A Beginners Guide to Gin Rummy
By: victory Gin rummy, or Gin for short, is traditionally a two player game, but it can be adapted for 3 or 4 players. It's game play is turned based, and uses a point system. A game is won by a series of rounds, usually to the total value of 100, but this figure can be negotiated to suit the players.Gin rummy is a derivative of strains of poker and traditional rummy, and uses similar grouping structures called 'melds'. One pack of 52 cards is used, and does not include the use of jokers or wildcards. Aces only count as low cards (Ace, two three...) and not as an afterthought of the King, as with many card games like Blackjack and Poker.Dealing and Playing Gin RummyAs with most card games a dealer is selected, and either alternates between rounds or on a winner deals/loser deals basis. Each player is dealt ten cards, starting from the non-dealing player and alternating between the two. After each player has their ten cards, the dealer places the top card of the remaining deck, or sto

      Run, Rummy. Run.
There is a report out about Rumsfeld running from charges of war crimes. Apparently a visit to France was cut a wee bit short by some legal glitches involving torture. Former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld fled France today fearing arrest over charges of “ordering and authorizing” torture of detainees at both the American-run Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and the US military’s detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, unconfirmed reports coming from Paris suggest. US embassy officials whisked Rumsfeld away yesterday from a breakfast meeting in Paris organized by the Foreign Policy magazine after human rights groups filed a criminal complaint against the man who spearheaded President George W. Bush’s “war on terror” for six years. Under international law, authorities in France are obliged to open an investigation when a complaint is made while the alleged torturer is on French soil. …. Rummy
Thanks to Earl bringing it up in the forum I have recently learnt how to play Rummy (more specifically Gin Rummy at the moment) and am enjoying the change of pace and stress from poker.Earl found a site and posted it on the 5th Street Forum and I went over and had a look and after reading the rules I gave it a go on some play money tables and so far am in profit. I am not certain I want to go down the route of playing for money yet as I think it may then lose some of the fun so am just going to play it for the game itself.I only learnt how to play two days ago so the rules are still settling in and the tactics are yet to come. From what I have seen it looks like a game of keen observation and a dash of luck. But it is fun learning a new game and eventually I will move on to the traditional runny and kaluki (?) versions.I just got back from the soon to be in-laws for dinner and I got out a pack of cards and taught them how to play and we had a good time messing around with the game. A c

      Was Rummy a sacrificial lamb?
The conventional wisdom from the administration critics was that the military was fighting a war using tactics forced on the military by Donald Rumsfeld. It was argued that the war was being waged on the cheap and that Rumsfeld had put his own interest of remaking the armed forces above the interests of winning the war. There wasn't enough boots on the ground, they relied too much on special forces, the concept of a sleeker more mobile army was wrong, they didn't supply enough heavy artillery, etc... etc... One would expect that now with the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld there would be some serious changes moving forward in Iraq. One would imagine that the commanders in the field would move things into the direction that they themselves have always wanted to go. Only trouble is that the commanders in the field for the most part are not advocating much change at all much less the drastic change that some might expect. If I didn't know any better, I might believe that it the milit

      RUMMY? YER OUTTTTTTTAAA THERE!
Ah, the first bloodletting from the Bush White House comes in the form of a less-than-contrite Donald Rumsfeld getting his walking papers today. Unfortunately, as some in the GOP have said, this should have happened a week ago. Here's the statement released today by Senator Blanche Lincoln. She'll appear on our LiveLine 'til 9 segment in the morning to talk about the election results, and about belonging to the majority party in the Senate... Washington - U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) released the following statement upon the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld: "The civilian mismanagement at the Pentagon in regards to the war in Iraq has cost us dearly in the lives of brave men and women as well as influence around the world. President Bush has finally heeded the advice of several respected generals and heard the voice of the American people that we need a new direction in Iraq and the global war on terror. The nomination of Robert Gates gives the Unit

As Goes Iraq, So Too Shall Rummy
I’ve been saying this for a long while, but the W, Rove and Co is going to need a high level scapegoat for all things wrong with Iraq and Rummy is going to be it. It’s just a matter of time before they cut their losses there. Any one taking bets as to how much longer Rummy is allowed to serve with the “full confidence of the president?” Whatever this election accomplished, it did nothing to end the rancor and distrust that define current American politics. Yet, as the campaign went on (and on) there was one issue on which people from both parties appeared to be finding common ground: Donald Rumsfeld has to go.
