned his 14th save. Erik Bedard had so-so outing as he only went a little more than five innings and was tagged for six runs; however, the bullpen picked him up and Rob Bell got the win. Corey Patterson came through with four hits, and Millar came through in the clutch delivering an RBI single to win the game for the Birds. Although the Orioles are nine games under .500 at 36-45, I feel a lot better about the team than I have in the past few weeks. At this point, give Trembley a shot to manage until the end of the season. It looks like the players are responding to him and there now seems to be fight in the team – which was mis
In light of Brian Roberts being chosen an All-Star for the second time and Jeremy Guthrie on the mound, the O's could not muster a win against the Angels in the rubber match in the three game set. Thanks to the rifle arm of Vlad Guerrero, the Angels were able to win the game yesterday as Melvin Mora was gunned down at home despite a valiant effort to score. The Black and Orange lost 4-3.The collision was rough, as Mora hurt his foot and catcher Mike Napoli had to be carried off the field. The Orioles were helped out big time by Jay Payton's 2-run homer and heads up baserunning by Ramon Hernandez.Jeremy Guthrie only gave up four hits, but gave up a 2-run homer to Casey Kotchman and an RBI double to Vlad Guerrero in the 4th inning, and a homer in the 8th to Mike Napoli.Guthrie was strong, but Lackey was slightly better and the Angels made most of their opportunities. The O's take on the White Sox in the Windy City tonight. It'll be Erik Bedard squaring off against Mark Buerhle in what sh
Last night the Orioles didn’t win nor lose, neither did the Yankees. Rather, a downpour and a fierce early summer storm last night resulted in the Orioles/Yankees game being postponed until July 27th, when the game will be continued! Honestly, I would have liked to go to the Yard last night, but I had been to two Yankee games this week, and I didn’t want to get caught up in the elements last night. I’m puzzled why this game was not stopped earlier from watching it via MASN, but I guess the umpires had their reasons. The game got called in the top of the eighth inning as the Yankees sneaked ahead of the Orioles by a score of 8-6, as Derek Jeter drove in 2 runs thanks to a bases loaded single. In the drama, Melvin Mora got ejected for arguing the merits of Thursday’s game (basically, why the two teams were playing in a downpour.) The bullpen, in a recurring theme, coughed up a 6-4 lead in the eighth inning. Anyhow, Daniel Cabrera last night showed why he is one
Last night, the O's defeated the Yankees 4-0, thanks to a masterful performance by Erik Bedard and the power of Aubrey Huff. On an ungodly humid night where the vast majority of fans rooted for the Yankees, O's fans are delighted to have beaten the Bronx Bombers for the 4th time in five opportunities this season. The O's scored in the sixth inning as they teed off of Roger Clemens. Ramon Hernandez drove in a run to start the fun, and then Aubrey Huff (finally!) hit a three run homerun for the exclamation point on Wednesday night.Roger got denied his 350th win, and while he got by on location, grit and determination for the first five innings, he looked like a middle-aged man when it came to the sixth inning.Yet again, Roger was denied win number 350...Erik Bedard looked great at his struck out and had a two hitter going into the eighth inning until he was yanked.Tonight, it is Chien-Ming Wang versus Daniel Cabrera.Seeing games in Yankee Stadium since the mid-1990's (I spent a lot of
It should be pretty unanaminous now that Jeremy Guthrie is ever so deserving of a spot on the All-Star team.In steamy and sweatbox like conditions at the Yard last night, the O's beat the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th by a score of 3-2.The Yankee bullpen (which I think has been the team's undoing and very weak) coughed the game up in the final frame as Scott Proctor loaded the bases and walked Ramon Hernandez in for the winning run.If you saw the game, it looked like Proctor beaned Hernandez at the end, but umpire Rob Drake (who must have been paid by Steinbrenner, was sleeping, or *honestly* just missed the call) thought differently, but Ramon earned the walk anyway to win the game.In a strong start, Andy Pettitte gave two runs and eight hits in seven innings; meanwhile, Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, and looked magnificent in the first five innings, but got hit a bit in the sixth and seventh innings, as Johnny Damon homered off him.The O's scor
The Baltimore Orioles take on the New Yankees, or the Evil Empire, or Spankees, Bronx Bombers, or M****r F******g Yankees, or whatever you want call them. Alas, the boys from New York are in a vastly unfamiliar position, as their record is at 36-37.They got swept by Barry Bonds and the Giants out west, and they are seemingly a world away from the Red Sox right now.The series should be interesting, nevertheless, as it is always a show when Jeter, A-Rod, and the big name talent of the Yankees come to town.I would consider this series important to the Orioles as well as it could lengthen Trembley’s tenure as the manager of the team, or perhaps usher in his replacement sooner rather than later. Furthermore, this series along with the one with the Angels (this weekend) could cement the Orioles a team floundering or one that may be done for the season.Jeremy Guthrie pitches tonight against Andy Pettitte, so that will be an interesting contest to take in.Matt Palmer has an open letter to Ya
Well, last night the Orioles lost in the desert to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 8-3.Steve Trachsel, who had been the steadiest of the pitchers until recently, got lit up again as he allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings. He walked four and struck out three, but nearly half the runners he faced got on base. For the Diamondbacks, Stephen Drew and Chad Tracy homered to start off the game and Eric Byrnes drove in two runs as the Snakes took the series from the Birds.Jay Payton drove in a run for the Orioles; however, Brian Roberts homered (second of the series) and had four hits for the team on the Sunday, as his play this season should merit him some All-Star consideration. Melvin Mora also added his 11th homer. The O's were 3-3 on this road trip, and the Yankees come to town for three games, and then the Angels thereafter.*** The Baltimore Sun has a recap of Sunday's game as does the Orioles MLB site. Roch Kubatko is his blog on the Baltimore Sun website notes the Or
The Baltimore Orioles won easily last night in Arizona 7-1; however, Miguel Tejada is officially on the DL for the first time in his career, and the team may be very well power-deprived without him.It just shows you how much luck and good fortune you'll need in your career to even come close to breaking Cal's record. Playing in every game for seven years is amazing, but it's even hard to fathom what Ripken did, and thus, "the Streak" even deserves more respect. It didn't matter too much that Tejada was out, as the O's got a lot of help from a shaky Diamondback defense, and a commanding outing by Daniel Cabrera, who on this night showed while he can be real frustrating, he can also be downright brilliant and effective.Brian Roberts helped the cause with a home run, and sparked a rally that would lead the O's to victory.Meanwhile, Ramon Hernandez came off the DL, and batted fourth for the Birds. As well, Jon Knott (whom many have wanted up) is now on the roster, and will be probably
